Foreign Affairs Minister Given Lubinda has phoned Israel based Chipolopolo midfielder William Njobvu to inquire about his safety following recent security concerns.

More than 150 people have died over the last week in an armed standoff between The State of Israel and Hamas militants in Gaza strip.

Njobvu plays for Israeli top flight side Hapoel Be’er Sheva a club based in Beersheba City that lies just West of the Gaza Strip.

The ex-Lusaka Dynamos player confirmed on his Facebook page that Lubinda telephoned him over his safety.

“Thank you to Honorable Given Lubinda for the important call of concern over my safety here in Israel, many thanks to the Zambian people for their prayers,” Njobvu posted on his Face book page.

“It is indeed a blessing to come from a country with such great leaders and great people.”

Njobvu is expected to be part of Herve Renard’s Chipolopolo team that goes into camp in South Africa just after Christmas ahead of the 2013 Africa Cup after missing this year’s tournament due to injury.

  1. Ehhh, am curious niw. So, if Lubinda has found out that William was not safe, what was government going to do? Just another publicity stunt from Given.

    I wasted reading this article……………….

    • Iwe it is not Lubinda saying he called William Ndhlovu, it is William Ndhlovu who wrote that he was phoned by Honorable Lubinda. Ichisungu bakalamba. Another thing you have to know is that if he was not safe they would have orgnaised his evacuation from the wartomne country. Wechipuba we.

    • you are a fool, UMUPONDO .What Lubinda did is very good sign of high concern for the GRZ.NO politics but service to Zambians abroad.

  2. Good boy.You have every reason to be thankful. Some players go into oblivion once they cross borders without anyone having a clue.It is indeed something to get a call from a top government official.

  3. Lubinda is one of the best brains in the PF govt…Foreign Affairs post fits him perfectly well. Stay out of harm’s way William Njovu….God bless!!

  4. Political mileage dull, dull what about other so many zambian’s in libya, but you single out one cos is a chipolopolo player, what’s the name of this minister again….

  5. number 7 WE ZAMBIANS when things went bad in libya the zambian government evacuated all the zambians registered under the embassy of zambia in libya and so did the evacuate 5 zambian students in tunisia when things went bad me being one of them so i think they are just concerned and not singling out.

  6. The Minister must check on all Zambians, Israelis are very racist. When things go bad they will turn on anyone with a different skin. Just ask those Ghanaians and other West Africans who were chased from Israel

  7. And when Gov’t says that all foreigners have to/must register with their respective Embassies Abroad, you are the same people who don’t see anything in what the Gov’t is trying to do. All you do is condemn and criticize even without putting things into retrospective. Let the minister do his job and those who have already registered with their Embassies will have some benefits of doing that. The problem with Zambians is that fyonse tufimwena kubukulu. So not much makes sense to us unless we see it working to other Foreigners, that’s when we are good at condemning our Gov’t. CHange your mind set pliz.

  8. What a waste of international phone credit; the player is based in Israel; the Jewish side which is protected by the Missile defence system iron dome…if this minister is concerned about welfare of overseas based Zambians he should calling the dozens of students who are being attacked by Neo-Nazis in Russia every month.

  9. Can the Foreign Minister concentrate on the safety of Zambians being murdered every day in Russia and Eastern Europe. The recent squabble between Isrealis and Hamas iun Gaza is a recent issue and I wonder why Lubinda wants to seek publicity by phoning up somebody who is in a relatively safe place. What is Lubinda doing about our sending of innocent young Zambian lives to study in Russia but only to be murdered there; what about sending our young people to eastern europe. If Lubinda wants to show that PF works he should openly address these issues, not phoning up a footballer who is safe under the armjs of Netanyahu. Otherwise if Lubinda can’t face Russians or east europeans to challenge them, then he is a useless coward. A spade is a spade, not a big spoon.

  10. It is the responsibility of any Zambian embassy to contact Zambians in their country of accredatation, not the minister of foreign affairs. Does Zambia have an embassy in Israel or based in another country but also accredited to Israel?

  11. When we had Sandy hurricane here, not even one staff at Zambian embassy made effort to find out about any Zambians there. When we called them that there a number of Zambians victims around New Jersey & New York, The answer was call Red Cross or Fima.
The only Zambians on earth are footballers, even Felix Katongo was evacuated in a chartered plane.
Anyway, mwaiche William you are humble & show off at same time, may Hamas stay away from you.

  12. ZAMBIA SHOULD BAN ZAMBIANS TO WORK IN RACIST ZIONIST ISRAEL.HOW CAN OUR CHIPOLOPOLO BE PLAYING FOR THESE ZIONIST BUTCHERS.ANY MONEY FROM ISRAELIS ARE BLOOD SOAKED WITH THE BLOOD OF POOR PALESTANIANS. PLZ WILLIAM COME BACK HOME AND DEVELOP SOCCOR IN ZAMBIA AND IN AFRICA

  13. No. 13, whats wrong with the minister getting concerned about the safety of our Zambian player based in a country where there’s no peace? Why do u condemn everything govt does? We Zambians must learn to conduct civilized politics – appreciate where things are okey and criticize where it’s due. Muleyako nakuma countries yambi so that mwabako exposed, not everytime ni criticism, those are bantustan politics.

  14. Good leadership, bravo Lubinda and PF. The MMD chaps didn’t contact us when we had the 2011 earthquake and tsunami here (Japan). As if that was not enough, they even lied that 8 Zambians in Japan were fine and yet there were more than 20 of us. SELENI TUBOMBEKO!

  15. It is a typical African behavior; I once worked in a neighboring country where what I said was never taken seriously unless it was repeated (or said similarly) by a white person. And this is the 21st Century! So my advice to fellow Zedians is, register yourself and stay in touch. It is a small price to pay. It is like paying a cent towards insurance that will cost a million when the right time calls…

  16. People, you really criticise just for the sake of it. The Minister of foreign Affairs was genuinely concerned and called William Njobvu, and probably many other Zambians resident in Israel to enquire about their safety following the fighting between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, and you have issues with that?????
As someone pointed out, Government evacuated Zambians from Libya, ask Felix Katongo and his wife, they were among the Zambians who were evacuated, sometimes we dont appreciate when a Government is working!!! Hon. Given Lubinda is one serious Government official I am proud to have voted for in Kabwata constituency and can give him even a higher vote in coming years!!!
