  1. This is pathetic…  my eyes can not just believe that in modern day Zambia kids can be going to such a school.

    • what difference can we make to see that these kids have a better life. Lets not just comment. We have the ability to assist its not the Government to blame daily. Most of us went to free schools without any hardships and yet today we are always blaming GVT for everything. Change should start with us. What have the schools we went to benefited from us? Think about it.

    • You could be right Dido. Actually that shows how the previous Government neglected this area they chose to dress every tree with Chitenge yet there was such schools that could have been worked on using the same money spent on Chitenges.

Madam Inonge do something about this school.

    • MMD & RB for you!!!

The images feel like an “out of body” experience! Could even be likened to pictures taken by the “Mars rover!!”
All this as someone has mentioned b4 – whilst people were dressing trees with chitenge & others were burying, is it billions of kwacha???

Kudos to LT – for pictures do indeed tell a story of their own!!!

    • The Engineer(Australia) Lets do something.
My young sister Dr Mukatimui Kalima Munalula is doing a fundraising 21 km marathon on 21/10/2012 from Woodlands round about to her residence in Lilayi. She has previous experience in the past and has made a valuable contribution towards Colon cancer at UTH last year when she raised funds yet agai in a funraising run from Kafue round about to her residence in Lilayi (The video can be viewed by going on you tube and tyiping her names in the search area).
Contributions for this can be made to the Resident Doctors Association of Zambia who are handling all contributions and payments. Please feel free to contact the association for your contributions.

  2. No, that is not right! It is as if this part of Western Province has been living in an era when there was no government.

The PF have an opportunity to make gains where perhaps UNIP, and certainly MMD failed by delivering to the people both infrastructure and development.

How do you allow children to learn in those conditions and with what utilities?

  3. What a shame, you may end up sympathising with the BA activists.Bo Inonge dont just get disappointed, you were MP there before what did you do in your tenure apart from following up on allowances at NGOCC and Parliament.

  4. Yaba teriible No wonder these people of western province wants to seperate from zambia. Sad situation there in some parts of western province, 27 years of UNIP + 20 years of MMD = Nothing in western province.PF can redeem themselves if they can do something in that part of the country.

  5. All governements from UNIP to current day PF have very obviously failed Zambian’s. How do we get out of this rut? For starters BIRTH CONTROL please!!

    • Cindy don’t be fixated!!! What has birth control got to do with Corruption, Stealing of govt wealth & outright mismanagement of national resources?????

  6. These are some of the real issues that require attention and yet the powers be’s top agenda is petty and cheap politicking. Forcing chiefs to remove their traditional attire (hats) at state house, meaningless and unproductive reshuffles for example , no real agenda for national development and job creation.

  7. Zambians? This is sad. In these times to have such facilities? It is really a shame. Mama Wina, you are a member of this constituency. We should ask you questions what you have been doing. why get disappointed when you know that you have not done much. Sort out this issue. We cannot let students learn in such environment. What a shame??

  8. BANE i couldnt believe my eyes bushe namo nimu zambia mama inonge you have alot of work please lob from govnmt and NGOs to come to your aid pipo should see the work mof their vote i feel pit i wish father digeong was alive to see those pictures as if it is in the war zone

  9. Mmm, this is really dangerous! Anyway, this has to do with our mindset. I don’t think some of these issues need donor or government.  This is work for Community development or Social workers. Development is incremental and the communities themselves should be, in a way, be contributing to the infrastructure development. However, this is not to take away the government responsibility but to emphasize the need for partnership in development. The habit of waiting for government to bring development always ends up in a disastrous situation. That is really a disaster in the making!  How much is a black board??? The government and the people in this area could not afford a blackboard let alone renovating those structures? Strange!

  10. mwebalozi imwe shame on you.there are so many lozis who are very rich, you have liato.the winas, milupi, the lewanikas, lubinda, harington, masheke, mmembe, kaingu, and many more.surely guys you can do something for your province.look at your friends bembas and easterners have invested heavily in their provinces,

    • THis has got nothing to do with whether one is Lozi or not. The govt needs to work for the whole country Its not only tribesmates who should bring development.

