Southampton have agreed terms over the transfer of Zambian striker Emmanuel Mayuka from Swiss Super League side BSC Young Boys.

The 21-year-old will move to St Mary’s for an undisclosed fee having agreed a five-year deal to keep him at the Club until the summer of 2017.

Mayuka underwent a successful medical earlier on Tuesday and will be allocated the number 24 shirt once his move is complete.

The Zambia international has already been granted a work permit by the Home Office and Saints are now awaiting entry clearance for the deal to be fully ratified, which is expected to happen before the end of this week.

Should the formalities be resolved as anticipated, Mayuka will link up with his new team ahead of Sunday’s Barclays Premier League home fixture against Manchester United.

“Emmanuel is a lightning-quick striker who I am sure will excite the fans,” First Team Manager Nigel Adkins said of the Club’s fifth summer signing.

“He is only 21 years old but already has a great deal of experience, notably so at international level.

“He will bring something different to the group that we already have here at Southampton, and I look forward to seeing him pull on our shirt for the first time.”

  1. Congrats Mayuka! Good for football ya pa Zed! The sky is the limit Mayuka! Go for it boy! You make us proud!

  2. that is what am talking about.he is representing go boy work even harder earn those pounds and make it to the bigger teams right attitude ambitious talented a real pride of the nation

  3. Now we have arrived. Bwoy let every 1 know what zed bola is all about. after scoring against Man u do the flip flops and I cant wait to see the look on man u fans especially thoz in the zed. Way to go son. Congratulations are in order. I know u son and I know u will make in England coz u are a well deciplined lad and you have the fear of the lord in you, may God richly bless u.

  4. Better news than all the time hearing about how scared PF is of being dislodged from power by HH. All the best young man. Now where can I buy a Southampton shirt since I’m now a supporter.

  5. Go, go, Mayuka go. I too cannot wait for those flipping he does after scoring. Wow, he must score against Man U this Sunday. The best news in football so far, I just hope he does not guzzle lagers like made because English lagers are quite intoxicating.

  6. After winning the AFCON Cup, all eyes are on Zambian players to penetrate into the big leagues. I CAN SAFELY SAY MAYUKA WONT BE LIKE MR MBENSUMA

  7. Good move young man, that’s the way to go EPL. Iam going to pay my DSTV subscription right now and cant wait to see the young man in the line up against Man U on sunday.!!!

  8. Mayuka should be ready for relegation. Southampton is too small a club to my liking. He will appear ordinary as well among the amateurs he is joining.

    • You are right in a way, but if Mayuka impresses he wont be relegated with the team. Thats how the EPL works my man. Southampton may be relegated and Mayuka will certainly be bought by the BIG teams or at least a comfortable middle table team like everton, sunderland, liverpool, man utd, arsenal and many more.

    • You clearly do not know anything about English football and the history of that club, if you watched the Saints game against Man City you wouldn’t have said that…continue reading about the big 4 clubs which if he joined would have been sitting on the bench.

  9. though a lower ranking team, it looks like a good move in terms of entry to EPL. At least if he can keep his discpline, he can be a regular for this team. The young man should work harder and get into bigger teams- no doubt he has the talent to make it. Wish you well Mayuka.

  10. Gud for u , ur family and zambia as whole . cheers young man but pls put ur dreams for bigger teams like MU

  11. Congrats to Mayuka! I look forward to watching you on Sunday and hopefully score against the Red Devils (Muncs) to really kickstart you stay in the EPL. Despite being a staunch Gunner, I will follow you ardently and wish you the very best!

  12. This very very good news!!!!

Ba Man U I just hope the boy plays on Sunday & Scores to see how u will celebrate or insults our boy!!!

  13. Way to go Mayuka! Good move! I believe you are joining the right team at the right time! This may be a small team, but, we all gatta start somewhere! Good luck young man!!

  14. THATS JUST MADE MY WEDNESDAY!!!!! IT REALLY HAS! WELL DONE, KIDDO. A zambian in the prem. how fitting! make us proud, mfana.

  15. good news but what about QPR deal obviously not happening. keep your eyes on the ball and score enough to move up into big teams. time to shine. ignore these neglect views. its your time

  16. Congrats mwana.Way to go indeed…now the expectations on you have increased ,so try your level best to perform to the best of your ability.

  17. congrats mayuka please perfom beter so that u open doors for yo friends never should u imitate chi mbesuma who embaranced as in england go and conqure viva young man.

