  1. It still amazes me that those Hiace mini buses are still allowed to travel such a long distance with so many people who can barely move their legs. Those should be banned completely, they are a death trap. These accidents are just a sign that there is nothing being done to prevent them. It hurts to lose so many lives in road accidents. MTSRIP!

    • Mudala when it is your day to go it doesn`t matter whether you are sitting in a wheelbarrow, ichibala,Hiace or macoporo bus.Death will always knock, but again those Hiace minibuses should just be for local routes, i agree on that.High time they changed the law.

    • Statistically, it may help reduce the chances of such accidents. Even the way these drivers drive leaves much to be desired. They are always in a hurry to put in as many trips as possible.

My condolences to the victims’ families.

    • All public service vehicles, commuter mini buses, inter – provincial buses, cargo trucks must have compulsory 80km/hr speed limiters fitted. People must rather start off early than rush! RTSA is to blame, lack of ROAD SAFETY MECHANISMS i.e enforcement of speed limits! I wish citizens will join me in suing RTSA for endangering the lives of Zambians, causing deaths due to negligence, and overall institutional impotence!

    • I 100% concur with you.Long distances require big buses.Even RATSA should increase thier patrols.

  2. OMG ! This is very sad.Looks like Chibombo is becoming notorious when it comes to accidents.May the soul of the victims rest in peace and a quick recovery to the injured.

    • @mo taim,,..the PF government should have done something on that road from lusaka to kabwe.. even just putting road blocks,,or speed traps, these deaths could have been avoided. The PF should be pro active on some issues at least, to show people they are different from MMD

    • Maybe humps and speed traps will do otherwise all these accidents are being caused by human error and unforeseen circumstances .Last time(post bus) it was that Muzungu who contributed through his careless overtaking. This time it is a tyre burst.Quite sad.

    • @mo taim.. your government should surely do something.. even if its minimial, we cant sit back and let human error/s continue to claims lives like this.
Good reminder, Post bus accident,, that was caused by another muzungu opusa.. you are right!

    • its so sad. cars should be properly inspected by RTSA b4 taking on, but the question one could ask, where were the Police and RTSA? coz for it to reach chibombo, it had passed prospect check point and chibombo check point?

    • @mo taim… does it mean that you are a racist???, you like insulting??, you have no respect`??… i note you comment above,
In fear of being mistaken for a racist like you i won`t quote your quote!!!!

  3. Thats very sad. My condolences. The road (area) needs some dedication to God. These are not normal accidents but circrifices.

    • It’s lack of commitment/investment and bad design. If it were a dual carriage way as Kibinda waba Kabwa argues, the losses wouldn’t have been so much. Let’s not be looking to the heavens everytime something happens that we could have avoided or at least reduced it’s severity by investment in our infrastructure and facilities.

      Thank you!

    • Let’s all stand against this evil wind that is blowing in our society called satanism. As God – fearing people we can’t keep losing lives just like that. We need to start giving dangerous prayers…..the devil is a liar!!

  4. Its to be expected. if it was a dual carriage way he could have hit the crash barrier. Are you people surprised? I find it amazing that you are surprised. These accidents have been confirming that poor investment in infrastructure is a costly business. It costs lives and more lives.

    • @Kibinda waba kabwa.Zoona uli chikopo. What is a dual carriage got to do with an accident a tyre burst for that matter.you should just caution the drivers to respect their lives and the lives of the people they carry.Even if there was no incoming truck the bus since was cruising was going to turn over and over throwing out shattered limbs of the passangers.Driver/s especially min bus ones are very useless.OVERSPEEDING to make gwagu is bad.accidents are common place but can be avoided.Travelling public please stop using Rosas and minibuses for long distances.

  5. Theres a threefold problem on Zambian roads that can never be resolved due to both govt and peoples altitude:

1.Selling of untested second hand tires. The govt needs to ban second hand tires entirely or atleast regulate the industry to make sure they are thoroughly tested.Tire bursts cause too many accidents on our roads.

2.Potholes. No need to say much on this.We all know it, we see it everyday. Potholes in Zambia are never fixed or maintained for years on end. These damage our vehicles and make driving unsafe.

3.Bad,untrained drivers. Most people pay bribes to get their licence’s.Very few have gone to driving school, and even fewer have read the highway code!

  6. I wonder how many people are allowed on those selela uko type of buses. I don’t think the government needs more evidence to show that this is a black spot. And also these buses should genuinely have valid MOT certificates to be allowed on the roads.i mean( road fitness). It’s so sad to be losing lives like this on roads with the so called working party in place(PF). May the good lord comfort families of those that have lost loved ones.