  11. This is a jungle

I can see bright lights outside my office, to see that people live like this, and meetings and events are conducted like this, brings a tear drop in my eyes

This is ancient oh my G…

    Thanks

  12. LT, THIS IS PERFECT REPORTING. THIS IS WHAT WE WANT TO SEE IN ALL MEDIA IN ORDER TO HIGHLIGHT THE NEEDS OF RURAL COMMUNITIES. AND NOT HH AND MUMBA ALL THE TIME. NEXT WHEN A PROPER SCHOOL GET BUILT IN THIS PLACE (NALOLO), PLEASE REPORT IT AS WELL. TOO, FOLLOW UP ANY INFORMATION OF GOVT’S PLAN TO BUILD A NEW FULLY EQUIPPED SCHOOL, AND ANY OTHER DEVELOPMENTS. PLEASE, KEEP ON HIGHLIGHTING TO US THESE UNDER-DEVELOPMENTS.

  13. Unless MPs start living in the constituencies they represent, there will be no development. The pictures tell a story of ALL the villages in Zambia.

  14. My village schools are much better than this, am not a minister but I donated 10,000 bricks to the basic school in my village, this is a shame that she knew about all this when she was campaigning and now a year after she goes back to promise what. I am so disappointed because I had so much respect for this woman. What are the westerners all doing in Lusaka go home and develop where you come from. If we can all give back something to our home towns life will be better for our cousins. I now plan to sink a bore hole in my village, we have waited for the government for too long wells are not clean anymore. I built a modern house for my parents and soon will put solar but my home is in deep dioli near the Zambezi.

  15. Its strange that most people that have negative comments about Zambia are in the diaspora and before they abandoned Zambia, they used
to live in the same conditions or even worse..now that they have seen bright lights of the western world…iyeee mwandi….only Zambians have this kind of mentality…you will never hear GHanians or Malians being so negative about their homeland…like Mushota

    • Sorry mate. I went to school in UNIP days. I never went to a school that looked like the images above.
       Stop criticizing honest observations.

  16. But these same villagers, why produce so many children you will not even feed or educate. Very sad pictures indeed. In this day and age, you cannot expect such things.

  17. “ANI HUPULA MANYANDO YA SENANGA IN SESHEKE; BANA BA YESU, SICHABA SINYANDILE” FRANK MUKANWA ONCE SANG…LETS BREAK AWAY FROM THIS ZAMBIYA NATION. WE HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE.

  18. Are those pictures of classrooms and teachers houses correct or just an imagination? If it is the real thing then things are extremly bad and a disaster should be declared. Then no wonder people are talking.

  19. Sichili and Mwandi where she was touring are not in her constituency (Nalolo) but the main thing other than the those unresearched details by LT is that this situation should notbe allowed so many years after independence. In western province the last people to really make an effort to build schools were the missionaries and in the last 10-20 years some community schools have been built but as for the govt nothing tangible can be seen other than the destruction of the schools they took over from the catholics and other missionaries.

  20. sure these are the facilities for our future leaders lets be SERIOUS, we need IMMEDIATE ACTION ba mp i repeat IMMEDIATE ACTION.

  21. This tells you that too many things went wrong in this country. In the 47+years after independence, we’ve never had war in this country and yet some war-tone countries look better than this. PF, you have an opportunity to prove yourselves worthy of the mandate to guide this country to see better days coz this can’t be happening!!!

  22. This is just a tip of the Barotseland iceberg. We have ourselves as Zambians to blame for not being serious about developing our lands. There is need for a paradigm shift to urge all Zambians to focus on developing our rural areas to the same extent of town areas. This is definitely a must for this leadership. If we lose this opportunity, we shall have only ourselves to blame.

  23. You just want to cry when you see such pictures. People cant be suffering like this in this day and age. I wonder if these poor souls even have any piped water. Imwe ba PF go and build decent accomodation and schools in this place. We cant be having mudhuts and thatched roofing in this day and age!!

  24. Luapula Province Permanent Secretary Margaret Bwanga-Miyoba says government has spent over K35 billiion on selected rural electrification projects in the region most of which are scheduled for completion the end of this year.

Mrs. Miyoba says it is gratifying to note that government has started connecting rural areas in her province to the national grid while far flang areas are being electrified through the use of solar energy.

    • Luapula is the next mining town.So the companies to set up business there, reliable power is required. In case you didn’t know Luapula has been receiving Low voltage power for years.I know you are trying to compare Luapula to western province but just chill. The taxes which companies will pay in luapula will go towards building western province as well. One zambia, one nation!

    • 9 out of the 12 notable waterfalls in Zambia with Hydro-Electric potential are in Luapula Province with 3 of those waterfalls already generating electricity. You can’t expect a province currently generating its own electricity not to be connected to the national grid.

You also can’t expect the same region producing electricity not have the benefits of the same. By investing ZMK35 billion connecting the province to the national grid, Luapula is sharing its resources with the rest of the nation.

