PRESIDENT Sata says his Government remains open to dialogue on national issues and that he expects a certain level of maturity from those who seek to engage Government on various national issues.
President Sata was reacting to remarks reported in the media and attributed to MMD president Nevers Mumba regarding the State’s decision to withdraw former President Rupiah Banda’s diplomatic passport.
On Thursday, Pastor Mumba described Government’s decision to cancel Mr Banda’s diplomatic passport as an ‘act of stupidity’.
President Sata said Pastor Mumba’s remarks do not reflect the maturity Government expects from opposition leaders.
President Sata said this in a statement issued by his spokesman Mr George Chellah.
Pastor Mumba was quoted as having said: “… I am a pastor and I am supposed to choose words I use but I am asking God to allow me to use the word ‘stupidity’, utter stupidity to behave like that.”
President Sata has advised Pastor Mumba to be genuine with his spiritual calling and stop misrepresenting God.
“Pastor Mumba’s biggest problem is the impression he creates around himself as though he has the monopoly on matters of spirituality to the extent of misrepresenting the Creator.”
The President said, “As a clergyman, he must be ashamed of this hypocrisy and stop abusing the freedom and democracy, which so many well-intentioned Zambians sacrificed for.”
President Sata told Pastor Mumba not to be a menace to the unity and peace the country has enjoyed since independence.
On Thursday Pastor Mumba told journalists that what Government had done was an embarrassment to the country and the region because former Presidents deserve respect.
Pastor Mumba said this at Chipata Municipal Council shortly after MMD candidate Reuben Phiri filed his nomination papers for the July 25 Chipata Central parliamentary by-election.
How else does Sata describe his action about RB. He shud state whether fya Mano. It is even more stupidity for Sata to say Dr Mumba is misrepresenting God. Has Sata 4gotten that Dr Mumba is party leader – suffering from amnesia!

Berlusconni was convicted by a court of law. No one stopped him from travelling outside of Italy. Neither the Italian President nor Prime Minister nor Interior Minister invalidated his passport. No one has said that RB should not be prosecuted for his alleged crimes. what we don’t accept is Sata and his minions interfering with the judicial process. If a Judge rules that RB should be given his passport we expect Sata to respect that decision. It is called the rule of law!
I think pastor Mumba is just feeling the heat of loosing MPs. He is actually seing MMD going down by the day and there s nothing he can do about it. And now with Dora’s exit from parliament, naikosa ba pastor! Lets see who is really stupid. I think MMD only needs 10 mps.

To deter plunder of national resources we have to set an example on the thieves presidents. The decision to withdraw President Banda’s passport is indeed an act of stupidity and it’s childish, vindictive, ruthlesss, evil politics being practiced by PF.

Yes, it is very foolish and stupid to grab diplomatic passport from RB. It is also stupid & foolish for immigration officers to stop RB from travelling outside Zambia when he had valid papers. RB is not under Zambia (house) arrest to be stopped from travelling outside Zambia. It is also good & wise for the gov. to prosecute RB for the alleged crimes RB might have committed, but not to abuse RB’s rights for the inefficient & lack of enough evidence to send RB to jail. How long will it take to convict RB if the state has evidence beyond reasonable doubt? In terms of the Rule of the Law, PF like MMD gov. has absolutely failed. What can Kabimba, the minister of the law say? RB should be given back the passport without fail.
