The Chipolopolo Soccer Fans Association and the Zambia Voluntary Soccer Fans Association have petitioned Caf over the omission of Zambia captain Chris Katongo from the 5-man short-list for the Africa footballer of the year 2012 award.
On Friday Caf announced that Didier Drogba, Yaya Toure, Alexander Song, Dede Ayew and Demba Ba would compete for the prestigious CAF African Football of the Year Award leaving out Christopher Katongo.
The two soccer fans groups presented their petition to Caf through Faz on Tuesday morning.
Faz general secretary George Kasengele received the petition at Football House in Lusaka and promised to forward it to Caf.
Speaking after presenting the petition, Chipolopolo Soccer Fan Association Chairperson Yotam Mwanza questioned the criteria CAF used when short listing the final five nominees for the 2012 Africa footballer of the year award.
Mwanza said some players who are among the five nominees do not deserve to be there.
“What did Alexander Song and Demba Ba achieve for them to be included on the 5-man short-list for the Africa footballer of the year 2012 award?” Mwanza said.
JUST LEAVE THEM- THEY ARE JEALOUS OF KATONGO BECAUSE THEY KNOW THAT HE WILL AUTOMATICALLY SCOOP THE PRICE. IT’S EVIDENT THAT KATONGO IS NOW THE BEST OF THEM.
Peter He is the obvious winner since he was top scorer and captain of the winning side at AFCON. They want to give the award to a West African
This is just unnecessary; why do you have to petition pointless irrelevant issues…we have to choose our battles very carefully given that we have AFCON in January or else, we will be in a similar position England is with FIFA current administration!!!
Why don’t you people have the same focus and energy when it comes to improving the league and club infrastructure!!
Stupid associations. It had to take Ghanian fans for their dickss to rise up and think of this move. You are such a bunch of iddiots and nicompoops. This chi yotam mwanza and this fake pastor deserve a stick in their soiled backsides.
All nominees seem to be from west africa.
Why?
Please,soccer fans get a life!!
very biased west Africans..thats why Zambia will get the trophy again..
Instead of talking about the omission of Zambia’s captain Chris Katongo ,ask yourself what did you do today which makes you a better person, what did you do today which will secure your kids’ future so that when you die they will have a head-start in life?
In life, we all have two choices,to be a winner or a loser, please don’t be the latter!!!
Cut the crap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
if we were all as selfish as you the world would come to a complete halt. It can never be just about you and your kids, those are just inner circles but we cannot ignore society, communities and global issues.
Cnt bliv alex song & dem ba ba made d list.. WHAT HAVE THEY WON SINCE THEY STARTED PLAYING FOOTBALL?? Stupid caf
but ba number 7 hahahaha good advise bad forum mate…..
Great point!! CAF have to reconsider Katongo’s exclusion!!!
Its not CAF that excluded Katongo but the coaches and possibly captains who voted. CAF already have the votes and know who has won. How we embarrass ourselves in this manner is shocking. The other thing to consider is how often people watch the Chinese league in Africa, almost zero if at all. And yet European league games are watched almost every day. Song was instrumental at Arsenal and BA was for Newcastle beginning of last season and has continued in this one (season) as well.
Muzo,
I appreciate your point but are these guys chosen because of their English league appearances or for playing for Africa? I would think it will be better if they could look at those that attended the Africa cup and judge from there tho limited. I must admitted i knew Chris wouldn’t make it because of the names he was competing with.
‘Song was instrumental at Arsenal” What did Arsenal win? And how was Song more instrumental than other African players elsewhere in a losing Team? You just show how Africans have been brainwashed into thinking what they are shown by Colonial Master’s Tv is the beginning and end of everything. English football is not the best there is. Football is all over the World . Open your Eyes and See!
Really!!! Lets get real Zambian soccer fans, do you watch football or you only do with your painted sunglasses. Both those players are way better than Katongo. I personally would pick them both on any given day than your katongo. Katongo is just an everage player who had 3 good games at AFCON 2012.
Shut Up Nigerian liar.
No African player deserved anything this year, we no longer watch good players. Competition was in the 90s (sorry you are too young). There were players Kalusha, Kanu, Okocha, Abedi Pele (father of Ayew), Samuel Eto, George Weah, Roger Miller, Hossan Hassan….
Where can you fit players like Katongo.