  7. This needless loss of lives must be stopped forthwith and we have to do it ourselves!!

As Zambians we tend to take our lives casually waiting for tragedy to strike. Look at the state of our roads with no signs and potholes all over the highways and no warning signs anywhere. The state of most buses we travel in is pathetic, just not fit to carry human beings, or being on the roads.

meanwhile politicians are busy stealing our resources while we die like flies. Why don’t we subject politicians to instant mob justice instead of courts like is normally done to petty thieves?

We need to take the challenge and emancipate ourselves than coil and shrivel in a corner waiting to be liberated by God knows who…

we cant afford to be wiping while politicians laugh at us, lets move…

    • so sorry for the lost lives. the emancipation must start by us as Zambians realizing what is and what is not safe.the traffic police are running battles with illegal transporters who are there with their unfit vehicles because of the lucrative business that hitchhikes are giving them in the name of wanting cheap things.
      very sad.

  8. Hmmmmmm sad! 20 people on a Hiace? The capacity is 16 or 18! Why do they become consistent when there is a by election ?

  9. “The accident happened when the driver of the bus lost control after a rear tyre burst and went on to hit into an on-coming truck and overturned.” says the Lusaka times………………… Here comes Tumfweko ati A TA truck carrying iron bars went off road and hit into a stationary toyota Hiace minibus that was carrying passengers…. Zambian reporters learn to be professional with the News you give out to the Public!!!!! MTSRIP……

    • So madam Shasha you honestly trusst those kids at Tumfweko? I always wait for LT to give us something close to factual.

  10. May Their Souls Rest In Peace government do something fast about making this road a dual carriage way the impact would have been less and some lives would not have been lost.

  11. Driving school should be mandetory in Zed, no one should get a drivers licence without going to a proper driving school and not learning from home. And plzzzz GRZ quit the talk and start with the dual carriage twapapata

  12. what is needed is prayers, Chibombo is becoming a threat to such fatal accident only by prayers we can save our lives . lets invite Christ to come and cast the evils around that area .

  13. Thank you LT for not showing the bodies on the road. ZWD are very unethical, showing bodies littered on the road like that is very traumatizing to the people that have lost their loved ones.

  14. what mana of devil is on that road. Christians should visit that spot with hoily water and fasting prayers. I mourn with the bereaved familys. So sad not even sick. And there gone pipo pray for the familys left behind.

  15. Police are compromised. Citizens are idol. Owners of business do not care.
    What is the case
1.0 The owner of the bus should foot all the funeral and hospital bills
    2..0 Comparsent the deceased families
3.0 Check the traffic officers on duties and charge them
4.0 Institute an inquiry and get information from the onlookers
5.0 Suspend the licence of owner of bus for one year.
    6.0 The station master fired

    • Some of these accidents could be avoided even before we look to heaven. Just read comments by @ 24 Concerned Zambian and @9 SadState for example. We can pray and pray but if we are careless accidents cannot stop. This state regulation is failing us. Perhaps, we need change in governing of road issues. Or maybe we should privatise road regulation?

      Thank you!

  16. lets face it, de road btn kafue & ndola z toooooooo small 4 de trafic it accommodates. wat i dont kno z hw many pipo all de govnts tht i hv been incldng de PF Govt want 2 die b4 thy cn expnd de road.

meanwhile ths so cld RATSA thy r busy watchng buldings n lsk 4getng tht most of fatal acidents ocur n highways. let thm intensfy patrols n sch roads.

some of u r syng an acident z an acident, while mayb u r right, but mayb nt; lets eliminate de obvious so tht wen we ve sch tragidies we all agree its an acident

  17. This corupt regime is behind these mysterious death. This regime is an incarnation of the devil. Thats why it has brot confusions in all sectors of the economy. Its shortage of commodities here, increase of prices there, 50 pipo dead from accidents here, Some president being transported for medication incognito there
There is nothing Godly with these satanists in govt.
Fr Frank Bwalya save us. we nid u

  18. Mushota uli shilu!!! It is sad to lose lives like that, let the GRZ ban the small buses to carry people there not manifuctred for that but goods…

  19. Losing control of a vehicle after a rear tyre bust can be attributed to high speed, unless of coarse that was not the cause, however PSV drivers need to be aware of the fact that they are carrying passengers , defensive driving requires that a driver should be aware of what is going on around his vehicle, when driving behind a vehicle, think of what would happen if that vehicle sudenly stopped, what would one do if the on comming vehicle lost control, what would one do if the people on the side road lost balance and came on to the road? on the road never take it for granted that all is well and that the other road user will do the right thing.

  20. How much loudly and lamentingly shall we continue to sing this song!!!!! PLEASE ba Government we seriously NEED DUAL CARRIAGEWAYS for our nations busy road network especially the LUSAKA/ COPPERBELT ONE. Its the only solution for the nation to end such tragic and colossal loss of lives on our roads. MTSRIP. ONE ZAMBIA ONE NATION!

