FIRST Republican President Kenneth Kaunda has urged Zambia to support the Government of President Michael Sata because the current Head of State is a progressive and hard working leader.

And Dr Kaunda has dismissed assertions from some sections of society that he had re-joined active politics.

Speaking upon his arrival in Livingstone yesterday at Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula International Airport, Dr Kaunda said there was need for the people of Zambia to give President Sata support because he meant well for the country.

Dr Kaunda, who is currently in Livingstone on a holiday until Sunday, was received at the airport by Southern Province permanent secretary Chileshe Mulenga, Livingstone Mayor Aggrey Njekwa, Livingstone town clerk Vivian Chikoti and Airport manager Joseph Mumbi among others.

“I have no problems in supporting President Sata because I am supporting an innocent man. President Sata is looking after me well and I urge Zambians to give him more time to lead Zambia in a good way,” he said.

He said under the leadership of President Sata, Zambia would achieve great things as the country would change for the better.

Dr Kaunda said he was happy with the hard work of President Sata whom he said had continued from where he left when he was leading the country many years ago.

On claims that he had re-joined active politics, Dr Kaunda dismissed the assertions saying he retired from active politics many years ago.

He also said there was need to build the country and embrace the One Zambia One nation motto.

Dr Kaunda recalled that when late former President Frederick Chiluba took over from him, he wanted to destroy him by even putting into prison.

“When he put me in prison, I stopped eating drinking and shaving my hair until I was forced by the former Tanzania president Julius Nyerere who also said that he would stop eating drinking shaving until I started eating drinking and shaving,” he said.

Dr Kaunda said he fasted and shaved his hair because said he wanted to know why he was arrested and put in prison.

He remembered that after he was released from prison, he found prison officers at his home and a lot of armed police officers looking after his house for about six months.

And speaking at the same function, Dr Mulenga thanked Dr Kaunda for the contribution he made to develop the country.

He noted the education sector had made a lot of impact as a lot of people were during Dr Kaunda’s time as President.

Mr Njekwa also thanked Dr Kaunda for recognizing the chiefdom of Musokotwane as he was a grandchild of the chiefdom.

    • good comment #1. ignore your critics. Kaunda, Sata and Wynter make a winning team. specially when they are squeezing little boys like Given and GBM. Very inspiring to see him scream like a mad boy.

    • @ 2.3 Nostradamus,
When I responded to your question above I did so with utmost respect for you but now I deeply regret it. I hope you will try to be nice to others especially if they have not offended you in any way. I wish you had directed your insults to me and not my parents. I appreciate the fact that we were brought up and bred from diverse backgrounds and cultures.

    • kwena Nostradamus and Ricky Bobby below you have cracked my ribs! nalikwisa mailo? Distant drums forgive him, he is demented, dont you realise?

  1. We don’t need an old demented former president KK to tell us whether or not to support Sata. If Sata is looking after him well, good for him – but please KK don’t get involved because we know how many people you killed. You are the one who used to force us to chose between you and a snake at every presidential election….and now you want to have the audacity to tell us who to trust? Just shut up and grow old gracefully before we lose our temper. By the way, some of us lost our respect for you ong time ago, so your voice is infact very irritating to us right now.. We know you are supporting Sata because both you and Sata are scheming to have Panji Kaunda take over from Sata. Even in your old age you still continue your silly schemes. Shut up before we start insulting you.

    • NOSENSE! Can you name the people KK killed, as you can actually name those killed by Chiluba? If KK was a murderer, do you think people like Chiluba himself, Christon Tembo, who plotted to overthrow him, could have seen the light of day to wrestle power from his hands? But KK forgave them all. Do you think such characters could have survived in Zaire under Mobotu or in Idi Amin’s Uganda? You little mind! Be careful; if you insult KK, an old, innocent man, you curse yourself. Can you insult your father, no matter what wrong he has done? Scoundrel!

    • Nonsense, KK never asked us to choose between him and a snake – it was between him and a frog. Apologies to snakes.

  2. He’s still bitter that we kicked him out of plot one.Now his appearance on the scene has brought a curse. No fuel no mealie meal, deportations and more seriously, the army worms,so what’s he talking about.