  18. Age its just a number the boy can make the saints nt to be relegated. He was a top scorer in the swiss league.

  19. Mayuka is a Tonga bull from Namwala. He was born in Namwala and so he is my relative. Tongas are great footballers. Remember, Funny Hangunyu, Sunzu, Clive Hachilensa and others.

  20. I would have thought he would go for Queens Park Rangers? I am not sure Southhampton have any future in the premeirship but, I am sure he gave it a lot of thought before putting pen to paper. Southhampton may  be a stepping stone towards Man U, in which case, it is a great strategy.

    Well done young man!

  21. With Arsenal doing my head in i would in the mean time be supporting Southhampton and won’t mind Mayuka scoring against us.

  22. Tumbana( No. 29). Stop being a tribalist. Tribalism makes you blind that is why your facts are equally wrong. Sunzu is not a Tonga but a Zambian of Congolese Origin. His father used to be a goalkeeper for Konkola Blades. He came to Zambia way back and played for Railway Express in Ndola when the late Chewe Lupili ( MHSRIP) was Chairman. Sunzu was however born in Zambia so he is a Zambian by birth.

  23. #31 Tumbama

Jeeze!!! even in sport we need to know what tribe players belong mwebantu pleease. Some people lead very sad lives to say the least. Mayuka is a Zambian footballer period please grow up.

  24. #33 Tumbama just keep quite if you have nothing to say. Mayuka is a national asset and not a district or provincial asset. Moreover he has never played football in those areas you mentioning.

  25. #39, i wish to inform you that Mayuka started playing football in Southern Province with a small team for sugar cane outgrowers called Kelaya Small Holding in Mazabuka the sweetest town in Zed. His grandfather to his mother’s side is still there and he is known by the name of Mr. Hakaseba Vice Snr. A Bemba cannot play the way Mayuka plays. Mayuka is a complete Tonga bull, full stop.

  26. Iwe chi Tumbana, change your language, we are not talking about tribes here, we are talking about a Zambian. Thats why GBM and Prof Chirwa are castigating you!!!

  27. Tongas are like crocodiles or the black mambas, you can never change them, flexibility and tolerance is not in their minds

  28. I am saying these things because you Bwmbas think you are too clever and you know everything. Bakolwee imwee………………!!!

  29. i am saying these things because you Bembas batubulu you think you know it all or you are a super tribe. Bakolwe imweee…!!!

    • But ichi # 47 You are so stuck in the past, sounds like you belong to the stone age group abena zinjathropus banobe. tribalism.

  30. But sure you Tongas are so ,……..,finish yourself. This is the level you have gotten to of glorifying your tribe. Why guys…change your atitude Tongas please. Mayuka whether Tonga or not has to be applauded for his geat move to the English premier and every Zambia has to be proud of him. Congrats Mayuka and maythe Living Lord God bless you.

  31. Why complain about age? Under 20 world cup in Canada was in 2007. We are in 2012 -2007 = 5yrs. Then he is 21yrs – 5yrs = 16yrs old he was at world cup. And I remember Kalusha taking care of that boy like his own son. He didn’t even play that much at Under 20, Bomber was too young, he is young.

  32. When Charles Musonda landed in Belgium he was asked “what r u having for dinner?”. In his limited queen’s lingua he answered “I want a cow” (instead of “I want beef “).
In short, Mayuka my boy, don’t eat too much becoz you’ll gain weight & end up like Mbesuma. Will be watching u this weekend against Manure (Man – U).

  33. great move for the young man… Southampton fc has a great reputation for developing young talent like Bale, Walcot, Oxlade Chamberlain. He should get a good education at that club which will hopefully lead to greater things for club and country.

  34. Congrats Mayuka.Word of caution hard work begins now.The British are perfectionists and half baked performances they do not allow. Many great players failed to excel in England:Robinho,Veron,Mbesuma,Morientes etc its not an easy league and so it is in every field.Hard work discipline will open doors for your friends. You are the torch bearer.

  35. Best wishes Mayuka and proud of you!! You will make watching the Sunda game against Manchester United difficult for me, tho!! I would want you to score on your debut, but as a Manchester United fan, i would want us to maintain a clean sheet for the first time in the season!!! Anyway, Southampton is my seond EPL club now!!