I come from there and I am proud to say, the province is helping power supply to the rest of the nation. What is missing here in WP is exploration. WP has gold, gemstones, oil, gas and timber resources that have not been fully exploited.

  25. Which women and children was she talking to? Which classrooms was she inspecting? Is that the reflection of Western Province? Shameful! A province that has produced PhDs, Professors, top politicians from independence, stinking rich people, beautiful women, kuliboneshas, etc. Haaa! No wonder it is the poorest province in Zambia..

  26. COME ON PF, WE ALL BEHIND YOU. DEVELOPMENT STARTS BY SUCH AND CHALLENGE ALL PEACE LOVING ZAMBIAS, NOT GOVERNMENT ONLY, TO SEE HOW THEY CAN BEST HELP.
THE JOURNEY TO HEAVEN STARTS BY ONE

  27. Madam inonge be honest, those are the best schools around there. But see construction of universities in other provinces:

Luapula Province Permanent Secretary Margaret Bwanga-Miyoba says government has spent over K35 billiion on selected rural electrification projects in the region most of which are scheduled for completion the end of this year.

Mrs. Miyoba says it is gratifying to note that government has started connecting rural areas in her province to the national grid while far flang areas are being electrified through the use of solar energy.
madam wina, your own scool is the worst.we ahve been mistreated in the zambian arrangement.WE are ready to take our destiny in our hands as barotseland. These fat MPs move around, sit in parliament doing nothing. You can be shocked if each

  28. Unbelievable!!! The lozis are 50 years behind. I understand the royal family has been resisting developmental projects from central govt for a long time. Is that true?

  29. MP got a camera and got photos.inonge has nor gone even into proper Barotseland, you will cry,you will hate all MPs from the west.we nolonger need MPs in barotseland.our system will address our issues.Let barotseland go.You have developed you areas because you know we are not part of your country.Thank you.We have left you.am crying…….I hate zambia.

  30. Point to note, you are not seeing any youngmen anywhere.only the old, children, the sick.Where are the youths.be carefullllllll. They cant waste their time with wina. The young men are ready for anything.they will risk it all, they dont have anything to lose.let see this clearly, its terrifyng.heart is pounding to do anything, nothing to live for.But my oppreesor must be hit harder to feel my pain.i have nothing to lose.to die is nothing, someone is paying back.

  31. This is just a tip of a gigantic and disproportionate rural poverty, underdevelopment, decay and dilapidation obtaining across the country
    This is simply unacceptable

  32. This is good reporting. It is sad to see delapilated building as class rooms. GRZ please do something and engage the community to participate. The Lozis are busy dreaming about succession and not doing nothing about such horrible sights.

  33. Heads up Lusaka times, this is what we call reporting…not the nonsense of HH this Nawakwi that….give us such then people with the right sense of mind can comment and contribute positively…..enough of politics pleasssssse.

    • Without such issues (underdevelopment, poverty, mismanagement) what would be the point of having politics? These are the issues that politicians must be aiming to address. But what do you get from African politicians particularly those in government?Diversion from the main issues to eg HH said this,is bitter,is tribal. And the poor masses just follow the winds blindly. Its a shame

  34. The task of developing a natyion lays with the govt, not individuals regardless of whether they come from there or not. All they can do is suppliment what the govt is doing, which is zero in this case. No wonder “sicaba sahesu si bata ku pumeha kwa bukoba-tuna bwa Zambia.” This marriage is over, if Bembas want to retain it, let them go ahead, as far as we are concerned “nako ya ku pumeha i fitile!”

  35. Only the other day was this bo inonge yapping on HH’s fight with the hired gun nawakwi. These (poverty, underdevelopment, mismanagement etc) are the issues that PF is supposed to be having sleepless nights about.shaaa

  36. Pic #17 shows a boy naked. This modern world a child walking naked. The problem with Barotse are the Lozis themselves. They don’t want development. They are very difficult people. Most will suffer double tragedy; here on earth and in heaven.

  37. #47 the task of developing a nation lies with individuals not govt. The most developed countries have not done so due to gr8t govt but gr8t minds. The giant corporations oiling their economies were started by individuals who brought gr8t products that created employment and taxes. Not so in zambia where we look up to GRZ for everything and never create gr8t companies bcoz we’d rather do politics, watch the EPL or drink tujilijili.Yes we’re responsible for this mess bcoz the zambian worker is not productive enough to generate wealth that creates taxes for such terrible schools.