  3. KK you are no longer a factor in Zambian politics, indeed your dementia is driving insane together with your devil Satana.Just shut up ,you hopeless man.Useless, mourn your wife instead of image building Satan.

  4. GO K.K. GO YOU ARE THE FATHER OF THE NATION AND A FREE ZAMBIAN ,YOU ARE ARE ON THE RIGHT PATH BY SUPPORTING BA SATA THE PRESIDENT OF REPUBLIC OF ZAMBIA. THOSE IN THE OPPOSITION WHO ARE BARKING JUST LET THEM DO SO AS THEY HAVE NOTHING TO OFFER TO THE ZAMBIAN PEOPLE. LONG LIVE OUR BELOVED K.K.AND LONG LIVE BA SATA.

  5. Its very good that Sata is looking after you KK, however he isn’t looking after the rest of us as well.He is arresting people, deporting people ,mismanaging resources and frankly we are beginning to think he doesn’t have any know how of running a country. He is also trying to destroy our hard fought multi party democracy. You see sir,you never groomed any leaders to take your place and we have suffered at the hand of thieves since you left office in 1991.Please enjoy Sata’s hospitality-quietly …us the younger generation are not impressed with your fellow freedom fighters and look forward to one day restoring Zambia’s glory for the betterment of ALL Zambians regardless of political affiliation, tribe or where their parents originally came from.

  6. KK is saying very strange things. It is better he just keeps quiet and enjoy whatever the President is feeding him with. We are not all eating with you, so don’t talk for us.

  7. But iwe chimudala u are confused how do u acuse chiluba alone when his right hand man was SATA himself when u where put in prison it was SATA who advised CHILUBA to cage u and the WINAS. it was SATA who destroyed UNIP by buying off SEBASTAIN ZULU who was GENERAL SECRETARY then. It was SATA who was dancing and singing in Parliament KAUNDA walala after they dribbled u together with CHILUBA when they barred u contesting the election by putting parentage clause in the Constitution, It SATA who introduced u as fokofoko in all the rallies in 1991. Am very disappointed with u old man may the devil bless u.

    • Hahahahahaha, yena iyi walasa. Let the old man rest and enjoy himself…..and not tell us all those rhetorics of how good sata is.

  8. Ba KK sure. Anyway, birds of a feather flock together. We thought you were innocent when you signed the document published by meembe before elections backing PF. Please leave Zambia alone. We are grateful you liberated us but that’s as far as you can be remembered for. The rest is insulting Zambians, ruling us with an iron fist and running Zambia to the ground, the like of what we are now experiencing. Is that what you call hard working? All the deception we have seen from PF seems to agree with your style. No wonder the people of Eastern Province cant trust you at all. You care about your pension which was actually implemented by FTJ and not yourself and are now praising Sata for it. What about the rest of Zambians? YOU JUST DON@T CARE ABOUT THEM. Learn from Nyerere.

  9. By the way, Sata is looking after you well using taxpayers` money and you are entitled to that through an ACT of Parliament. In short, you do not owe Sata anything whereas you owe everything to the same taxpayers whose feelings you are now gravely hurting. Please just keep quite on national issues – twapapata bashikulu.

    • That’s while he despises the person who put in place the very ACT of Parliament. We know that all our Presidents have had their faults including KK but he’s now leaving the respect we have given him. Maybe he’s jealous of RB.

  10. KK is a useless dictator that is why is supporting his fellow dictator. zambians are no longer of the old days when foo.ls like kaunda abused their rights. we will stamp out your dictator in making (sata). he will not last. these are not UNIP days. iwe chimudala watch the space

  11. This old man is just power hungry. He had ruled Zambia for a lifetime and destroyed it. And wanted to come back when FTJ took over. He even forgets it was Sata who persecuted him and for his own failure to behave and stay out of active politics. It’s such a big shame when Zambians have repeatedly forgotten the evils and insults of his rule. Zambians have always been ready to respect KK as a statesman but time and again he has thrown that respect to the ground and he’s doing it again. We could have had him sorting out the problem in the Eastern Province but we all know it was his trickery that led us into such problems in the first place. Even in old age we cant rest from his problems. I wish we had Mandela or Nyerere.

