A critical shortage of mealie meal and cement has rocked Kabwe District, the Provincial Headquarters of Central Province.

ZANIS reports that long queues where noted at most retail shops and Millers premises for the commodities especially at National Milling Limited while at other retail shops such as Shoprite had nothing.

Meanwhile, unscrupulous entrepreneurs took advantage of the situation to buy in the bulk the commodities which they ,later sold at a profit to unsuspecting consumers.

A fleet of four by four vehicles such as Toyota Canters were found at the National Milling Business outlet in Kabwe stocking the commodity straight from the National Milling truck.

Individual customers were not accorded a chance to purchase the scarce commodity until after all the business agents had made their orders.

At railways Market, a few shops that had the Mealie-Meal in stock were selling at K68, 000 per 25KG bags while in Bwacha Mealie-meal the commodity was going at K70, 000 per 25KG bag.

Meanwhile, cement prices have also upped following a severe shortage .

Zambezi Portland is the only type of Cement available in town and it is only found at one outlet called Mapalo Enterprises.

A check by ZANIS this morning found the substance selling at K65, 000 per pocket.

  7. This is very embarrassing, whats really the point of having a Government that can’t even feed its citizens? Who does Mr Sata qualify then to be called a Head of State if his actions prove otherwise, How can we call him a statesman if his ways are divisive?
On TOP of his incompetency his also busy day and nights holding useless meeting as though his task is not enough.

  12. Zambia has never experienced any coups but i do not think dictator Sata and his minions will survive any coup that comes if he continues this dangerous path of taking Zambians backwards.

Honestly he can not survive this. No matter his IDI AMIN style of governance.

Every Zambians is against Sata and his PF. Zambians hates Sata with a great passion of his dictatorship
