Energy minister has reiterated that the fuel shortage in the country had nothing to do with the recent donation of fuel to neighboring Malawi.
Recently the Zambian government donated five million liters of fuel estimated at 5 million united states to Malawi to help with the help facilitate the funeral arrangements for its late president Bingu Wa Mutharika.
Energy minister Christopher Yaluma says it is unfortunate that politicians have continued to attribute the recent shortage of fuel in the country to the donation made to Malawi.
Speaking to QFM, Mr. Yaluma says people should understand and believe that the shortage was due to a leak in the pipes stating that the problem has since been rectified.

Just the idea that one man from his slumber can wake up and make a donation of such magnitude and cost at tax payers expense is unbelievable. Only in Africa.
You give two bags of mealie meal to your next door and the following day you have nothing; what will your children think of you?
Apparently they are supposed to think there was a leakage (or is a whirlwind) somewhere in your storeroom that caused the mealie meal in your house to vanish!!!
The point is … Had you not given away for free 5 million lit of fuel , Zambia wild have used that fuel . And mybe this leak you talking about would have gone by unnoticed , because theid stil be fuel in Zambia .. Some what .

I can imagine what other counties including Malawi are thinking of us, just after giving them a lot of fuel a decision made by one man without consulting the technocrats. May be HH could be right the gvt has no plan? You do not give your transport money away then you chose to walk from Lusaka to Kitwe while you say goodbye at Inter-city to the person you just helped.
Hon Minister, try to use numbers to explain. Most of us Zambians are so dull and daft that we do not see anything beyond our noses. Please explain to us the daily, weekly and monthly consumption of fuel in the country. Its also very important to put press releases if you are to stop mongrels who are barking at everythin that happens in the country.
Bwana Minister, prove that the donation is not a factor by giving more analysis than you are currently giving. Show to the Zambians how the situation would have remained the same without the hole created by the donation, not just ranting as you are doing. Indicate why the Zambians, especially politicians would still be crying shortage even if the fuel was in the country.
If you donate a week’s consuption, will it affect you that much. Grow up you cowards who do not have anything to criticise about. Its not the first time in Zambia that we are having fuel shortages. Infact it happens all over the world. Even oil producing countries do have fuel shortages what more of a land locked country with no fuel reserves and an old oil pipeline and very old and rickety refinery that cannot even process crude oil but only distills a cocktail of fuels mixed together.
Maybe it won’t affect you much, but at least if you didn’t donate it you’d still have fuel for another week while figuring out what to do the following week! Just trying to grow up!!!
‘The ‘leaks in the pipes’ should have been really severe to even cause a fuel shortage.
Or is the statement simply a ‘leak of information’ from the ministers mouth?

You critics of the fuel donation to malawi are simply amazing. You mean helping a neighbour and close friend like malawi with one week of fuel, was bad. Now you want our friends in malawi to think we have no heart at all. Help is just that ‘HELP.’ If your neighbour has no mealie meal and you give him some but ran out of the little you had remained with, how can you blame yourself for helping your neighbour. You guys are simply amazing. Rightly so I had to give all my transport money from Lusaka to kitwe to an old woman who had her bag stolen, and spent 2 days inter inter city before money could be sent to me. For a human being, it’ should be normal and just plain humane to help another person even if it means sacrificing a bit especially when the person in need, is in more dire stress.
I agree with the Minister! So the problem has to with PF lack of planning and inefficiencies!!!!!!!!!!!!
The fuel donated was from the previous regimes’ plans which had reserves and consistent supply! Now that the MMD fuel is exhausted, PF has no plans and is only thinking of how their party will participate in bidding for contracts as stated by their party CEO! (such contracts will most likely not be honoured! Prove that you are better, otherwise what is on the ground shows that you are far below the performance of your predecessors!
