Zambia’s run of three successive defeats ended today with a draw against nemesis Morocco.
The Atlas Lions, who have not lost to Zambia since 1993, held the African champions to a scoreless draw at Rand Stadium in Johannesburg.
Tuesdays result comes on the back on defeats to Angola on January 5 that they lost 2-0 and a 1-0 loss away to Tanzania on December 22.
Prior to that, Zambia went down 2-1 away to Saudi Arabia on December 5.
Zambia will face Norway in Ndola on January 12 in their penultimate buildup game before flying back to South Africa the following day to their Group C base in Nelspruit.
Starting lineups:
Zambia: Kennedy Mweene, Chisamba Lungu, Hichani Himoonde, Davies Nkausu, Jacob Mulenga, Isaac Chansa, Chris Katongo, Stoppila Sunzu, Rainford Kalaba, Emmanuel Mbola, Nathan Sinkala
Morocco:Lamyaghri, Benatia, El Adoua, Chakir, El Kaoutari, Hermach, El Agmadi, belhanda, Amrabat, Assaidi, Al Arabi
good results nice strategy make your oponents underate u.
But a goal less draw isn’t very impressive a 2 -2 would ve been better even a 3 -3 but a goal less draw seems like both teams run out of ideas. And it also means that had the opponents scored just a goal it would ve been another 1 -0 loss
A 2-2 or 3-3 result entails a porous defence system. A scoreless result keeps others wondering for the reason that they cant figure us out. This was the best score Zambia could have yielded besides a win.
A 0-0 result when you lost the last game 2-0 and the other 1-0 means you have a blunt striking force. In a game you have to score goals
THE COACH SHOULD KEEP ON FINE TUNNING THE TEAM AND DELIVERY DEVASTATING PUNCHES IN THE GRAND FINALE. IN THE INTERMEDIATE STAGES, FIRE ONE OR TWO SUPER BULLETS – JUST ENOUGH TO KNOCK OUT YOUR OPPONENTS OUT OF YOUR WAY. STRATEGY: RESERVE AMMUNITION FOR THE REAL THING – WE DO NOT WANT TO GO TO PENALTY SHOOT-OUT THIS TIME.
I like that.
The starting point to our ways as champs come saturday with Norway we will shoot them then lastly Namibia then all will be set for 21st when we will kill Ethiopia.
Norway are not to be underestimated. They always give teams like england a beating. I hope the heat and humidity will get to them in Zambia, otherwise we don’t want our boys to be humiliated in their final friendly and get demotivated.
Happy with the result, especially that Morroco is no small team. The coach should go ahead and fine tune the final squad. it could be nice to go past the group stages by accumulating the needed six points. Wish the team and the coaching staff the very best.
Ukulila ku mushi nako sometimes? How can you think anything like that, starting from nicknaming yourself Godfrey Chitalu, why didn’t use “Ucar” instead?
Not his nickname,. I know him from way back like over twenty years and that has always being his name.
Even after winning the Orange Cup of Nations Tournament, you must keep the spirit even higher…. because you are that Champions and we must hold onto that dignity which is our right by every means. It should not be looked down upon. Of all the nations and talent that is in the continent …. be not afraid you are no longer new to the game. GO GO GUYS SPEED AS A BULLET – our pride is not only ours but in the whole SADC region expect our very best in this year’s tournament !!!!
Prove this time around that you deserve to be Africa’s Champions !!! hardwork and dedication and skill… we give our support from Nairobi !
Good guys. Together we stand. “One Zambia One Nation”.
We should not get excited about draw. Morocco is building a team just like us. They have new faces in their team.
@Newnyele, we are not building, we are fine tuning. Sorry about the misplaced contibution. Remember we still champions till that day
That’s better….now looking forward to the Norway game which is ranked [24] over the weekend.Just take it seriously!!
Godfrey Chitalu@5 Morocco are a small team. Those youngsters have scant experience compared to Zambia. I don’t see them winning any game at AFCON. Chipolopolo shud have buried them. Our scoring boots have gone to sleep and renard should make that his homework
I hope the Zedian players start scoring.