  21. PRAYERS SHOULD GO WITH ACTION. DUAL CAURAGE WAY SHOULD BE A LASTING SOLUTION. LET THE GOV DIRECT ITS ENERGIES ON THIS NOT BY ELECTIONS.

  22. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

  23. SAD NEWS ONCE AGAIN MAY THE SOULS OF ALL THE DEPARTED REST IN PEACE.TYRE BUST.AM SURE THE MINIBUS HAS BEEN MOVING WITH FINISHED TYRES .ITS HIGH TIME GOVERNMENT CONSIDER REDUCING DUTY ON TYRES SO THAT PEOPLE BUY THEM CHEAPLY.SMALL MINIBUSES SHOULD BE RESTRICTED IN LOCAL TOWN NOT LONG DISTANCES.MY HEART FELT CONDOLENCES TO THE BEREAVED FAMILIES.

  24. Really sad. Low-profile tyres must be encouraged and government remove all forms of taxes for such tyres. They have been designed for safety incase of tyre burst.

  25. In safety we say accidents do not just happen they are caused. To bad for mother zambia. May the souls of the deceased rest in eternal peace and quick recovery to the injured. Mighty God hear your people crying.

  26. In safety we say accidents do not just happen they are caused. Too bad for mother zambia. May the souls of the deceased rest in eternal peace and quick recovery to the injured. Mighty God hear your people crying.

  27. Am just concerned! The accident shown did not happen today. I found this accident on SAT 27 April with a truck still down. Today’s accident may be different from the one shown in these pictures! Journalists research please!

  28. Very Sad Indeed. The year 2013 has not past and yet the nation continue to lose lives resulting from road accidents.More especially pa chibombo. This area now needs a 24hr police road block like the one thats near Kafue weigh bridge. And all potholes that are left un patched should be done otherwise such potholes will eventually become holes that will cause more accidents.I have just noticed this when i was travelling from kafue alot of unpatched potholes are still on that road.is it that govt is scouting for foreign exchange in order to patch them?

  29. MTSRIP. We need travel control times for long distance mini/buses & trucks in Zed. Mini/Buses to start operating at 05 30 hrs & last departure time for distances up to 300 km must be 15 hrs. Any distance longer than that but less 600 km, must depart between 05 30 hrs & 12 hrs. Any distance longer 600 km must depart between 05 & 10 hrs 2 rid fatigue for crew & late travel. All trucks should not move between 18 & 00 01 hrs 2 give chance 2 smaller & passenger vehicles. Speed traps to be implemented with police of officers with charge sheets & receipt books not receipt books only. Road blocks for traffic offenses except security duty 2 be removed since these contribute 2 accidents by detaining drivers for hrs causing them to cruise 2 recover time. Compulsory tickets 2 rid crew thefts.

  30. I think the government should consult Clive Chirwa, Prof. of crush-worthiness, this is his area of expertise!

  31. With regard to my posting at no.39, I have comfirmed this was another accident on the same spot! May the souls of the departed rest in peace.

  32. Oh no, not again! I was hoping things are getting a liitle bit better on our roads, but it seems nothing has changed. Only God can save us from these tragedies.

May the many souls find peace and their families be comforted.

  33. Too bad for the deceased, their families , and the nation at large. i strongly believe everyone is to blame for these accidents including you and me. They say its only a mistake the fist time something happens. The governments have been singing songs of improving the road network in the country from as far as i can remember but nothing has happened from the time the nation had a hundred vehicles until now when we have millions of cars.you and me are entertaining this, we only complain and cry foul when an accident has occurred. i can assure you, we shall forget this after the burial of our beloved ones , all we care about is politics.MTSRIP

  34. We plead for forgiveness and mercy and ask you LORD to redeem our nation and save our land from destruction and judgement. AMEN
I urge all you people who fear the LORD to pray with Prophet T B Joshua
Wave that Zambia flag people and seriously pray.
Our Zambia is crying right now!
( Please don’t comment carelessly if you do not have the fear of the Lord-this is for serious people not those who thrive on insults)

  35. Alot of young and inexperience drivers on the road they even don’t mind when and where to over take, over speed or load passengers! Owners of buses you have an important role to play, you should ensure that your bus is road worthy. Police officers and RTSA don’t be compromised. There is one known bus operator in Lusaka who does not care how fit his buses are to carry people what he is interested in is the daily cashing. His buses are just left free to operate!

  36. On Sunday some crazy minibus driver almost took my life in what would have been a head on collision after he lost control of his overspending bus and came on my side of the road. Today i went for a joy ride only to find some cops had mounted a roadblock checking for road tax and fitness disc when have u ever heard of an accident occurring because the driver did not have road tax. There is a luck of seriousness from both the govt and police in . We need to have speed sensors mounted with cameras to capture overspending motorists, police officers patrol with breath analysers to conduct random alcohol tests, undercover officers in unmarked cars monitoring driver behavior.
