Zambia entered camp on Monday to begin their brief training camp ahead of Friday’s away friendly against Malawi.
The team was taken through its paces on Monday by the likable Zambia assistant coach Patrice Beaumelle in the absence of his boss and compatriot Herve Renard.
Renard is only expected to join the team on Tuesday evening from his brief break in France.
The team heading to Malawi comprises mostly of home-based players with defender Aaron Katebe from Hwange in Zimbabwe expected to be the high profile foreign-based player in the 26-man team.
Mostly of the call-ups are expected to be part of Zambia’s 2014 CAF African Nations championship qualifiers that kickoff in November.
“It’s a good opportunity for us and for them together,” Beaumelle said.
“It’s good for them to play the international match as it will give us the opportunity to see their personality, how they handle the big stage.”
The Frenchmen will trim the team from 26 to 18 on Wednesday ahead of departure for Blantyre on the same date ahead of Friday’s central African derby against hosts Malawi.
I’m lost for words with these guys!!
Malawi Coach Kinnah Phiri says he is not aware of this fridays friendly game, the FAM football association of malawi has not yet in formed him hence he has not yet assembled a team. This is confusing , and please let HR not blast FAZ again for your mistakes, since if he travels to Malawi and No match takes place or the malawians just organise a club, ehh nishi twasebana . Malawians are not aware about this friendly, their is no news about it in their paper http://www.nyasatimes.com
Please give us the names of the players who have been called up. We must not underrate Malawi. We are the team to beat so must always field a strong side. Young players like Mayuka and Chisamba should called up for such assignments.
Hey my friend Roan Oye, the logic of this match is, they are preparing for the qualifiers of the Africa cup for the locally based players not for the likes of Mayuka, chisamba Lungu and Katongo bros.
@ akulu mphuno,am in Blantyre and Kinnah has already gathered a team, whch has already startd training.i watched their training yestdy,it looks they gona field in a vry strong team.
