Kitwe will host Zambia’s opening match at the 2013 COSAFA Cup on 14 July- a quarterfinal clash against Mozambique after COSAFA withdrew Kabwe from hosting cities.
COSAFA announced a venue change for the July COSAFA tournament on Saturday after withdrawing Kabwe from hosting cities that include Lusaka and Ndola as well.
COSAFA said Kabwe’s Godfrey “Ucar” Chitalu Stadium was not fit to host matches for the tournament to be staged between 6 and 20 July.
In Kitwe, Arthur Davies Stadium and Nkana Stadium are expected to host matches for the regional tournament.
“Kabwe was initially scheduled to be the third venue for the regional competition, but logistical challenges in upgrading to the required standard for the competition have meant it has been withdrawn,” read a statement from COSAFA.
The COSAFA Cup returns for the first time since 2009 when hosts Zimbabwe won the tournament after beating Zambia in the final.
People, please let’s agree that the name Godfrey “Ucar” Chitalu in memory of the 107 Goals-in-a-Season man who died doing soccer duties for this country is reserved for the new stadium in Lusaka. The Kabwe field must just Remain the Railway stadium.
Just cancel all COSAFA tournament, people are not in good moods because Sata napena.
And the one who is supposed to be Sports Minister called Kambwili, has been insulting and threatening people who make others happy like Fr. Bwalya. Fi P.F nafyonaula bola.
My dear friend forget about the PF, nature will sort them out. In the meantime enjoy the football news. Anyone with the latest scores from the ZPL?
Good move by COSAFA.The stadium in Kabwe is pathetic to say the list!
