2013 Group C Update: Cape Verde Hold Nigeria

Share

Nigeria wrapped up their training camp in Portugal with a draw against fellow 2013 finalist Cape Verde on Tuesday night.

The two-time African champions were held to a 0-0 draw by the Africa Cup debutants in a game of two halves.

Cape Verde were the better side in the first half in which Nigeria struggled to find rhythm and saw left-back and captain Joseph Yobo having a torrid time against the opposing attack.

Chelsea striker Victor Moses was lucky not to have been sent off after getting away with just a yellow card in the 45th minute after deliberately stomping on Cape Verde defender Fernando Varela.

Meanwhile, the introduction of the impressive right-back Kenneth Omeruo and Nosakhare Igiebor for Efe Ambrose and Moses respectively turned Nigeria’s fortunes after the break.

Ahmed Musa and Mikel Obi brought the best out of Cape Verde goalkeepers Fock and Vozinha respectively as fatigue set in for the tournament debutants after the hour mark.

Meanwhile in other Group C news, Ethiopia host Tanzania on Friday in their final friendly game before heading to South Africa on Monday.

Burkina Faso face Niger on the same date in Nelspruit less than 48 hours after they arrived in South Africa while Zambia host Norway on Saturday in Ndola.

Both Zambia and Norway will land on the same flight from Johannesburg on Friday at lunchtime.

  1. Ba LT, is this the time you have to report this? This outdated news.
Anyway, I watchd this match last night. Cape Verde are very dangerous and good team. I feel for Bafana Bafana at AFCON 2013. I thought this Cape Verde would be the wipping boys of group A consisting of Bafana, Angola and Morocco. But alas, I was mistaking. If not careful, Bafana will pack their bags in the first round.

    • i agree with you EX-PF bafana are not using their chances, they should remember that they are playing a tournament…. BAFANA WILL PACK THEIR BAGS IN THE FIRST ROUND……

  2. I too watched the game upto half time, Cape Verde are a good side and will shock many at AFCON. I have watched Nigeria twice and I feel its better to finish them in the first half if we have to beat them. We just need to be strong coz Nigeria is beatable

  3. Kodi imwe ba LT what’s this recent fascination you have with moderating bloggings. In any case most of the blogging we see here is already slanderous so what are you moderating? R U checking our PC identities for passing on to Red Brick?

  4. Nigeria is beatable. They are just boastful. Our boys should just keep it tight at the back and make the Nigerians run a lot in the South African summer heat and most of those Europe-based Nigerian players will not cope. The Zambian fitness coach must prepare the boys thoroughly well.

  5. Cape Verde Island players are not just fast and skillful but are a very organised lot who make Nigeria look amaturish and Stephen Keshi bewildered. I watched first half as well and I have no doubt South Africa will have a difficult openning game, they need to be strong!!!

We can and should beat Ngeria to add to Senegal, Ghana, Ivory Coast so that we ensure we build our supremacy and silence supersport reluctant critics!!!

  6. Bukinafaso beat TANZANIA 2-0 while zambia was beaten by Tanzania 1-0 , so what will be the result between zambia and burkinabes???

    • At Malinso, we dont know what the result will be because the match hasnt been played yet. I know what your brain is thinking. Just bcause BF beat TZ and TZ beat Zed doesnt automatically mean BF will beat Zed. Football is very dynamic brother.

    • That’s not Sportsmanship. We have beaten teams full of english premier league stars without injuring them. Don’t be scared of someone just because u v seen him on TV. Niye ma complex ayo

  7. what do you mean by injure him? that’s very satanic. be modern.football is about fair play and enjoyment and not about terrorism. remember ! he is your brother.

  8. I am not being sentimental my brodas in Zambia,i dont believe Zambia can beat Nigeria remember d bulk of boys dat drew wit Catalona are home based

  9. We are not going for a rugby but football. Therefore we expect to watch football at its best in africa and not to injuire one another. We want to watch hipolopolo or is it sipolopolo boys display more advanced tactics than Nigeria.Keshi is fully aware of the mamoth task a head of him. Just wait and see what happens.

  10. Great goods from you, man. I’ve understand your stuff previous to and you are just extremely excellent.