  38. Ok us lets face it Government will never do anything we can yap and blog all we want.Lets just all donate to our old schools.Set up scholarships we can sponsor a kid for a term or through the whole year.there are many Zambians doing things quietly thats never reported but its obvious more needs to be done.Well done to #21 mwenzo.

  39. well as far as i am concerned this has to affect us all as citizen of the human race regardless of our intricate fabric of our origins i think for those of us that like to affillaite ourselves that we are lozi s or bembas Tongas whatever your your tribe its just foolish pride and stupidity if you can look at those pictures and you have been you have to compassionately feel with empathy for that pathetic look , i have travelled to nothern and eastern and southern there are grim potraits close o that but not like that but this is extreme .
now for mushota you are one egotistic person without a shred of human dignity you seem to glory in the usage of your aquired interllect using prose and sometime sophisticated construction of the english language but education

    • but mushota its bushit and worthless not to be proud of where you came from you are the kind of people that would reject your family for wealth be real God is a higher power education is not everthing without social responsibility and self love and love for country civilization has thrives only when compassionate upright standup women and men recognize where they come from be it a desolate plcae or rich country be real u coconut of a person

  40. #52 I agree with you…people should know that Lozi people are difficulty to work with they have the same mentality of calling any non Lozi…”Kwerekwere” like they do in South Africa….a Lozi person can stab you without remorse….some of us have worked there….they are rude never want to take instructions from anyone other than a Lozi….but despite what am highlighting, the photos are a sad thing to look at this time and age…I know Lozi’s to be intelligent but rudeness iyayi number one only mixed integration can help redirect their attitude but who wants to go there

  41. This is an indictment that all successive govts from KK to Rupiya never cared. You would be forgiven if you thought this scene depicts Somali because for two decades there was no govt there. What are govts for if they can’t afford decent classrooms and teachers houses. How shameful! Sometimes it’s not easy to avoid thinking our leaders are not normal people. How could a sane and sober leader allow a situation to deteriorate to this depressing level!

  42. Zambia has failed us! Zambia has failed us indeed, equal wealth distribution by GRZ is non existent. The university in muchinga is not being built by individuals but by GRZ, in the years to come the children who hail from one part of Zambia will be considered to be more educated and get more employment opportunities than those coming from these schools in this article This is the reason why people are trying to put their hopes on the BRE, GRZ systems have completely failed here…There is no hope at all. One day God will redeem his people,

  43. Gents and ladies its indeed sad. If i could have a way to do it i am willing to give money for bricks or a black board. Any body in Zambia has ideas?

  44. This is not true that is not a school its just propaganda by Lt, yes inonge went their but those are abandoned buildings not school

  45. This canot only be in one province , this is what is in avarege in all provinces , now it is time to work and distribute wealth evenly ,our mps need to tour their areas to note the areas of need , not just sit in lusaka .

  46. Can somebody give me ideas of how to contact the school. All i see on the pics is that its Mwandi basic school. I am willing to start a campaign with my kids to collect books or anything we can give to this school

    • You can write to the school using The Headteacher, Mwandi Basic School, Nalolo, Senanga, or c/o the DEBS, Ministry of Education, Senanga District. I bet you will have to write many such letters because in Western Province, such schools are in the majority. But yes, start with this one. Best regards and thats a demonstrable good spirit.

  47. @55. Why do id.iots like you preach nonsense? Who has ever said No to development in Western Province? Mention one person who said don’t build permanent classroom structures and teachers houses seen in that picture? Was it Inonge? Who ever said No to the Mongu-Sesheke rd? Or the Mongu-Kalabo rd? Mention one person! The Barotse secessionists are motivated by the failure of your Zambian gov’ts to put up these things! And please to hell with the self serving idi.iotic comments at Lozis not helping themselves to build their own schools…Honestly can anyone of the idio.ts propagating this fallacy prove that the schools they attended were built by their tribesmen? Schools, hospitals roads etc in Zambia are built by the govt so please spare us your idiocy. This is all about govt negligence.

  48. How many years has she been a member of parliament for this area? Is this the first time she has been to this school. We need to keep a closer eye on the performance of our MPs. This is really pathetic.

  49. @69. And in your warped head your prejudice against Lozis justifies govt not building permanent structures in that school even for its employees i.e. teachers! You’re a very bigoted and sick person . Please spare us your bigoted theories about Lozis. You’re just projecting your own tribalism. What you see is the failure of your own gov’t. Stop blaming the victims of state failure!

