Labour and Social Security Deputy Minister, Rayford Mbulu has given a three week ultimatum to Fine Steel Manufacturing Company Limited of Kabwe in which it should provide ideal sanitary conditions, safety measures and equipment for the workers or else face government’s wrath.

Mr Mbulu said this when he took a surprise visit on some companies in Kabwe’s mine area which included San He (Zambia) Limited and ZALCO Recycling Company Limited yesterday.

The Deputy Labour Minister gave this order after he discovered that the company apparently failed to provide ideal sanitary conditions, safety measures and equipment for its workers at the plant.

Mr Mbulu gave the ultimatum yesterday when he toured the company where he found workers going about their duties without proper safety gear while their toilets and bathrooms are in a deplorable state.

He said government would not accept such conditions to prevail in companies because they become a risk to workers thereby endangering their lives.

The irate minister said government wants to pragmatically create a conducive and sustainable environment for as many investors as possible however it should also be investors’ prime responsibility to adhere to the country’s Labour Laws.

Other companies Mr Mbulu toured included San He (Zambia) Limited and ZALCO
Recycling Company Limited where he found acceptable conditions.

  2. i have noticed a trend especially by these multinational companies that operate in Zambia that they would rather fool the public by donating money to charities and sponsoring a football team at the expense of the workers.

some of these companies are so powerful that the Government has no say but to just to end up receiving bribes due to the money their given to run their parties.

Management ,Human Resources department and Trade Unions have aligned their pockets with company owners leaving the employees to suffer, its a shame and its hard out their with no one to stand up for the employees.

look at KCM they can get away with anything.

  3. good move mr mbulu…now what we need are more surprised visits not his thing where u inform the compant that u are going to inspect them giving them time to prepare things for that one day only……….