  12. M****** mwe, stop insulting the big man who is old enough to your father. Ba kolwe imwe, you are just bitter. Whether you like it or not, KK is the father of the Nation and MCS is your president ba konto imwe. You will not write history about Zambia without their names.

    • Yeah, like Germans are excited when historians presents them with characters like Hitler, Himmler, Joseph Mengele and other boys from hell, or Ugandans dancing when somebody mentions Idi Dada Amin. I am afraid when these potentates you are defending are mentioned in history books, it will be accompanied with a sense of revulsion by the many people who were abused by these same guys you are now worshiping.

  13. Looking after me well. Well, what can we say, supporting PF for selfish reasons. KK do not mislead the Zambian people. If you want to eat which we understand, just eat quietly. Do not cheat the Zambian people. Can you explain why Sata is stopping opposition having rallies when himself was free to hold rallies when he was in the opposition. Do not cheat us that Sata means well for Zambia just becuase you are eating.

  14. BUT IT MR. SATA WHO SAID KK BE LOCKED FOR TREASON WHICH HE NEVER COMMITED, AND IT IS THE SAME SATA THAT MADE MRS WINA THE LATE, LATE DEAN MUNGOMBA.
CAUSED THE DEMOTION OF GENERAL MIYANDA AS VICE PRESIDENT AND ALMOST THE FIRING OF RUPIAH BANDA AS VEEP AND SHIKAPWASHA AS HOME AFFAIRS MINISTER.
SATA IS FAR AHEAD AS HIS NICK NAME IS, AS WISE AS A SERPENT. PLEASE NEVER TRUST HIM. KK IS NOW A SLAVE OF SATA.

  15. Any organism with two heads, both functional at all times should be considered a monster!  I rest my case.

  16. Everything KK said was almost encouraging until he said “… Sata is innocent man”. An innocent man who just let his dog Kabimba stop the Opposition from holding a mere rally?

  17. Why are you bitter that KK is shorting the Govt of the day? He is an experienced leader he has seen progress. Even the international community is supporting the Govt f the day. I AGREE it’s just a matter of time we shall see Massive development.

    • Blessed are they who died without reaching such a state of disillusion. They went with our respect and we still respect them-hold them in high esteem.

  18. Dr Kaunda will not dance to the tune of anyone he is entitled to his own opinion and his rights.
That should not invite insults from anyone. Let us respect him.

    • Ricardo, what do you think of of the SF Fed’s analysis by Eric Falkenstein? Also, what exctlay are you predicting re QE3 at the next Fed meeting? An explicit reference to scope for further QE or an actual policy announcement? I would be surprised if they announced QE3 outright unless the November ISM Manufacturing PMI goes sub-50 (which it might). Would love to see a big rate cut cycle for reasons of personal self-interest. Would also be keen to see if Chris Joye sticks to his nudie run threat or weasels out of it.

  19. IF KK IS NOT A FACTOR WHY ARE TALKING ABOUT HIM? PEOPLE WHO MAKE NEWS DONT CARE ABOUT WHAT YOU SAY THEY KEEP DOING WHAT MAKES NEWS..LIKE KK

  20. KK you are being looked after well and that’s good for you being an old man. Now compare your being looked after to how we are being looked after. Not long ago money was easy to come by. Kapoko was stealing but he was giving and now Kabimba is stealing and he is claiming he has no money. During your time as president only you and a few chosen ones had money. is it what you want to bring back to our society?

  21. NOSENSE! All those insulting the old man are simply cursing themselves. Can you insult your father no matter what wrong he has done? Such an attitude is really depressing and indicative of the moral decay our country degenerated into during the Chiluba era! Others even have the audacity to call KK a killer. Can they name the people KK killed, as they can actually name those Chiluba killed? Little minds! Do they know that if KK was a killer, people like Chiluba and Christon Tembo, to mention a few, who plotted with imperialists to overthrow him, could not have seen the light of day to wrestle power from his hands? You think the spineless political demagogue that Chiluba was, and his likes, could have survived under Mobuto in Zaire or in Idi Amin’s Uganda? But KK forgave them all..

  22. Old man, your urging Zambians “to support the Government of President Michael Sata because the current Head of State is a progressive and hard working leader” is already a political statement (….not everyone would agree on that, especially the progressive part). So to claim in the same breath that you have withdrawn from active politics defies reason.