  50. Yes yes i know its governments responsibilty but honestly are there no businessmen in Nalolo who can donate a packet of cement and black paint? Even in Western world not all is provided by the government citizens need to start stepping in small things like chalkboards or are they all so poor that they can’t even donate 1 pins?

  51. Fellow Zambians, these pictures are troublesome for all of us to look at. What went /has gone wrong. These pictures, above all political comments, show how Zambia still lacks behind and no one cares. For a child to reach the university from such a school is a miracle. Yet many of our children face these challenges as they look for a better future, honestily? . Just to compare (I am somewhere in Europe) Today I took my son to the health centre. He was given prescription which is electronic i.e. just went to the pharmacy and told the pharmacists his birth date, he got his medicine (of course you pay). What do we need to do as a country surely…. irrespective of whom we prefer to be in state house….

  52. What is the essence of even publishing these photos of the mp’s tour? Correct me if am wrong but what will this MP do to correct this situation in her constituency? It’s not enough to tell people to form business groups in order to enable them access grants and farming equipment from government.
Provide incentives for these poor people. Empower them with the tools they need to sustain themselves. I mean, surely those so called classrooms and teachers’ houses are death trap for the people. These are avoidable accidents waiting to happen.

Very disheartening pictures indeed. Happy monday everyone!!!!!

  53. Strictly speaking it is not in the gift of the MP to develop his or her area because the MP does not necessary control the resources of the state. It is the responsibility of the government in power, regardless of how the people in that area voted. MMD cannot be absolved of the responsibility this state of affairs. Twenty year under MMD and this is the legacy they left!!!! I hope MMD sympathizers are proud!! Having laid bare this state of affairs in public, I hope PF will now spend some money in this area.

  54. Is this Zambia? Surely, I was one of the sceptical people over the Lozis attitude, but from now on, I change my mind. This is inhumane! Every zambian has the right to enjoy the fruits of this country.

    • Who has been their representative since 1964?????????????

You need to know where these 46 years went for you to change your mind. This area has had representation even for the last twenty years and was let to deteriorate to such an extent.

What is required is urgent intervention as follows; do a BOQ of what is required procure in Lusaka do contracts for renovation/construction and begin, within a month we can be seeing something different, this is what separates men from boys.

  55. A picture saves you 1000 words, does it? Maulesi!! Yet get an educated person from that school you will hear they only got A+ through and through. Ooh yeah, cannot be surprised. Some of the schools that have produced highly educated people can make you cry if you looked at them. Thats why I love Zambia; see how you have all sobered up?

  56. Mrs. Wina, these are the issues we expect you to address with your PF Govt instead of you joining Nawakwi, Masebo and Emily Sikazwe (all marriage failures) in insulting HH. Participating in such nonsense will never bring development to Senanga.
We would like to know what measures you have taken so far regarding your vist to this stone age area.

  57. No one should blame the government but ourselves for not being proactive. As citizens we have to take the initiative of policing some of the things. In this case regarding the outlook of the infrastructure, the Ministry of Education Inspection Department has failed us. They have not been going to schools to inspect and see to it that established standards for learning and infrastructure are being followed. I remember in the old days after independence, the Inspector of Schools visited schools unannounced. By so doing, Headmasters did their best on performance and ensured that the school surrounding and infrastructure was in acceptable condition. We must do something. One Zambia One Nation.

  58. Firstly…who is going to blame PF for this? The state of that school has been that way for a long time and I am sure it has been falling apart for a long time. Why can’t Zambians help themselves napapata.
Surely chalk board an enterprising teacher could get some wood and black pait and next thing; black board. I went to a boaring school iya ba sungu and you know they built most of the stuff themselves…chalck boards were just painted walls. The beds were just made using wood na geyser was made with a drum sitting over a fire…we need to use some initiative. How can a person be living in a house and then expect the government to show up one day with a repair man. I am sorry, but I am tired of people waiting for things to happen. The principle should call an NGO. I’m pissed

  59. @Developer. You are so right. Imagine how many schools have sprung up in Lusaka in the last 5 years alone. There needs to be school inspectors, even the new universities springing up everywhere. Where and what is the standard?
Zambians need to be more proactive. Its time for an SOS…Save Our Selves.

  60. This intone has been mp for how long? Since 1964? Where has she been all these years. In Lusaka and dining with the litunga

  61. Are people telling me that schools similar to the one in the picture do not exist in other parts of Zambia? I know for a fact they do. Such schools also do exist in rural South africa. The only difference is that in South Africa politicians approach business to help with the improvements of such schools. Mandela when he was still active raised millions of Rands and improved so many rural schools. When Inonge was going on tour she knew the situation which was obtaining on the ground, who did she invite along for the trip. Incidentally the allowance which she will make/made from the trip is enough to buy roofing sheets for one teacher’s house.I hope she will donate her allowance towards that cause.

