Zambia national soccer team this afternoon beat Ghana’s Black Stars 1-0 at a world cup qualifier match played at the brand new Levy Mwanawasa stadium in Ndola. Captain Chris Katongo’s first half goal was enough to secure all three points for Zambia and level the points with the leading teams in the group. Ghana still tops the group on superior goal difference.

The other two teams in the group. Sudan and Lesotho, play on Sunday in Maseru Lesotho. Sudanese coach is targeting a win in Lesotho to collect 6 points from the two games after beating Zambia in Khartoum last weekend.

“We have an important match in Lesotho and want six points from our opening two matches,” Sudan coach Mazda told BBC Sport. “We are fighting for World Cup qualification now but have to win all our games at home and fight outside.”

  1. Chipolopolo Iwe, it’s on again. Now have more friendlies with teams like Egypt, Cameroon and south Africa to with stand different tactics.

  2. Ghanaian player kwarasey punched a Zambian policemen. He was restrained from punching a second one. Wanna go on a demonstration against corruption in Ukwa’s gov’t? Get the Ghanaian players….katanganese charity will be no match!

  3. CONGRATULATIONS BOYS. DON’T KUBEBA IS STILL WORKING.BOTH CHIPOLOPOLO AND SATA ARE PUTTING ZAMBIA ON THE WORLD MAP.

  4. @ Napapa sana!

Sure hope some of these Nigerian prophet would do that from their own people to stop thieving in some instances. Nigerians don’t get mad at me some of your characters are shady. Most are good but others leave much to be desired.

  5. I could not sleep last night, being a proud African and highly supersticous I had to go back to my Sangoma (Nkosikazi Nomzamo Madikizela) to inquire and acquire information on Zambia’s fate in today’s game.Dr.Nkosikazi Nomzamo Madikizela categorically indicated there is no way Ghana can beat Zambia-that it’s like trying to get blood out of a stone! Facts are stubborn things guys!

  6. Congrats! Now the real work begins. We need to win all the remaining matches and the toughest one will be the return match against Ghana in their own backyard. Adequate preps with formidable teams are of the essence.

  7. Where are those who were saying winning the AFCON was a fluke?? Have faith in yourselves Zambians lol. Prophets of doom.

  8. @ mwanawakwitu, really, you must live with them to know a bit about them. I am living with them, I know a bit about them. Their principle is: life is a struggle, a fight! So even where things are easy to get, they want to struggle and fight. Anyway!!

  9. I heard a lot of horn blowing by Ghanaians. They were predicting 6-0 others 4-0 and all sorts of things. I wonder what they are saying now. Well done boys.

  10. Thanks to the entire Zambian team, group D is open again.I always told people tha in Zambia we dont count the #of proffessionals u have.In Kumasi will catch them again with swift counter-move and i pray Jacob Mulenga plays.Ba FAZ ceaser is waiting, do likewise.

  11. Good. Abaice belayangasha Chipolopolo. We are champs. Actually we could have scored 3.

  12. Congrats and now let the fight begin! Good job and stay focussed and you FAZ pay the trainer his dues! We do not want our trainer to be demotivated.

  13. Congratulations gallant Zambia National team for the vital win over Ghana.Ministry of Sport MUST do whatever it takes to support our team,in terms of logistics.Make sure the coach and players are paid their dues. Its not time to debate whether its FAZ`s responsibility to fund the national team or not.If we can have money to set up frivolous commission of inquiries, then surely we can spare some funds for our national team.We need to show our appreciation not only in word but in deed.Football brings the nation together and we hope nothing will stop us from making our maiden appearance at the world cup.VIVA ZAMBIA VIVA CHIPOLOPOLO.

  14. FAZ please pay the coach, trainer and players in full. no more excuses. And please Chipolopolo avoid missing the way you did today. Three clears goals went to waste. You will remember them when it comes to go deference counts.