Moreover, if you were saying such things about anyone else in active politics (or, God forbid criticizing Mr. Sata!) your retirement benefits would be withdrawn with immediate effect! You already had your turn to ruin the nation (and did a very fine job of that by the way!) so the better thing now is to let others have their chance.

  23. KK is not in active politics but he is a partsan icon. He seems to be rceiving instructions from somewhere. How could he welcome people that have left one part to join another? We still want to respect him if he still wants to

  24. ‘President Sata is looking after ME well
Dr Kaunda said he was happy with the hard work of President Sata whom he said had continued from where he left when he was leading the country many years ago.’
This is very sad. To go back to where Kaunda stopped?

  25. “President Sata is looking after me well and I urge Zambians to give him more time to lead Zambia in a good way,”.
So this is why KK is supporting MCS.
“Dr Kaunda recalled that when late former President Frederick Chiluba took over from him, he wanted to destroy him by even putting into prison.”
KK is being hypocritical because these things are happening even now, e.g., detention of UPND Bauleni

  26. Most of us should recall rule under KK. He was a dictator,  much like our southern neighbour’s Zim. But we’ve forgotten.  His rule oversaw the grinding down of NCZ,  UBZ… KTZ etc while at the same time decaying our rights and self worth. It’s a miracle he finally allowed multiparty elections eventually. The current president is much like him;employing similar tactics whole overseeing an administration that has no definitive national plan except random and ill advised pronouncements that amount to misappropriation of funds creating the illusion of progress. Meanwhile education, health care and meaningful development suffer. Why should we be content with mediocrity? Because a relic says so?

    • You must have been young and probably never had the chance to ride in free school buses, board free public transport and get free education as most of us did. You need to read history to under what led to the downfall in our economy and the KK government. You need to read about the liberation of southern africa to understand how much the IMF, world bank and the west punished us for supporting our fellow africans. Just because you were born after things got bad is not reason to believe things were not better from 1964 – 1982′

    • Yes I did ride those buses, I minored in history and know what contributed to the demise of many companies in Zambia and yes I things were better before they got worse. When the politicians being more engrossed in the ‘joys’ of one party rule , they came to a certain realization, they could plunder and abuse under the watchful guidance of the” party and it’s gov’. Are you honestly trying to convince me that KK’s administration did not rape the economy? His rules started the decay we have in the politicians and the economy. Sata and the likes are erroneously repeating some of the very things he did. Besides, ‘freebies’ are not sustainable and are counterproductive. You sir, are part of the problem if you like freebies; self sufficiency is vital.

  27. Dr Kaunda said he was happy with the hard work of President Sata whom he said had continued from where he left when he was leading the country many years ago. Does KK even remember where he left off? Shortages of everything in Zambia that time – mealie meal, sugar, salt, cooking oil, fanta, beer, forex, bread, etc, the list is endless. Is this what he’s trying to remind us of? And is it the reason why we’re starting to have shortages of mealie meal again?

  28. Ba mudala ba KK, mwatampa kufulungana nomba ze biggie. How is Sata taking care of you well? That statement can mean a lot of things to many people. Ikalenifye tondolo boss, Zambians will never look at you any different. You are the father of our nation. Nomba ifi mwatampa, tepulogulamu iyo ba tata.

  29. “President Sata is looking after me well,”
In return, shikulu is there to receive defectors into PF. What does that make you, if not a carder.
    Shikulu, politics of the belly.
    That’s selfishness at its best.

  30. ´´continued from where he left when he was leading the country many years ago´´
Where Kaunda left?Lord,it´s because of Kaunda that Zambia is in oblivion, poor…
And the old man seems to forget how he locked up Zambians, tortured them on tramped up charges!

  31. To those who choose to show reverence to KK for his efforts that helped Zambia win independence, that’s well and good and we can all be thankful. However that does not in any way justify how he ruled. It does not make it okay that his rule was rife with abuse of authority,  dereliction of his duty to protect and enhance the rights of Zambians. It was such that most people felt they had traded in colonial rule for another self serving leadership in Kaunda and his one party style which lasted a 27. I respect that he’s involvement in the fight against AIDS is very important but I can not respect what he represents in regards to politics nor will I listen to those that support him or gain his political praise.