  62. These pictures are heart breaking. They paint a very bad image of Zambia as a nation.
I totally agree with the views of bloggers who question the integrity of MPs from that province including Inonge Wina herself. What efforts have they made in their constituencies? NOTHING!
It is very unfair for anyone to blame the PF government for the shameful state of affairs. UNIP and MMD are the devils to blame, they had a total of nearly 50 years between them to put things right not only in Senanga but all over Zambia. The PF has inherited headaches.

  63. So she just blamed MMD and they clapped for her, 10 years down the line their children will be clapping for the next MP who will then be blaming PF.

    What a country!

  64. Am sorry but the area chiefs and parents who send their children to these death traps are morons, governments ineptitude is no excuse for this total lack of common sense. Understandably they always vote opposition MPs because they got no faith in the ruling party but still nothing changes so maybe its time they started using their heads and try make lives a bit easier for themselves. FOR CHRIST SAKE PLEASE PEOPLE PUT YOUR THINKING CAPS ON, DAMN IT!!!. No sympathy from me.

  65. Oh no, this is actually better than some parts of Western Province like Kaunga Mashi, where pupils learn under trees. The clinics are held in some grass shelter like the classroom above. I am not Lozi BUT whe they talk of under development, then the area is as good as ancient. Only a stupit poltician will concentrate on politicking instead of addressing such problems!

  66. # 32 … 9 out of the 12 notable waterfalls in Zambia with Hydro-Electric potential are in Luapula Province with 3 of those waterfalls already generating electricity.

  67. awe mwebantu sure the westerners have a reason to be mad with the governments for letting children face such conditions in a quest for education. does anyone see these kids make it to a university and compete for a PhD degree with other children out there?

PF, this is work you have to bring to the fore at once

  68. Each Constituency has an MP. Each MP makes promises to people on the basis of which they elect him. If these Naloloites live in such conditions, they have democratic power to kick out the inept MP and choose another. They have had that power since 1964! If a man owns a gun and a lion enters his house and kills him when he could have used the gun, don’t blame the lion!

  69. @Msana Wanzili, those kids are entitled to attend school in government built structures just like you and your relatives did. Why should they be the only ones whose parents are asked to build them schools? Aren’t there govt built schools even in Lusaka or Copperbelt provinces? It is the responsibility of the Zambian govt to provide hospitals, roads and schools in every province in Zambia whether or not people voted for that particular gov’t. Besides they voted for KK, Chiluba, levy and RB governments. So you’re just yapping nonsense!

  70. @106. B.R Mumba Snr. The building of public or government infrastructure like schools, roads and hospitals in WP should not be tied to exploration and mining. WP is part of Zambia. So the child in Nalolo should be availed by the Zambian govt education facilities that are the same as for the child in Senga Hill, Kafulafuta, Ikelenge, chasefu, mambilima etc. Governments build public infrastructure like schools, roads, hospitals etc for their citizens in the entire country. Discriminating against any region is what led to the South Sudans and Eriterians of Africa. And indeed the Barotse are already pissed off with a State that has not served them well as can be deduced from those pictures.

  71. Zambians quite waiting for MPs to save you and save yourselves. This school has a headmaster or mistress and they have been waiting for government to save them? C’mon …ine ninkana the attitude taken by people in the country. MPs are not going to save you…Do something about it. Get the local community involved…we are just too lazy…and I am really not feeling sorry for anyone at this point, just disappointment. I am willing to join in on helping the school though.

    • Couldn’t agree with you more. These people can make mud bricks which are fire burnt and make decent structures, collect grass and make thatched roofs or even better purchase iron sheets after selling their produce, livestock. Just pure laziness!

  72. @108. Saint. MPs are legislatures. They pass laws. It is the Executive the prepares Budgets and decides what to spend the public money on. They Execute! So please stop misdirecting yourself, the MP has no powers to order govt to build a school in Nalolo. He or she can only appeal to the government headed by the President. So stop misdirecting yourself!

  73. Guys, lets help these kids. Most of us live in places where there is abundance of so many things so my suggestion is that Ms Inonge gives us her email address so we can contact her and talk about how we can help or if anyone knows her office contact details can share with bloggers so we start helping. I see world changers coming from those areas of Zambia and kids should not be subjected to that kind of life. So please help us reach Ms Wina so we can help. Guys lets be practical. God bless.

