Nkana Show Makwaza Red Card

Share

Linos Makwaza has been fired as Nkana coach.

This follows a spate of poor results this season that has seen Nkana go 13 games without a win in which they have collected nine draws and four losses.

The final nail in the coffin came on Saturday when Nkana were beaten 3-1 away to Red Arrows at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka.

“In view of the team’s persistent poor performance, the Executive has decided to make certain changes in order to try to improve on the team’s performance,” Makwaza’s dismissal letter, signed by Nkana chairman John Chiwele, stated.

“As part of these measures, we regret to inform you that your services will no longer be required.”

“We accordingly give you one month’s notice of termination – all your obligations to the club and vice versa shall cease with effect from 23 July 2012.”

“We thank you for your services to the Club and hope you will continue to support our endeavors.”

Makwaza, who joined Nkana in July 2010, leaves the record 11-time champions fourth from bottom in 12th place on 16 points from 17 games.

However, despite a poor season, Makwaza enjoyed a good first two seasons at Nkana on a shoestring budget.

He led Nkana to a fifth place finish in 2010 in their first season back since 2008 and later finished seventh in 2011.

  1. When the team wins the praise go to the players and when it loses, the coach faces the blunt of unrelenting criticisms.
Victory has many parents while defeat is an orphan… Linos, you now feel alone despite all your efforts at Nkana.
Coaching is a thankless job but someone has to do it

    • They published results as 9 draws 4 losses and 0 wins. Follwed by his final game as Nkana coach (3-1) loss… 17 games in all. If you can remember they terminated services for 7 senior players of whom they accused of undermining the coach. This did not solve the problem.. Finally they kick the coach instead of kicking the ball :(

  2. I don’t much about Makwaza, give job to Zeddy Saileti & Gift Kampamba… they will bring in some European snow football tactics.

  3. You see, a coach cannot do anything without good players. His job is to work with already fIirst class players and implement his tact. Poor budgets always bring poor results because these clubs buy mediocre or sub-standard players. I am sure this guy was not given enough funds to purchase good players. Just look at Man City, all of a sudden they are on top, because of good players. SO MONEY = GOOD RESULTS = HAPPINESS = MUTENDELE

  4. Not all former playerz, some of whom may not have been great in their hey-dayz, can make a mark when it comez to coaching. It takes charactor, discipline, leadership, responsibility, determination, intelligence, confidence and all to guide a team good performance for rezults. Doubt very much if anything will come out of the propozed Gift Kampamba and Zed Saileti.
