Zambia Breweries plc (ZB) has refuted reports that there is a shortage of beer in the country.
Zambia National Breweries Corporate Affairs Director Luke Njovu told ZANIS in a telephone interview today, that contrary to the reports, his company has spent K160 billion to locally source agricultural products such as barley, maize and sorghum.
He said ZB has established a deliberate local sourcing programme which deals with Small-Scale farmers and creates over 35, 000 jobs which were benefitting the rural communities.
He said the small scale farmers the company is working with produce sufficient Barley to meet its demand.
Mr. Njovu observed that as Zambia experiences growth in the economy, there is growth in the demand for the commodity and therefore, urged retailers to sale the commodity at the recommended price.
Mr. Njovu disclosed that the construction of another brewery on the Copperbelt has reached an advanced stage and will be completed sometime next month.
Mr. Njovu noted that ZB has recently rehabilitated a borehole in Palabana area which provides clean drinking water and caters for a population of about 2500 as part of its corporate social responsibility.
He further disclosed that 6 water tanks and about 3 three water hand pumps have been sunk in communities around the company such as Chazanga and George compound among others to avoid school going children from fetching water in far places but stay focused in school.