  32. Bana muselela kwa kaba ba Kaunda. Do you remember how the Nigerian press stripped you naked (politically) on your support for Biafra and Colonel Odumegu Emeka Ojukwu. You never learn oldman. Zimbabwe you chose Joshua Nkhomo and yet today you are very much sleepping with Angel Gabriel Mugabe against the suffering people of Zim. Angola you were on the wrong side but switched camp etc. etc…. When will you ever learn? The Nigerian Press finished you founding father of Zed. Major Wezi your late son, do you remember what he said about the current president?

  33. #49 Voodoo, I had not read your contribution before writing mine. You are right on. I am sure you lived the Kaunda days when he drunk cokes at state house with his family and made us drink urine in the name of guava drink from the Mufalari factory in Kitwe. Haa! Ba KK. We shall never forget. Fight against color-bar was good but not the suffering you put us through with your ignorant team. No wonder the children of Israel cried for Moses to take them back to Egypt and cruel Pharaoh. We were close to that under KK rule. Unfortunately we ended up with coneman Titus Mpundu alias Fredrick Chiluba.

    • Yes @Mbo Sam,  it’s tragic how soon some forget those days or are perhaps too forgiving and blinded to determine what an ideal leader should be. Some good came out of each president but that doesn’t dispel all the wrong they’ve done and continue to do. Some have the misguided notion that this is the character to aspire to as a leader.

    • Read about the liberation struggle to correct your memory. Being self sufficient by creating your own factories and manufacturing plants instead of importing the same stuff is/was one way of creating employment. And mind you it was zambians who were employed and not chinese labourers as the case was from 2008 – 2011.

    • So the take away is that the management was lacking and that lack of genuine commitment to develop, innovate, and become self sustaining was greatly aides by Kaunda’s failed policies and style of rule. He stifled intellectual as well as social progress much with the misguided notion that this was the best was to do about self rule. We have Zambians who grew up believing that freebies are progressive when they are not sustainable and only serve to create the illusion of progress; its no wonder those free bus rides ended. You ought to be in support of developing our sustainable development projects, creating, among other things, a skilled labour force that will address the tech or intellectual needs of the country and not advocating failed policy.

  34. President Sata is looking after me well and I urge Zambians to give him more time to lead Zambia in a good way,” he said.(KK)

  35. Bamudala nikuvisiyachee vima politiks. Most of young Zambians dont know what you did so let them be. If I were you I would do a Mandela-Go far from Lusaka and start living there quietly writing my memos. Otherwise bazaamba chabe umitukwana bafana aba

  36. Excellent memory KK, excellent! At least you remember the shortages and the political suppression you put us through and Michael Sata is bringing back on poor citizens who had long forgotten these trials and tribulations. It’s a good thing you’re the one reminding him otherwise one would be arrested or deported.

  37. This is why current constitution should be changed or amended on presidents and ex-presidents powers, to me KK is also a Zambian who should be allowed to participate freely in issues of national interest such politics and developmental matters, just like other nations do.

  38. SHUT UP!!!!  all of you Frustrated, impoverished,Ignorant,Foul mouthed ,Imbeciles.
LONG LIVE OUR GREAT FATHER OF OUR NATION  DR K.D KAUNDA

  39. It is understandable that the first Republican president of Zambia says what he says now(being looked after well). During the hardest times in Zambia the only place one could find a cool drink and mealie meal was state house and he (KK) was ok with it as the state was looking after him well.  Coming from a one party state (UNIP) any one with divergent views was regarded as an enemy of the state. It is also clear that the concept of plural politics has not fully been understood by the first republican president. Whereas in the one party state system the part and it’s Govt. were always right and they had the monopoly of knowledge, in plural politics checks and balances are meant to slow down the excesses that come with one party/dictator system.

  40. Back Bencher @ #3, fou tell YOUR dad to follow your mother first. And all of you seem to agree that KK is not a factor in Zambian politics, and yet he seems to be giving all of you some kind of diarrhoea; sleepless nights, hypertension – a condition generally associated with people with illusions of political grandeur and ambitions of getting into State House, lol!!!! KK and Sata bali peee!

