Winning Copa Coke Schools Wasn’t Easy-Mathews Sichone

Victorious Zambia Schools Team defender Mathews Sichone says it was not easy for the youngsters to win the recent COPA Coca-Cola continental championship held in South Africa.

Last Wednesday, Zambia won the week long 2012 COPA Coca-Cola championship after collecting 16 points in eight matches played on a round robin basis.
Sichone said Zambia faced a number of challenges on their way to scooping the tournament in Pretoria.
“There have been a lot of difficulties on our road to winning this title. The weather in South Africa was a challenge that we had to acclamatise to,” he told KickOff.

“We also did not start off well. We started with a defeat but we did not drop our heads and went on to conquer all the teams after that,” Sichone said.
He expressed joy over Zambia’s achievement.
“I am very delighted that things went our way and that we won the tournament. My goal was to play well for my team and win the tournament.
Sichone has been selected in the continental All Star Team.

  1. Zambian Soccer going back to where it was pre-Gabon. Now I believe what many soccer pundits said after the Gabon air disaster that it was going to take us at least 20 years to build the game and be able to compete again at high level. Though I’m not fully satisfied with the caliber of the senior national team, but the developments in the recent past like winning the CAN 2012 and having a Zambian play in a big league (Mayuka) gives us hope of a bright future. Congrats boys

  2. Zambian football on the rise again as we just produce someone like the Legendary Great Kalu in the making which truelly lies in the youthful league to take up the mantle of the future.

  3. The boy Sichone should play in Kampala, he can play in position of Hichani. Or move Sunzu to #6 like he used to in past, then 4 & 5 is this Sichole & HH, ka can rest. or play place of that Katongo who will defenately not make to Uganda, people are sleeping ku Manda to make sure he develops a rash.

  4. Poor Journalism, we want to know how many countries participated and which teams the Zambian boys played. What were the scored?