  36. I fail to comprehend how some people think really, even when its not necessary to bring up differences poeple still want to differ, this is certainly not a topic people should start attacking each other, certainly not.trying to belittle a certain tribe just shows how low thinking that individual is, no one is superio than the other, Tonga, Lozi,Bemba,Ngoni Kaonde or any other tribe in Zambia we are all the same, we are one and i think its time we started treating each other with love and respect if we to expect any meaningfull development in our country, it is our combined effort that will push us all foward. i mean guys we are a different generation for goodness sake, lets stand together as one Zambia…lets show each other love am tired of this tribe hurting its suc a shame

  37. I don’t usually comment on tribal nonsense. But Tumbama(29)’s comments are a sign of someone with no confidence in his own tribe. There is no problem with players’ origin in Zambian football, they have come from all corners of Zambia purely on ability. What cannot be disputed is the dominance of players of Bemba origin from 1960s to date. This comes naturally and Bembas do not boast about it as its non-topical.KK11 then could manage to feature nearly the whole team with players of Bemba leanings.Talk of early/mid ’70s, national team could start with Abraham NKole or Emmanuel Mwape through Dick Chama and finish with Godfrey Chitalu. In late 70s early 80s, in goal we could instal Vincent Chileshe through Evans Katebe to Alex Chola and end with Bernard Chanda. Mid 1980s, don’t even go there.

  38. This is the best club far more suited to Muyuk’s style of play as this team attacks on the break and plays lightening quick counter-attacking football. I watched them against Manchester City and they were not intimidated one bit…they also need to reinforce their defence. The Saints is far better than QPR or any big four clubs as he is guaranteed of playing every game if he proves himself; if he becomes a success which i believe he will he will bring the spotlight on our national team every time he is away on international duty.
Talk about hitting the ground running Muyuka first game will be against my team Manchester United…

  39. cont’d..Mid/late 1980s in goal we had Efford David Chabala and in between were beston Chambeshi,Frederick Kashimoto, Wisdom Chansa ending in young Kalusha Bwalya, the rest is history. And for your own information the first Zambian international exports to Europe and South America in the 1960s were players of Bemba origin- Fred Mwila, Howard Mwikuta and Ement Kapengwe. Then in later years we all know Kalusha Bwalya, Johnston Bwalya, Charles Musonda. The National Team could simply not form a winning team focusing on balancing tribes, its individual ability which perhaps reflects in daily lives of people in Zambia.Bembas are cunning and simply refuse to play second best period. This is isnt about tribal it is individual drive and motivation.

  40. Mayuka could be better advised to go to school now and get a real Job
Running to kick a ball and getting all these people excited about someone that is only there for 5 years and maybe looking for a job after this is trecheclous and unfair to this guy

Questions to ask are as follows, Can he read? Can he write? Can he spell? Can he extract a tria balance? Can he do a cash flow forecast, Can he write a management report? Does he know what a general ledger is? What of day book? DOes he kno who Maslow is, or even Michael Porter’s 5 forces

    Education is important

    Thanks

  41. congrates mayuka, long live and wish u well in england remember this is a call for extra hard work. remember who u are and know why u are there, the sky is the limit, u are a world class player. wish you God’s abundance blessing.

  42. Congratulations Mayukwa. May the God that has seen you through continue with you as you progress to heights higher than what your mind can comprehend. We thank God for your achievement.

  43. Its now high time Dstv became prepaid,we are loosing alot of money especially with this rampant load shedding.Let them introduce bundles that are affordable.
We want to save so that we can watch our boy in action,go Mayuka go.

  44. ahh yes will be tuned in this weekend hopefully he plays..its definitely a good look we are the African champs we need more players in the most competitive leagues
    #chipolopolo

  45. I totally diasgree with # 10 Joe, it is better for Mayuka to join a small team in the EPL than the so called big four Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool and not get regular playing time and eventually get frustrated and lose form for the club and chipolopolo. At Southampton he will be an instant star and will then move on to something big after a few years, he is still young.

  46. Mushota!! Having homework does not mean you have to memorise all your lessons on Mayuka. You pratt!

  47. #Tumbama I must tell you that if Mayuka was thinking like you he wouldnt have been where he is now. Think above hate and accept your position in life. Make the best of what you have.

  48. If mayuka had joined the so called big teams! He wud hav crushed but southampton is a gud starting point.its better than where drogba and aneika are playing,China league? hell No! For change a change we won’t be tokin about TP mazembe alone.and pliz don’t bring tribalism in football

  49. BAM BAM Chipolopolo, Zambian Talent has finally been exposed and will be cemented worldwide. PFon the other hand will explicitly tell you all the great things have happened in their ERA. Hell no! Its Gods time for Zambia to shine and Inspire.

My Mayuka, Godfrey Ucar, Go for it Son. English Prem is best place to get experience and assist Z again to defend AFCON

  50. # Mushota, grow up and get a life. You think your little accounting/management knowledge is all there is to life ah? Wake up and smell the coffee sweetheart!!