  41. Leave Dr Kaunda alone for he did more during his presidency than all his 3 predecessors combined. For those that never had a chance to ride school buses to school, get a free education like it’s here in the USA until you get to college, those that never experienced mealie meal being brought from house to house, never knew what maggie cubes was, condensed milk, daily choc, welfare centers, one ngwee for ten baked scorns (fwebene ati aba banzi), where it was normal for relative to come from the village and stay as long as they could, you can yap and cry all you can, but just because you were unfortunate not to be born when Zambia as a country had abundant everything, is not reason to insult our founding father. Our forefathers sacrificed so that we could have a good country we have today.

  42. Kk should emulate RB. His involvement in politics will traumatise him. He should be grieving now instead of climbing planes in and out. What a disappointment. Birds of the same feathers flock together indeed.

  43. KEEGAN, I find your accusations are grossly very premitive and born out of hate, propanganda. When you are minister or vice president you always watched by the intelligence officers both in your political party and that of the state. To mention Sata for Chiluba’s power to hire and sack is beyond dreaming.

  44. NUMBER 2 AND 3 MULEKWATAKO MUCHINSHI. KK IS A RESPECTABLE MAN TO REFER TO LIKE YOU ARE DOING. MOST OF YOU GUYS WHO LIVE IN US AND BRITAIN HAVE COMPLETELY LOST MANNERS. AT TIMES YOU SHOULD BE GOING BACK TO TOP-UP YOUR MORALS. THE MORE YOU LIVE IN THESE COUNTRIES WITHOUT VISITING MORALLY RICH COUNTRIES THE MORE YOUR HEADS GET ROTTEN MORALLY.

    • So by your statement, Zambia is among these morally rich countries? What most of us have acquired while living or visiting various countries are numerous but to mention a few we know we have right to express ourselves, a right to choose how we ought to be ruled as per the social compact we have in our country of birth were we have our rights, our aspirations and determinations enshrined in our constitution which needs work but more importantly a team (team because we need to have a common goal) leaders that protect and enhance its make up for the betterment of its citizens. Of course there’s some whose only goal is to insult and not actually make positive contributions whether. Democracy is an all inclusive endeavour, EVERYONE has a part to play.

  45. IT IS UNFORTUNATE THAT I HAVE NOT READ ANY OBJECTIVE MIND ESPECIALLY THESE THAT THINK INSULTS WILL VOTE FOR THEM.4 FOOLS 2 EVEN FIND ZAMBIA AS A PEACEFUL COUNTRY HE HAD 2 DO WHAT HE DID. WHAT MADE HIM BRING ONE PARTY STATE? GO,GO SATA!

  46. Ba wiso nga chipuba eeh chipuba, and he will foever be ichipuba. KK once said even if you have seven degrees if you are a fool you are still a fool, so he is A FOOLISH MAN FOR THAT MATTER. YES HE IS THE father of this nation but at the same time he is a FOOL. A sichopeti I.D.I.O.T.

  47. Ba wiso nga chipuba eeh chipuba, and he will foever be ichipuba. KK once said even if you have seven degrees if you are a F O O L you are still a F.O.O.L, so he is A FOOLISH MAN FOR THAT MATTER. YES HE IS THE father of this nation but at the same time he is a F.O.O.L. A sichopeti I.D.I.O.T.

  48. If Zambians had a long memory, KK would be living in exile today. Indeed KK was right to say Zambians are stupit *****s. KK ruled Zambia from prosperity into poverty, imprisoned hundreds of Zambians just for pointing out that he was taking the country into wrong direction. Even killed a few Zambians. And what does he get today from Zambians? Respect and looking after. Zambians we deserve  who we are, stupit *****s.

  49. After all is said and insulted i just pich in this small one, it goes like this…….., KK? WAMUJAJAJA, KK WAMU YAYAYAYA, ONE ZAMBIA ONE NATION ONE NATION ONE LEADER AND THAT LEADER? DOCTOR KAUNDA………..? and so went our parents worship our first president, kwena our elders, awe i get shocked when i remember this line, i was just a teen then but i thought they were fools. Hope we are not making the same mishtake!
