GOVERNMENT has dissolved the National Housing Authority (NHA) board of directors after discovering that the institution had been misapplying resources instead of providing affordable housing to the people.

Local Government and Housing Minister, Emerine Kabanshi said at a Press briefing in Lusaka yesterday that she had signed a statutory order dissolving the NHA board.

“I have directed that immediate steps be put in place to re-constitute the board at NHA with new membership in accordance with the provisions of the law and to ensure that this is done without delay so that operations at the Authority are not negatively affected,” she said.

She said NHA was a Government entity which had the onerous task of making available low-cost housing stock countrywide to stabilise the shortage which was in millions.

“It is, therefore, sad to note that instead of pursuing this assignment, the Authority is bogged down in misapplying the resources in every way possible,” she said.

She said as minister responsible, she would not allow any acts that would frustrate the ideals of the Patriotic Front Government which were laid down in its manifesto.

Ms Kabanshi said institutional boards were tools of good governance and when issues affecting their operations arose, they should be corrected promptly.

  1. So is this board going to be replaced with our very competent PF card holders. Please hold transparent interviews and replace the board with competent hardworking people.

    • The minister has stated in her speech and i qoute “I have directed that immediate steps be put in place to re-constitute the board at NHA with new membership in accordance with the provisions of the law and to ensure that this is done without delay so that operations at the Authority are not negatively affected,” she said” is that not transperent enough?

    • All those found wanting should face the law. They were entrusted with the responsibility of providing housing to the people and they misappropriate funds, please cage them. People continue to steal because most of the culprits go scot-free and so all criminally inclined people think they can get away with it. We need to set very serious precedents which will deter would be thieves.

  2. PF should not get involved in the operations of NHA. We know what pf’s notive is….the family forest to spread its tentacles

  3. This is more money in PF cadres.. So does this mean in 2016 all these boards(ECZ ERB etc) will be dissolved again when PF kisses the dust??

    • Dream on. 2016 is just rund the corner. All the maids who get 500pin plus will be up in arms to vote for more money in the pocket. All the street vendors too. Strategic.

    • You better do your home work dude, most maids don’t even have voters cards worse the so called street vendors. The PF colleagues(cab drivers) are pissed with this failure of a government. watch & learn don t support blindly. The only thing i hate about PF supporters/carders is that they don’t use logic

  4. Good let us sweep Zambia. We want you PF to start building low cost house units now. Dont behave like the thieves in MMD. Care for he poor please.

  5. who were the members under MMD? Competent memebrs of the public who could not stand up to RB in zesco, znbc, nha, znbs, you name them. very competent!!!

    • That is why we removed MMD, so the PF should make a great change. Don’t dwell on the past. Life should only get better, if we wanted the mistakes of MMD we would have kept them. Don’t be dull as usual like me. You’re better than that!

    • Lison. what are you talk about Zambia. you think that it a useless country. you are stupid. whats America. shame you.people the are sleeping in the street

  6. This is good news. I have always wondered why a government institution wd be selling houses at the same prices as the private sector. That explains why Leopard’s hill houses are still unsold becos of exorbitant prices.
