THE Ngoni Royal Establishment of Zambia and Malawi have resolved that Nc’wala traditional ceremony would go ahead on 23rd February this year as planned.
Paramount Chief Mpezeni of the Ngoni Speaking people said during a press briefing held at Luangwa Lodge in Chipata yesterday that despite the death of Paramount Chief Mbelwa of the Ngoni people of Mzimba district in Malawi, the traditional ceremony would go ahead as planned at Mtenguleni in Chipata.
The paramount chief said through Chief Madzimawe that the traditional ceremony would not be cancelled or postponed but to go ahead.
“We have resolved that the ceremony should continue as planned and the activities will start on 20th February and come to climax on 23rd February, “Chief Mpezeni said.
He explained that he received the untimely death of his brother on Wednesday from Malawi Ngoni chiefs who conveyed the message.
He said the only difference was that the traditional ceremony would be dedicated to honour his young late brother who would be put to rest tomorrow in Mzimba District in Malawi.
He said about four traditional leaders, Impis, indunas and others would accompany him for the burial ceremony of Paramount Chief Mbelwa.
Chief Mpezeni called for unity among the people during the trying moment.
He said his brother should be mourned in a dignified way adding that the sponsors of the traditional ceremony should go ahead in giving the sponsorship towards this year’s ceremony.
Chief Mpezeni also said he was deeply saddened with the death of over 50 people in Chibombo in Central province.
He said he was also saddened with the death of one person in the road accident that occurred at Kafunkha area in Katete District.
He appealed to the authorities to curb the increased in the number of accidents in the country.
The press briefing was attended by Senior Chief Nzamane, Chiefs , Mishoro, Chinyaku, Mnukwa, Nc’wala National Organising Committee Noel Nkoma and his vice Bright Ngoma.
The king of the Ngonis has spoken and so it shall be.
How sad that these ancient ceremonies are celebrated.
