Zambia Association of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (ZACCI) has awarded Airtel Zambia as the leading company in education support under the category of corporate social responsibility.
In a statement to ZANIS in Lusaka today, Airtel head of Corporate Communications and Government Relations Chabuka Kawesha said the award was presented at the ZICCA gala held at Pamodzi hotel last Friday.
Presenting the award, Minister of Commerce Trade and Industry Bob Sichinga said Airtel has been recognised for its sustainable support towards education under its corporate social responsibility.
Dr Sichinga said the award was presented as a gesture to show both government and private sector appreciation to the company’s commitment to vulnerable children in rural schools.
And Dr Kawesha thanked ZACCI for the recognition and award, emphasizing the importance of corporate support to the vulnerable society.
He said Airtel has so far assisted over 460 schools countrywide and pledged its support in line with the company’s corporate social responsibility project.

The one thing I like about this sector likes of Airtel (unlike the mining sector) represents in Africa and globally is that it is financed by the people themselves and not an NGO …private sector driven and not State Funded utility entirely in response to consumer demand rather than being planned by a gov’t system. And it works.

Fact is most of us Zambians are lazy. We would rather imbibe at KCC, East point, Chicagos, News, Vegas Lounge, Smugglers, Mike’s pub, Kilie -B, Tanzanite,the complex, Mwikalapatala etc than to sit and work. Guest houses are always full because chaps cant control their libido. Question then is when are we going to own companies like Airtel? when are we going to work?? Shame on most of us!!!!

Not just lazy but also irresponsible.A zambian will spend more time on distractions like bribe seeking,a lover or lazying around than work.They even live in filthy homes and spend most time chatting with friends.
