Gerald Phiri today got his Olympics Games debut to a flying start by making it to Sundays semifinals of the 100 meters at the Olympic Stadium in London.
Phiri clocked a time of 10:19 second after finishing third in heat one at the Olympic Stadium this afternoon to reach Sunday evening’s penultimate stage of the Olympics marque event.
The 23-year-old sprinter is the first Zambia at this Olympic to so far advance from a preliminary round event in what has been a forgettable outing for his five out of six compatriots.
Phiri will lineup in heat two on Sunday night longside Olympic and World champion Usain Bolt and USA sprinter Ryan Bailey who posted the day’s best time in the heat’s of 09:88 seconds.
Phiri is one of two Zambian athletes still in the hunt for honors in London together with Prince Mumba who takes to the track at the Olympic Stadium on Monday in the 800 meters.
Zambia’s five other representatives in the 100 meters women, judo, boxing, men and women’s swimming have all bowed out of the Olympics.

Congratulations so far. Gerald … you are making the smart people of the Zambian Enterprise proud.

That was great Gerald, I cud not believe my eyes, hope u do even better in the semis.
Watched him and was really proud. His technique is as good as any.
We r behind you Gerald.
What ever the out come Gerald should  earn for himself Government support in terms of sponsorship in his athletics career. This talent goes to show that ZAA could fish out more from the provinces and build them to world class sports men and women.
I am glad to be one of many visitors on this outstanding site (:, appreciate it for putting up.
Its 10.16 seconds and not 10.19. All the best Gerald
yes its better to report on some achievements not what were reading last 2 weeks of the PF tax money wasters.
It was good watching the fat, slow, age cheater, shippish, drunken, and impoverished Geral Phiri(I only knew abou him from the line up) from China(The colonialist of zambia) procedding to semi final. I bet with that villagism look, and nsokanda weight like mbesuma , he is not going anywhere, he gets booted out in semi finals against the elite societies of USAIN BOLT. Go back home and train ur ancestors not this pig u sent to london.
Thanks, my real name panyo patambala paoneka mphepo ikakuntha
@akulu xxx You are very stupid and a Choc ice
It was a delight watching Phiri, he was just unlucky could have come second. Something refreshing away from the rotten PF policies.
Chatulika Villager, I thought Ashley Cole was the only ‘Choc ice’?
@ 20 Ukulu Mpuno; I wonder why you are not eaten in China yet, you DOG
Great sprint Gerald! It was good to finally a Zambian at the games. I miss the days of Matete.Â
He ran good in his heat but he was among the slowest, Anyway 10.16 for a zambian running against tyson gay was fantastic. I hope he can progress further.
Zambian Olympics Games team knew that their performance was below 2% of world standards and they didn’t care about that, because they had plan B. Plan B doing Business, Sightsee and became spectators with plenty of money [US dollars] to use. Simple common sense it ease to go for Plan B than Plan A start competing with the likes of Olympic and World champion Usain Bolt and USA sprinter Ryan Bailey who posted the day’s best time in the heat’s of 09:88 seconds. It is better to do Business than participating Olympics Games.
God be with you and win gold medal to day,we are behind you.
All the Best Team Zambia
Go Phiri Go!
Ba LT, if you change the title to “Gerald Phiri Through To 100 Meters Semis” he might reach the final.
Most of our relatives who went to Europe, North and South America as slaves are doing fine at the on Olympic Games in London Usain Bolt, Tyson Gay, Serena Williams, Mo Farah, Micah Richards, Daniel Sturridge to mention just a few. In short they are representing Africa [in general] indirect