Those were great players indeed not only good at international level but also excellent at club..the great man himself George Weah representing Liberia and the black and red of AC Milian paid for his national team’s travel expenses and the team kit when his FA couldn’t afford it from his pocket. Augustine Azuka “Jay-Jay” Okocha is a Nigerian former footballer who played as a midfielder. He is known for his dazzling stepovers, skill, technique, and being ‘so good that they named him twice..what a marvel to watch. They are still talking about him in Bolton, England today.
Ati Christopher Katonga playing for a construction company in China.
Wake up!!lol
Why petition? I thought there was voting….
No sir there is no voting for CAF awards. They choose sports reporters and a few coaches to make their choice
Imwe please think, African footballer of the year award cannot be based on 5/6 games played in Gabon & Equatorial Guinea.
Think.. does the competition have judges who follow each African player wherever they are on the planet? It doesnt THe AFCON, World Cup, Olympics provide the stage for analysts to judge the stars.
Zambian fans in general and FAZ in particular will look stupid in the eyes of the footbal fraternity should this petition go ahead. Like someone has already stated it is not CAF which shortlisted those names but a panel of coaches. Chris Katongo may be a hard worker but he is not skillful. Zambian fans should not be blinded by mere blind support for an undeserving compatriot.
Sorry sir we are going ahead..You obviously have interests to protect
LET US LEARN TO GROW UP.WHY QUESTION C.A.F OVER KATONGO CHRIS? CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHO ADVISED C.A.F TO NOMINATE KATONGO FOR HIM TO BE ON THE SHORT LIST? DO YOU UNDERSTAND THE WORD “SHORT-LISTING”? WHEN YOU ARE SHORT-LISTED YOU MAY BE ELIMINATED AT A CERTAIN STAGE.IT IS APPARENT KATONGO WAS ELIMINATED.THERE IS A CRITERIA USED TO DO THESE THINGS. KALUSHA BWALYA KNOWS BETTER. ASK HIM. YOU SHOULDN’T BE TELLING C.A.F WHAT TO DO YOU DULL FELLOWS JUST BECAUSE OF CHRISTOPHER KATONGO.
IF YOU KNOW NOTHING OR HAVE LITTLE UNDERSTANDING, YOU DO WELL TO KEEP QUIET OR ELSE YOU END-UP EMBARRASSING YOWASELVES
Clearly you know little about football Read some of the blogs here for some free education
Hey guys lets go to BBC African football in numbers and vote for Chris Katongo for African Footballer of the year 2012. There are only 5 shortlisted names and results will be announced on Dec 13, 2012. Let us not allow our friends outvote our man! You can vote on BBC African Football page or send a text message The winner will be decided by African football fans, who have until 1830 GMT on Thursday, 13 December to vote for their choice.
“You can either vote via this page or by sending an SMS from your phone to +44 7786 20 50 75:
Text 1 for Demba Ba
Text 2 for Younes Belhanda
Text 3 for Didier Drogba
Text 4 for Christopher Katongo
Or Text 5 for Yaya Toure”
Do you guys remember Mamadou Gaye? It is such West African people that sit on the voting. We should just teach these west africans a lesson again this January.
I dont even know why Supersport invites an Ivorian supporter like him to masquerade as a soccer analyst. I click away from Supersport the moment he appears
For you to win the award you must shine both for your country and for your club although moreso for your country. Katongo did that. Demba did nothing at AFCON Song wasn’t even there. Its time Southern Africa broke away from CAF. Lets form our own soccer confederation because Africa cant be represented by one confederation when it has 54 countries.
#e21 Agree with you. Down with Hayatou! The Liberians have decided to do somethIng about this!
Lausanne, Switzerland – Liberian football leaders have asked sport’s highest court to overturn election rules which protect Confederation of African Football President Issa Hayatou from challenges.
Hayatou, a Fifa vice president, has led Caf since 1987 and steered through amendments in September blocking his likely strongest opponents from challenging him next year.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport says it has registered Liberia Football Association appeals against Caf statutes changes which take effect next Monday.
#17 He is not skilful?? Be serious. Those who are not skilful don’t find themselves as top scorers in any league-the man left South Africa halfway into the season and noone could top his goal tally. The man was top scorer at AFCON 2012. The man was sought after by European teams and has played for them Those who aren’t skilled wouldn’t play for any club in FAZ SAFA Bundesliga Denmark or in any pRofessional league. Learn to appreciate your own idols. You are waiting for a muzungu to tell you who is your hero and that’s when you will acknowledge him
Football awards are not petitioned but rewarded based on how people see u perform. Katongo has worked hard but may not be good enough not even to help his Chinese team survive relegation.
