Energy Permanent Secretary, George Zulu says ZESCO should improve communication to members of the public over power outages.
Mr Zulu says the power utility has not performed well in publicizing the schedule for load shedding to clients.
Mr Zulu was speaking in an interview with ZNBC news in Lusaka.
He says the public will appreciate the challenges ZESCO is facing if there is increased sensitization and consistency in communication.
Mr Zulu says the ministry is however fully aware of the challenges ZESCO is facing and the initiatives it has put in place to address them.
One of the generators at Kafue Gorge power station developed a fault recently causing widespread electricity load-shedding.
Very true.I remember while growing up how often my father used to make calls to Zesco trying to find out the reason for the power failure and in most cases the people from the fault section never even used to have a clue that there was a power failure in our area.I wonder if it was pretence on their part or they just didn’t care.
The poor communications is not exclusive to ZESCO alone but cuts across the entire nation. Be it the head of state, ministers, PS’, MPs councillors, etc
There is simply no respect to communicate effectively with the citizens and the poor citizens just coil in the corner and complain.
Talking about ZESCO, there is a schedule for load shedding, but they don’t respect it as they cut off power as and when they want.
Look at ZNBC, despite charging viewers, the quality of service is pathetic and they don’t care improving their service delivery.
We must change our attitude towards our work culture. If we adopted even 10% of the work attitude that obtains in the western world, our country will be headed in the right direction.
The onus is on us
This failure must be attributed squarely on the shoulders of Cyprian Chitundu. He used to undermine past MDs above him and now he’s failed abysmally. No sacred cows, he must go whether he belongs to the “untouchable elite”. Let him go. Let competent people run ZESCO. There are there within the corporation I suppose

as much as we appreciate the fact that this problem as just been inherited from the previous inept govt., am sure that all zambians expect this pf govt. to sort out this nonsense once and for all.

I think zambia will only improve after we put an economic manager in state office otherwise sata has brot misery to the suffering zambians. The man is clueless. The man has brot the worst loading in zambia, the man has brot perpetual food shortages, the man has brot a free falling kwacha, the man has brot unnecessary bye elections, the man has the biggest number of d/minister, the man has created the biggest number of districts ever seen in the world.

Public relations and customer service is a big problem in Zambia…even young and imature George Chellah does not know what his job entails!!

That is the big problem we have in Zambia with this PF run govt.
The time PF & Sata realize the importance of Customer service relationship, they will respond to our needs & get back our trust.
But at the moment every PF in foreign missions are using govt meager resources/internet/computers just to protect Sata, George Chellah & PF abuses even without realizing that had Sata, George Chellah & PF govt tackled the root cause of the complaint, they will get back the support they need from Zambians.
But currently they are all stoking up the anger of Zambians against Sata & PF which they will never get back!