  15. That’s what I am talking about, Ba Zambia Nalelo Ba Wina Chipolopolo!!! We got to win all the remaining games and we are in … the rest will be history. At this level, there are should be no margins for error but I am not that much worried because I know that our team is highly professional, equal to the task and capable of these undertakings. Enjoy your weekend, Chipolopolo Boys, you just made my weekend more pleasant … thanks a trillion. You are the best!!!

    • When we tell them, they  play it against us. You know Brave, lets keep communicating young brother. Nobody wins with God the father. I will continue to pray first for the gift of love. Thanx Brave for the wisdom you continue sharing have. “This twowake is beginning to warbe me the wong way.” God bless yer all.

  16. Renard, you are working for s country that abrogates contracts unilaterally. Start pushing for your money now or you will lose everything!

  17. Soccer funs. Kindly let us move more carefully and peacefully back to our homes. Already there is a reported road traffic accident claiming 5 lives. We are a peaceful christian nation not to prove this Satanist TB Joshua right.

  18. those two teams can beat england. That was fantastic and quality football by both teams not that amateurish, boring english premier league most brain washed zedians idolise.

  19. Meant to say “… there should be no margins for error but I am not that much worried because I know that our team is highly professional, equal to the task and capable of these undertakings.”

    Insasa pantu twawina … solini!!

  20. As I read some of the comments off another website from our Ghanaian counterparts; it was rather ridiculous to read some of the posts. The reality is that the best team won the match. Why does it have to be bad officiating by the referee whenever a side loses? No matter what, there will always be an excuse for a loss. Champions will come and go, but for now, it’s Zambia’s turn! We are right behind you here in Canada. Keep up the great work and remember, being humble always produces positive results.

  21. Bravoooo!! Congrats the bullets…u shot the unshinny stars once, and doing it again was obvious!! but ba LT, please show us some current photoz of the boys and supporters!!

  22. Is it still a fluke beating the same team twice consecutively? Now, please tell me who are the real underdogs? Chipolopolo are real AFCON champions. It feels great beating Ghana again after all that psychological pressure they put on Zambia with their so called big names. Ba Zambia, iyeee,  chipolopolo, iyeee, chipolopolo. Congats!

  23. Zambia let us NOT lose focus and think we have qualified. we bungled the 1st game Against Sudan where we un-believably lost 2 – 0. let us work hard and towards winning all the remaining Games Now. We should prove to all doubting Thomases OUT there that we are the true African Champs.

  24. Good evening, its good to be back in business, Thanks FAZ President, the rest of the teams players and the all team. Secondly many thanks to Zesco Limited CEO & Zesco United F C for working with FAZ in the selling tickets i can only say job well done, its not an easy job. Zesco you did ensure that tickets are sold in your centres.

  25. Nxt time i  ll use my phone to film the match and post on youtube. Not the images i saw as if captured in 1975

  26. Why thank kalusha for work well done by the team and the business side of faz, and zesco united front office.

    • Why thank FAZ, Zesco Limted & Zufc for selling tickets in central places and supporters bought tickets in numbers to fill the stadium.
Thanks once for co-ordinating the same

  27. @ no# 22 Napapa sana yes I agree with you, Nigerians are very hard working in the right situations. They will even give you great advice and always feed you. Unlike how some of our own people will treat you like garbage because of jealousy. Great our boys won, but I hope most Zambians could get of the premier leagues complex and place more emphasis on family and work. Football is just an entertainment side dish.

  28. Mwanawakwitu, thats how the world operates unfortunately: people do a donkeys job but they thank the BOSS, who in this case happens to be GREAT Kalu, for what he has not done, but just for creating the good working atmosphere imagine, on top of that our entire great coach Herve Renard also adores Kalu as GREAT… I also used to dislike the boy Kalu just as much as you hate him but I realized it does not help to hate a good innocent man after all he has done a lot for the sport universally so i learnt to like this personality the way I enjoyed watching him scoring goals, because he is simply GREAT…….

  29. @ Haambokoma no# 44 I don’t hate Kalu. I really like Kalu’s football legacy; but FAZ shall never get the right administrator as long as people Idol worship.

