The opposition Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) has cautioned that the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) will be initiating its exit from government if it dares to temper with the work of the Electoral Commission of Zambia(ECZ).
This follows calls by Home Affair Minister Edgar Lungu that the top management of the Electoral Commission of Zambia be removed because it has allegedly failed in implement the Electoral ACT in the country.
MMD president Nevers Mumba has charged that allegations that the ECZ has failed to live up to its mandate are not true as the ECZ has demonstrated a level of independence on most contentious issues in the country.
Dr. Mumba said that his party also congratulated the ECZ because it had not made itself a puppet of the ruling party amidst the so many threats and intimidation it had been going through under the PF government.
Dr. Mumba was speaking to Qfm in an interview.

Opposition have had numerous opportunities (given freely by PF) to show the people of Zambia that PF is truly failing. They let those opportunities go without a whisper.
Biggest culprit is Chipimo, but HH should come out and speak against the misdeeds a lot more often.
I agree – HH does not behave like a tested politician in cases which require courage and fortitude! You only hear of people like Mumba, Gen Miyanda, Nawakwi, Mweetwa, etc defending the people.
HH is only heard on issues that affect him personally like when arrested or something like that – although is always lenient with HH and alwaya lets him off! Where is HH now when the ECZ is being otracised?
Are we not risking voting for an absent president again even worse than Sata? I am Tonga but I will vote for Mumba who is showing real courage of leading people!!

I have no personal knowledge of HH. Why? He doesn’t put himself out there more often. Not even on blog talk radio shows have I heard him. The Internet is so available and uncontrolled by PF.
Right now there should be a weekly radio address from him where he rallies his supporters, tweets, facebook etc.
Especially since Sata is never seen and rarely heard. Seize the day, HH! ( or anyone else for that matter)
I am still non-partisan and only know of HH from contributors to this blog. He has not earned my vote -yet.

1.the ECZ hold elections even by-election based on the fact that the courts have found that there was corrupt activities during that petitioned election
FACT: if you can hold by-elections basing on that simple nullification what prosecution

You need to go back to school and put your energy into that. It will do you a lot of good. No one is disputing that the ECZ supervises elections in Zambia and nobody is disputing that those CONVICTED or REPORTED GUILTY of illegal practices should not be allowed to stand in elections for 5years (more if it was upto me). Now simple minds like you, Kabimba and obviously Lungu seem to end here and think Dora and Mwale should not stand. But the LAW says those CONVICTED (and no one in Zambia has ever been convicted of election malpractice) or REPORTED GUILTY – again its only the high court registrar has the legal authority to report to the ECZ (Not the Post or a statement from the ACJ). And no such report has been submitted to the ECZ. That is the process according to the Law.
In addition:
Nullification of elections on the grounds of corrupt activities does not translate into the CONVICTION of the winning candidate nor does it translate into that candidate being “REPORTED GUILTY”. The corruption or illegal activity could have been done by anyone and it is against the principles of LAW to punish someone for a crime they did not commit. Therefore, and I hope, that your brains can now comprehend why a report from the high court registrar is the only report to carry the legal weight to stop a candidate. Just incase you are still missing – that report will contain facts and exactly what lead to a court to “accept” the presence of corruption. M’membe is twists facts to suit him and the DPP forges court documents so you can’t trust any Jim and Jack reporting…

This topic is clearly above your Mulenga and Jelita comprehension. Nullification of the electoral process has more than the individuals concerned. The factors are only comprensive in the courts and the courts are the ones to bar not the election board. Recommendations from the court would therefore not only be issued because my party of interest lost or to afford due advantage to my choice of candidate. Do you understand the significant roe the court plays? Zambia is awakening though the basic education the country feted its citizens and will not excuse ignorance fr the sake of Chibuku as offered by my wealth candidate.

i expected that from pastor mumba because i have never heard of him at one point condenming corruction. i dont know if himself is corrupt or not. whether you are PF MMD or UPND if you are corrupt and found guilt and have your election nullified you cant partcipate in an election period

Opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema has demanded that the Electoral Commission of Zambia be dissolved for allegedly failing to effectively administer elections.
Mr. Hichilema said the ECZ has become useless and ineffective and should be dissolved.
He said the recent poor conduct of the Mpongwe and Livingstone bye elections was a clear indication that the current ECZ has no capacity to effectively manage elections.
“The rampant electoral fraud which is going unabated by the ECZ is a matter of serious concern. We have resolved as the UPND to demand that the ECZ be dissolved because it is useless,” Mr. Hichilema said.

The opposition MMD will not participate in next month’s Parliamentary by- elections in Kapiri and Lukulu West.
MMD President Nevers Mumba revealed that the party has resolved not to participate in the two elections in order to concentrate on reorganizing itself.
Dr. Mumba said the by- elections are costly and are done at the expense of many attendant needs of the population. The MMD leader also called for the reorganization of the Electoral Commission of Zambia.
“We wish to express our total loss of confidence in the ECZ which continues to authenticate elections held under dubious conditions. We do not believe that ECZ in its current form will contribute to a more just electoral process,” Dr. Mumba said.

Lets look at both sides of the coin, is ECZ right on this one? i think we need not to support any how, ECZ is wrong and they should be asked not to ignore serious issues like this one in future and not praise them aunecessary. what if they had allowed th pf members who hd their elections nullified to stand, what do u think Mumba could hv said. The call is long over due, isn’t it not still the same crop of leadership at ECZ that had been helping the MMD rig past elections and now the are at its again even as they are no longer in power by not following Electrol act. We need an independent ECZ, appointed from civil society and rectified and appointed by parliament and not President.
