Share

Defending FAZ Super Division champions Power Dynamos are firmly back in the title race after beating Zesco United today.

Power defeated Zesco 1-0 away at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium to move within one point of leader’s Zanaco.

A 57th minute goal from midfielder Emmanuel Chimpinde via a spectacular bicycle kick settled this hotly contested Copperbelt derby in Ndola.

However, Power were fortune to come away with the three points despite dominating Zesco led by Mukuka Mulenga who was outstanding in midfield for the visitors on Independence Day.

Just three minutes before Power took the lead, Zesco won a penalty after Billy Imonda clashed with Simon Silwimba in the box.

Referee Jan Sikazwe saw it otherwise and pointed to the spot.

Zesco goalkeeper Jacob Banda then attempted to do a Kennedy Mweene but ballooned the spot-kick.

Power now have to 53 points, one less than Zanaco with three games to go before the close of the 2012 season.

Zesco stand still in third place on 49 points.

Meanwhile, Power and Zanaco meet on Saturday in the semifinals of the 2012 Barclays cup at Woodlands Stadium in Lusaka.

Group A: South Africa, Cape Verde, Morocco, Angola.

Group B: Ghana, DR Congo, Niger, Mali.

Group C: Zambia, Burnkina Faso, Ethiopia, Nigeria.

Group D: Ivory Coast, Algeria, Tunisia, Togo.

  2. @Reter That is the easiest group Zambia could have wished for. I guess that’s what you get for being defending champs.

  3. Great draws! Let us practice shooting and don’t forget penalts too! We must beat Nigeria and then we will win the group. There must be no complacacy from the word go!

  4. so its nigeria group stage and expect ivory coast, algeria or tunisia in quarter finals..mouth watering. its a tough road to the finals no doubt about that but if we prepare well and not those weak friends with india..we should be ok..we don’t have go all the way to india to identify new players..that coach needs to watch players during league games..and please don’t take the same players to the africa cup… open the door for other players..am sure the country is not short of talent..we need strikers urgently otherwise we’ll be back after 3 games..burkina faso and ethiopia are equally thorns in the flesh and everyone is gunning for us..you saw what the cranes unleashed on us…all these teams have nothing to lose..so theywill play their lungs out to beat us.
