Kansanshi Mine will construct 3 500 houses in Solwezi. Mine Corporate Social Responsibility Manager Bruce Lewis however said that bureaucracy in sourcing land is delaying the commencement of the project.
Mr Lewis is however happy that government has given a go ahead for the start of the construction of houses.
And Government is pleased with efforts by Kansanshi Mine to construct 3 500 houses in Solwezi.
Commerce Deputy Minister Richard Taima said that the planned housing project will benefit employees and ordinary Solwezi residents.
Speaking when he toured Kansanshi Golf Estates in Solwezi, Mr Taima said government is keen to partner with investors who are ready to plough back into communities where they do business.
He also said that discussions to allocate more land for the Kabitaka Housing Development (KHD) with traditional leaders in Solwezi are on going.

The Forum for AGE Justice International, would like to commend Kansanshi Mine in North Western Province for coming up with a Social Responsibility to construct 3,500 decent house unities. The mine comes shortly after Larfage Mine Launched a Contruction of Housing Unity Program, to be given as soft loans to the community. We also recommend government’s plan to revamp Union bank which will give loans to civil servants who would like to build houses. Decent shelter is one of the human Basic Rights. We ask many companies to come up with projects on house empowerment for citizen and workers. These companies have a good will for Zambia. I would like to urge AGE Justice International to support such efforts in the province.
Well done keep up your CSR.
That headline dont make sense
That is what I like hearing. Please find the land as quickly as possible. This is development. I hope they will be big houses and not Chamboli like structures. Don’t crowd them is small yards to form a komboni. Big yards and leave a lot of trees. We must start living well. Zambia chalo chesu.
WE APPREICTE THE GESTURE AND CALL UPON THE TRADITIONAL LEADERS TO GIVE MORE LAND FOR DEVELOPMENT.

GOOD STUFF
good
I believe this site holds very wonderful composed articles content.
This may look good on paper as this is just half the story as our journalists are far too lazy to dig deeper or investigate. You see Kansanshi Mine is owned by Canada’s First Quantum Minerals (FQM), and according  to Reuters online; FQM plans to invest $4 Billion in Zambia, $2 billion towards expanding its Kansanshi mine & $1.7billion to its new Trident mine. In return for this investment FQM is asking the gov’t for assurances in the form of 15 year Developmental Agreements that the tax rates would be as you see them now & its further asking the requesting mineral royalty tax to be at a lower level, in the 3 to 4 percent range from current 6%.
What these people are putting in is peanuts compared to what they want to  take out WAKE UP PEOPLE
Jay Jay, as a business it’s obvious that you’d want the tax regime to be predictable and I don’t see anything wrong in the company asking the GRZ to maintain taxes as “you see them now” for the next 15 years. This is what every business wants – stability and predictability. But FQM have not asked the GRZ to reduce mineral royalty tax but have said “it would be nice” if they are reduced to the 3 – 4% range, something any businessman would say. Thanks for that link but please don’t add your opinions to the story.
People follow the link below and read this article (2nd August 2012) and make your own conclusions…it seems that FQM has now started to schmooze the ruling PF administration, its only a matter of time before they are given a 15 year virtually free tax parachute.
Wake up people and smell the coffee.

9.1 Ricky Bobby
Rightly so a stable tax policy paramount, but requesting for a fixed tax rate is unfair in that a lot could happen in 15 years and the tax rate as it is isn’t that high….remember also that FQM isn’t happy with the current tax rate.
You read the link again, BUT this time put yourself in the shoes of a politician who is 9 months in office and is being enticed with this investment which has a completion date of 2 years. Do the maths…
 KoiteyÂ
It just shows how naive and ignorant you are of these investors to think they would build a university for you to be enlightened. FYI this company is building these houses for its worker bees so that they can extract your honey from your backyard sell it abroad whilst you’re busy preoccupied with your petty tribal and political squabbles.
FQM is upgrading Kansanshi Mine this isn’t Corporate Social Responsibility , its staff accommodation.. its only when these guys are in Africa do they talk about CSR in this way as we don’t really know what it is.Â
Wake up
