Tests on meat products on the two Zambeef trucks detained at the Katima Mulilo Border post have revealed NO sign of Aromatic Aldehydes.

Aromatic Aldehydes are believed to cause cancer.

But the Health Minister , Joseph Kasonde says the two trucks have since been released to proceed with delivery of the products to Zambeef.

Dr. Kasonde however says inspections on food products entering the country will be intesified to ensure they are fit for human consumption.

He said this in an interview with ZNBC in LUSAKA.

Dr Kasonde also said results on tests done in South Africa and Germany on the alleged unwholesome meat products seized from Zambeef are not yet out.

Last Week, Dr Kasonde told parliament that preliminary tests run on some Zambeef imported products tested positive of Aromatic Aldehydes.

  1. Why are Zambians so Dull and stupid like this these trucks came at a time when this issue was hot which foolish company will bring some more contaminated meat when the issue was at hand? we all knew that truck was arranged and was clean to divert from the real issue..the meat that shud have been relied upon was those sample that went missing and the meet that was already in stock

    • Iwe Dr Dull. How long does it take for a ship to doc walvis bay from europe. These are basics that pf kaponyaz cant calculate and When were these samples taken. Dull through and through till death do us part.

  2. There you have it.I think Zambeef should sue over the malicious lies perpetrated by the Post over its products.

    • yes, except that u have to pay a little bit more for pf slander & malicious damage of zambeef corporate image…

    • You don’t even know what kind of meat you are eating, how can meat be so cheap from Europe that is shipped via a refrigerated container, then transported in-land via refrigerated trucks, heavily taxed at port of entry; these are not cheap logistics here….how cheap is meat in Europe? 25 pence a kilo…. I would not be surprised if this is the horse meat that was banned in the UK and offloaded to Africa, my people back home are enjoying.
Wake up people from your docility!!

    • These are offals. Europeans don’t eat the stomach and its contents. They are usually thrown away. You will never find them in supermarkets. In London we buy them from markets and independent Butchers and shops. They are very cheap!
There wouldn’t have been need for these imports if the so called Veterinary services was doing its job in Zambia. There are a lot of cattle diseases in Zambia due to lack of vaccines and deeping facilities . Nearly 90% of offals are discarded at the Zambeef slaughter house in Western Province due to liver disease. The govt has been blaming the long border with Angola for lack of animal disease control in Western Province. This is a lie because Beef exporting Namibia also has a long border with Angola. Difference is Namibia vaccinates her cattle!

    • Its sheer laziness on us as Zambians to import just because we have given up on eradicating the diseases in our cattle.

    • Laughable indeed you stating that “They are usually thrown away” that is exactly what they want you to think…. nothing is thrown away in the slaughter house even pig’s blood is used as black budding for English breakfast. Everything is used up as processed meat or mechanised meat….just because the end product is attractively packaged does not make it healthy.

  3. Fred Mambala is an axis of exile. The post has adhyde – chemical materials used for embalming dead bodies. Lets us shun the Post

  4. Fred Mambala iz an axis of Evil. Evil to the core. Arrogant, unforgiving, pompus, self righteous, and all knowing.

  5. The truth of the matter the lab which was initially used, does not have capacity and ability to carry out a true analytical test. It is sad that advisers, technical people, at the lab did not do a good job of informing the Minister the meaning of their results. Recall that science is different from politics, but an evidence based subject. The lab in question needs to be funded properly if its findings are to be used in such matters. Also ministry build the staff capacity, in order for them to handle modern chemical analysis. That lab is too backward for a modern country.

  6. How can the health minister stand there and take pride in importing cheap meat from the EU, we are killing our farmers. Zambia does not have the technology to efficiently test these refrigerated products at the point of entry, how can simple tests take 3 weeks? How is Ministry of Health able to test the beef for horse DNA if they don’t have the facilities and send samples to DNA labs in RSA for tests?

    • I dont eat beef. Those offoz are not sold to africa n they are given away for free. Those chaps dont eat crap.

    • That’s what you think…. they are the worst culprits when it comes to eating crap and they are exporting their technologies to Africa…how do you think processed meat is manufactured?

    • The West does not give anything for free – Trust.
The animal offals ( including ears, snouts, arseholes, lips) are processed to make ‘alternative meat’ such as burgers and hotdogs.

  7. Haven’t you ever heard of the fact that even an individual who sleeps with an HIV positive person can test negative in the first 3 months of the act?

    • I’m not sure how you can draw a parallel between formaldehyde in beef and the HIV virus.

Maybe I’ll read your post once more.

  8. You guys, this is a recent delivery. The tests for those samples taken to South Africa are not yet out.I also concur, how possible can imported meat be cheap?

    • Imported matombo are cheap because these products from the countries of origin they do not eat intestines and the likes. It is sad that people associate intestines (which ZAMBEEF is importing) for steak (or nyama as you call it) is locally procured. In other words what you call matumbo or fimukati is not regarded as food in the west except for a bit of liver. Hopefully, now you know why these are cheap, if anything they could have been one third of the price at the counter if it were not for the transport cost.

  9. I won’t take the time and trouble to read the article.

2 impounded trucks is not a sufficient sample size to draw an inference. We ain’t fools.
