Power Dynamos chairman Owen Silavwe has revealed that the club will early next year introduce a cup competition to honour members of the popular Power 90 squad.
Silavwe said the pre-season tournament to be called Power 90 cup will be staged in early 2013.
He said Power has realised the need to honour ex players.
“We will be honouring our own heroes. We thought of coming up with a pre-season tournament where we should be able to invite some of the top teams in Zambia,” he said.
“We should be able to start the tournament before the 2013 season kicks off,” Silvwe added.
The 1990 Power team that won almost all silverware on the local front that year included the late Wisdom Chansa and Webby Chilufya plus Linos Makwaza among others.
This is great news to me because i always day dream how much i enjoyed watching power “90” from 1990 to 1992. That was football with a class of touch.
good idea, Mr Silavwe, Mufulira ,kankoyo production at work.
keep it up. I will never be disappointed with Kankoyo products,
they think very Hard, to make our country prosper.
Brilliant thinking
Power 90 the baby born with teeth was a team and half!I leaving in Nkana village by then,I was at most of the trainings sessions at Arthur Devis stadium. after the sessions I used to chat at length either with the coach Freddy Mwila “Mister cool ” . or with Alex computer Chola, Peter “the black”Kaumba :abo baleya” . I had easy access to all the players and they nicknamed me Papa!
Mr Walasa you make me sick. What about Kankoyo and Ndeke village or Arthur Davies?Good Owen came from there thats all.Nowonder we didnt win the league!Viva power viva.
Good initiative and first of its kind on the local front
Ok, they were a good team and won the Nelson Mandela cup. they could have easily defended the cup but they decided to go on strike and were therefore expelled from the tournament. whilst honoring them , Power Dynamos management should apologize for mishandling this issue.