  74. By the end of August,2013, Hon.Wina should undertake another tour of her constituency to show us what will have been done to redress the despicable state of infrastructure in the area.

  75. Who has been their representative since 1964?????????????

You need to know where these 46 years went. This area has had representation even for the last twenty years and was let to deteriorate to such an extent. This area has had representation even for the last twenty years and was let to deteriorate to such an extent.

What is required is urgent intervention as follows; do a BOQ of what is required procure in Lusaka do contracts for renovation/construction and begin, within a month we can be seeing something different, this is what separates men from boys.

  76. How does that qualify to be called a Basic School or a building? I can only imagine how conditions are during the rainy season and if school lessons do carry on. Looking at these photos does it sink in how we take things for granted..I can bet you these classrooms are filled to rafters with pupils just eager to fulfil to their dreams.
LT please give us more details on how we can get in touch with the madam MP; thank you for bringing this to light..more pictures of this nature and less of politicians in Lusaka.

  77. these people they vote for these politicians, hoping things would get better.. politicians go there and compaign and promise better living conditions for them. even when this MP visited and saw the situation nothing will be done and it will all end in pictures……demn!!! politicians

  78. This shocking situation is reality not just in the places captured in the pictures above but also in places which are a few kilometres away from our cities. Try to drive some few kilometres from New Kasama and you will in a place like that and you will wonder where we have been; almost half a century after independence!

  79. Dont blame the villagers for having so many children. What else are they going to do with their time? s.e.x is the only pleasure there.

  80. There is seems to be an element of laziness as well  with these villagers. They do not always have to wait for government to do everything. Surely can’t they make mud burnt bricks and build decent structures? Can’t they collect grass and make  nicely thatched roofs? Can’t they collectively sell their produce, contribute money and purchase blackboards and chalk and other simple school requirements?

  81. Unity is Paramount do not mislead people. There is Sichili and Mwandi in Nalolo Constituency other than the other ones you know. The same Mwandi name is there in Lukulu you fool.

  82. @Modesty Phiri & Bailon Simwanza – Maiteneke ,please dont cause us more pain,we have been already abused by your country.

  83. @mulondwe muzungu, dont be a fool, your government built schools, bridges, roads etc from tax payers money.dont insult us,we are already in pain.next time we go villages,we shall acquire very deadly witchcraft,we will vent our anger by causing alot of death around you so that you feel the pain too.we shall buy kaliloze guns.we shoot at the sun and you die after 3 minutes.

    • @ abbdalla silo mohammed do not get me wrong of course it is the government’s duty to provide a decent education and quality life for it’s citizens. It is a fundamental human right but my point is that the community around the school can do simple tasks and provide a short term solution rather than wait for the government to do everything. The same applies with the dirt and filth in most of these shanty compounds in cities. Do these people have to wait for the council to collect the garbage ? Of course not they can organize themselves and maintain a clean environment thereby avoiding unnecessary illnesses and hence saving their little money which would otherwise be used at the hospital.

  84. these people are lazy. if they really valued infrastracture development, they could have worked together and do better. i know its the responsibility of government but as is the case, they dont do nothing. do you just sit and cry…aint there hills in nalolo where people can team up and make bricks from soil, and see how they progress there after? if whites came empty handed, hey would do a better living than us, in the same area. the chinese and japanese work for the betterment of there lives, but ifwe we want someone else to come and do what we can ourselves do. if someone rally value education, they would team up and make this place a better place…shame on us zedians

    • Shut up , monkey! Don’t speak as if you did not attend govt built primary, secondary, college or university ! What cheek! You’re not even ashamed of yourself! Sataneo call!

  85. @Mulondwe Muzungu, you attended gov’t built schools which you and your relatives never built. Those kids are Zambians and are entitled to govt resources as anyone else. If it is not the responsibility of the Zambian to build public infrastructure in WP, then please do the honest thing and leave them alone to form their own country and government.

  86. All of us have talked about how pathetic the school looks like but apart from talking who has done anything concrete about it? Will somebody come up with a plan about how we can help that school? I would have started the initiative but for the fact that I am an economic refugee due to the mmd’s policies. Come on Zambians we can do it. Yes even those of us living in exile still consider ourselves as Zambians.

  87. This is the only of Zambia, that doesnt have any foreign investment to be taken there, apart from shoprite which is situated very far from town, it is actually near the graveward… These guys cant give land to foreign for development, go to mongu, kaoma town no Assian bussiness, no bazungu as for the non lozi tribes forget about getting land in that party of Zambia, because their Litunga wont dare to give it to you… Lozis, learn to accomodate other nations/tribes in your province if you want that piece of land to be develoed.