How can they score with Nathan Sinkala as a lone striker?
Practice makes perfect and this draw will help the team build the much needed confidence as they go into the next game with norway. No one is perfect..Even great teams have choked and failed to deliver. Ivory coast a good example lost the finals. You don’t need reminding on that, cameroun, egypt where are they? So zambia is no different but better off because the losses were in practice matches an early eye opener and am sure they are trying very hard to improve. I think we have a decent team who can take on any team and they will be stronger than in the 2012 finals. Any team taking on zambia now know that they are in for a fight to win possession of the ball and that will be our biggest weapon. Our opponents running their beaks now.. talking us down know they need to step up to beat us.
@ Makaveli thanks bro for support us. Go zambia Go.
Karibu !!! what we need is genuine competition of real football like Zambia’s.
Thanks to kalaba I know we would have lost even this one
I have just realised that most bloggers at LT are not soccer fans. @Nostradamus, How can you think that Nathan Sinkala is a striker? Mayee!!!!!
@HHH@upnd, what has Kalaba got to do with Zambia losing or winning? When Angola butchered Zambia last saturday, Kalaba was in the squad. Guys do some research before you post your comments.
Watched Bafana lose to Norway last night, the boys need to be serious with Norway. They defend very well and are quick on the ball, we dont want to lose at Levy Mwanawasa stadium. Lets beat them even by 2-1… Bafana were humbled…. Good luck chipolopolo
This result is relatively ok, considering that Morocco is a North Africa team and we have always struggled with North Africans, you just have to remember that we played Tunisia three times last year and lost one and drew two, their defences are usually very mean. Although Morocco is just rebuilding, I am not too depressed over the result, especially as it indicates our own defence came to the Party.
I also watched Norway beat Bafana Bafana 1:0 last night and indeed they appeared hard working and very organised, fast on the ball and defending as a team. However, coming from wintry Norway and to play almost at noon in Ndola, I dont see them troubling our team, if we are prepared. They played at night in Cape Town and that suited them well.
We are getting there and very soon, it will…
#8 So Zambia iz still building a team? Wonder how long it will take to “reach” there…
IN WATCHED BAFANABAFANA GO DOWN TO NORWAY DONT UNDERATE THEM AND ALL THE BEST GUYS ITS POSSIBLE U CAN RETURN THE TITLE
Poor English, retain not return naimwe
Imwe ba Zambia uko kulepaula amasumbu ka. You should attack aggressively when in the 18. You should also shoot when in the 18 so that the keeper is kept on his toes. Shoot and shoot on the goal mouth.
Peace and Prosperity to Mother Zambia.
The Norway team comprising young home-bsed players beat South Africa last night. Only the heat will work against the Norway team in Zambia otherwise they are a good team. Their Coach is also very frank and pointed out the weaknesses of the South African team. I hope he will do the same about the Zambian team.
We have to give credit where its due. A draw is better than losing. Zambia’s performance has improved and the guys have matured. We just have to support them and build our faith in them. They will definitely defend the championship because the entire Africa and the world in general are perceiving us as underdogs. Positive critics are necessary for super refining Our National Team. Africa kuichaila Zambia tulibakali
You are right And This won’t be a training match like the Angola game so We must getd a respectable ranking from Ndola The heat will work to our advantage Zambia 3 Norway 0
Nostradamus- This is Godfrey Chitalu’s real name. I have known this guy for long. I first met him in Chipata and interviewed him in my office. He used to work for an NGO-either Care International or Africare. So it is not a nickname at all. Besides, the ID you see here is his actual ID.
Sad that most people calling themselves soccer fans have no idea how players are line up. Players are lined up according to the number of the jersey a player wears. In the case of Nathan Sinkala, he wears jersey 19, therefore Chisamba Lungu comes second on the line up because he wears jersey 3. Please don’t call your self soccer fan if you are not able to understand basic rules of football period.
Ya! ya! ya! ya! ya !ya! nikwisa mwafumya iyi reasoning whatever ‘lined up” is supposed to mean? These are basic rules of football? Ki ki ki ki ki ki ki!
Zambia is doing great with the preparation so far.
