Acting President and Minister of Finance, Alexander Chikwanda says agriculture developed to its fullest potential will not only ensure national food security but create the much needed jobs and hard currency earnings through exports of food and other agro products.
Mr. Chikwanda said, during the state dinner held in honour of Princess Royal Princess Anne at Hotel Intercontinental yesterday that, agriculture will be a major thrust in order to eradicate poverty as Zambia strives for higher economic growth.
He noted that the Princess’ attendance of the Royal Agricultural Show Society of the Commonwealth held in Livingstone, on the day her arrival, is an illustration of the seriousness and commitment she gives in the execution of her noble tasks.
Mr. Chikwanda further said it is very important for the country that Princess Anne has nodded and encouraged the efforts in the agricultural sector, adding that the Princess will act as an ambassador to the investor community especially those that would have an inclination for large scale agriculture.
Meanwhile, Mr. Chikwanda observed that stimulating development in far flung rural areas is still a real challenge for government.
He noted that government has spent its inaugural year creating conditions to put the economy into top gear for the next year.
He said Her Royal Highness Princess Anne’s visit to Zambia is a testimony which underscores the cordial relations between the United Kingdom and Zambia.

I think that every thing has been said about hoe agriculture can create jobs add value and so on and so forth. For me and and the majority of Zambians, its not the words that matter it s whether we have the commitment to translate this rhetoric int action. Frankly people are tired with hot air being blown about this and that. The question is when are you going to implement some of these ideas? Lol albeit this guy failed as a farmer after retirement and has only been saved after being given  a ministerial position in government. The  fact of the matter is that most of these politicians can’t survive outside politics. There are exceptions of course such as George Mpompo. I was amazed at how much  work he is doing at his farm in Ndola rural.