  88. THESE PICTURES ARE NOT IN TOWN.WE HAVE BETTER PLACES IN SENANGA.THESE PICTURES WERE TAKEN IN THE REMOTE AREAS OF SENANGA.THIS POTRAYS A BAD PICTURE OF MY TOWN.HON.INONGE WINA SHOULD HAVE SAID I VISTED RURAL SENANGA AND NOT SENANGA TOWN.BAD IMAGE MADAM

  89. Remote or not…. No child shud be in such a School….

The only thing I wud like to know is if this School is registered with examinations board and the likes???

    a very sad shameful sight!!!!

  90. Unbelievable captions, it feels like a horror movie shot in a war-torn village in the middle of nowhere. I nearly shed a tear, but where do I start with this?It should begin with strong principled leadership at govt ministries where stock of school frastructure, their suitability as learning facilities and the number of pupils using them should be decided. So much can be done to improve living conditions of both staff and pupils without breaking a bank.Political leadership suffer from lack of genuine commitment to such causes. Its a shame because we all know how to make things better but noone is willing to take the first step.

  91. pupils who attend such schools must be traumatised. Where do these MPs take the CDF? Is it for drilling boreholes at their farms or what? Politians are really gready?

  92. Agreed, this is pathetic but a similar scenario obtains in all rural Zambia,it is not just western province! So, this should not give LOzi bums more for their selfish and nauseating calls for cessation. The govt.should work to improve the lives of all Zambians!!

  93. Sometimes sitting back and not acting results in deterioration of infrastructure. Parents of the kids that attend the school should take charge and do what they can. Surely there must be a carpenter living near the school; s/he could make a blackboard and a few tables and chairs for students, teachers and the principal. The politicians just come to look at “problems” and go back and DO NOTHING. SHAME. Unfortunately that’s the Zambian work culture. Go see (motivated by allowances), listen to the few people that show up (seen to be concerned) then leave and write or verbally give a watered down report (if at all they get to it). NO FOLLOW-UP!!!! And mwen (my) people will be waiting in vainfor development.

  94. Oh, and to show gratitude for what the teachers are doing for the community, instead of sitting mwa ma lapa inge mu bi la e la fela, make some mud bricks and build some houses. Ma we, ma ndu a maluti, could fall if there was lots of rain and gushing winds. Show them cheap shots in Lusaka that you can do it. Mwen (my) people, you can do it. A mu ba bonise kuli mwa kona ku tusa zwe lo pili ya Bulozi bwa luna. Kozo ya Mulimu i be ni mina.

  95. Look at the quality of the sand! Wonderful! So clean! It would make very nice beach sand for Mushota and Nick from Scotland to soak up in the sun and get a nice tan. What do you say Mushota? Welcome to Barotseland! The land of beach quality, virgin sand!!!!!!

  96. Awe bane it’s not easy to be a leader in Zambia. I wonder why the system of governance is not inclusive. The system has further been compounded by poverty levels which are very disturbing. There is no fair distribution of resources in Zambia. AMA suite mulayafwala from Monday to Friday but no work output . Surely I can’t imagine kids being subjected to such learning environments…it’s appalling..very gross indeed..

  97. Unfortunately a lot of resources are being wasted on checking what HH is doing instead of on the problems shown in the pictures. Now I understand the cry for independence

  98. I sympathise with folks on that side of the Country; I’ve seen better places in war torn Sudan!! Let’s not be confrontational guys, let’s fight for development.

  99. This is so timeley because my sister Dr Mukatimui Kalima Munalula is doing a charity run in aid of Fundraising to build two classroom blocks at the same school. She has been preparing for this marathon since April of this year. She has previously raised funds in aid of Colon cancer at UTH last year (Video of the 5km run available on you tube by clicking her names and K15,000000.00 was raised). This was a valuable contribution to the Cancer Hospital and cancer sufferers. She is currently preparing for a 21 Km marathon scheduled for 21/10/2012 from Woodlands round about to Lilayi turn off. During my recent visit to Zambia, I assisted her in fundraising but are relying on others to join in the marathon and make their contributions directly to the Resident Doctors Association of Zambia.

  100. And the learned brothers and sisters are sitting in Pretoria waiting for GRZ to develop their area. This ia what Sitwala Imenda praises himself for puting good documents together as they plan the BRE.
