Rangers Dent Roan’s Survival Hopes

Share

Roan United suffered a set-back in their battle for survival after they lost 3-0 away to Nchanga Rangers in Saturday’s Faz Super Division Week 25 fixture at Nchanga Stadium in Chingola.

Rangers went ahead when skipper George Chilufya headed in a Aubrey Funga free kick just after 10 minutes.

The early goal seemed to have unsettled Roan whose midfield marshalled by Tom Bakala and Victor Kashitu failed to tick in the first half.

The Luanshya outfit were lucky to have gone into the half time break 1-nil down thanks to Rangers’ strikers Mathews Macha and Bornwell Mwape who had a bad opening 45 minutes.

Macha however increased Rangers’ lead in the 62nd minute scoring from a direct free kick awarded by Kitwe referee Gladys Lengwe just outside the box.

Bakala had a chance to reduce the deficit but his powerful shot hit the cross-bar in the 68th minute.

Funga completed the rout when he converted a 90th minute penalty for a clincher after Roan defender Ben Mwanza had handled inside the box.