  30. Congrats to the boys and the coach HR and his back room staff…you don’t really need to camp in RSA to win a match…let’s open our eyes to this daylight robbers!!

  31. Congrats to the boys and the coach HR and his back room staff…you don’t really need to camp in RSA to win a match…let’s open our eyes to these daylight robbers!!

  32. To everyone who s happy with the outcome of the game you have a duty to ensure that the money Chipolopolo won in the African Champions is paid to them fairly, secondly you also have a duty to ensure that the coach is paid, lastly you have a duty  to find out why the transport logistics were delayed for the sudan trip and who ever was responsible needs to be held accountable and to explain to Zambians .

  33. A  reputable professional private events management company needs to take over in handling all the logistics and human resource managements for Chipolopolo for goodness sake they are African champions and Zambians expect excellent events management  and Human Resource Management over the team, God bless the Chipolopolo team, coach and every morally, ethical and upright Zambian.

  34. Mwanawakwitu, your suggestion of friendlies is ok. But no friendlies with small teams like South Africa which can not even interpret soccer rules.
IYE CHIPOLOPOLO. IYE CHIPOLOPOLO. IYE CHIPOLOPOLO. IYE CHIPOLOPOLO. IYE CHIPOLOPOLO. IYE CHIPOLOPOLO. IYE CHIPOLOPOLO. IYE CHIPOLOPOLO. IYE CHIPOLOPOLO. IYE CHIPOLOPOLO. IYE CHIPOLOPOLO. IYE CHIPOLOPOLO. IYE CHIPOLOPOLO.

  35. Job well done Copper Bullets. I was in the stadium and can confirm that chipolopolo controlled the proceedings compared to the last time we played Ghana at the AFCON.

  36. Eyaaa!!! Well, done ba Zambia! We needed to win this game in order to restore confidence after the defeat by Sudan. Now let’s focus on the mission to get to Brazil.
Can we do it? Yes, we can do it! We shall do it!

  39. Jinggles 4 both CHIPOLOPOLO N GHANA as SUDAN r held to a scoreless affair in Maseru.Wow i think this is gud 4 ZAMBIA as Sudan wil fight to their last man against Ghana ,but then we should treat our remaining matches like World Cup finals.Viva ZAMBIIIIIIIE…

  40. I was in the stadium, That standard dispalyed by Chipolopolo can only be seen outside Afirca. That was clasic. Reo de Jenerio here we come. I want FAZ to invite whoever will win Euro this yaer or Brazil on their world tour for a friendly match a Mwanawasa Staduim in Ndola……Please please… lets make history.

  41. casthemuko

Are you really serious this FAZ can do that, they can’t even manage to go to those places for a friendly…

  42. The case still remains hard for us! We need to win all remaining games if we are to have any chance of getting the top slot.

  43. it’s like these zambians have kept goading in the fluke win over ghana. your security agencies and whatever behaved so unprofessionally that our team officials were assaulted and even made to sit among spectators. when u these zulus and bantu bushmen come to our country, we serve u well with all best facilities available all in the name of ghana’s friendliness. but see what a supposed christian nation like zambia has done against us. left to me alone on your return match u must be sent to kaladan park in tamale, 400 kms north of kumasi our slaughter home for u to taste the bitterness of “do-me-i-do-you”. i blame our authorities for always relying on “fama nyame” – give it to God.this nonsense must stop. anyway u are never going to have your way back in kumasi

  44. THESE ZAMBIANS MUST FORGET ABOUT THE WORLD CUP. U MAY SEE RIO DE JANEIRO – RIVER OF JANUARY, BUT YOUR LEGS MAY NEVER STEP THERE JUST LIKE THE BIBLICAL MOSES COULD SEE CANAAN BUT HIS LEGS WOULD NEVER STEP THERE. AMEN!

  45. I have learn a few just right stuff here. Definitely price bookmarking for revisiting. I wonder how much effort you place to create this type of fantastic informative site.
