Government has commissioned the 25 million litre Lusaka Bulk Fuel Storage Facility for strategic fuel reserve.
The facility, situated along Buyantanshi road in the industrial area will be able to store 13 million litres of Diesel, 10 million litres of Petrol and 1 million litres of Kerosene.
The storage facility was built at a cost of over K132 million by Dalbit International.
With Zambia’s daily consumption rate of diesel and petrol standing at 2 million and 1 million litres respectively, the facility should be able to hold an estimated eight days of national consumption of diesel, petrol and kerosene.
Energy Minister Christopher Yaluma commissioned the new facility and revealed that government is constructing similar facilities in other provinces.
Mr. Yaluma said government’s planned infrastructure for fuel storage is expected to hit 90 million litres, which at current consumption levels translate to 30 days of national fuel consumption.
He said the newly commissioned depot is expected to service the southern and western parts including Lusaka.
Mr. Yaluma says this means that fuel tankers supplying the western and southern provinces will not have to travel to Ndola to pick up the fuel products but will do so at the Buyantanshi depot.
The Lusaka Bulk Fuel Storage Facility will be managed by TAZARA.
thought the government have discovered some oil, kanshi ni revised indeni
I think its Tanzania Zambia Mafuta (TAZAMA) and not TAZARA, ba LT can you please correct this ELA!!!
Imwe ba ministet,TAZARA are known failures how do you give them a project of such magnitude
A stoage facility initiatve is welcome since it wil act as distribtion strategic facility thereby ading value in the suply chain thru les cost & easily acesible strategic centre fr 3 provin rs.In esence consumers satisfaction is enhenced by time, place & product availability.Ths pragmatises the concept of consumer satisfction synergsticaly by 3Ps.Viva go on in al provinces.
This is a very good development. It has been long overdue.Congrats PF on dis one.
This project was started before Power failures were voted into office[before 2011].
This was started by MMD, they paid the contractor before PF took power
its tazama not tazara
That makes sense know how can Tazara manage a fuel storage facility when they have bigger problems..i bet Meembe will get a contract for his haulage company.
Ama Zambians *********** y are not viewing this monumental achievement and commenting? When PF scores u keep quite but are only interested in politics. Thats y poverty will never wnd in this part of the world. We all nust want to concentrate on politics and politics thats all. Here is a very significant milestone in our natinonal economy and we ignore it. Kano ngabaeba ati Sata this or Sata that ninshi mwaimya *************
U ARE RIGHT
Congrats but why lusaka? Doesn’t the industrial base of copper belt and NW need more fuel than all of us?
