Opposition not doing enough – VJ

Share

Veteran politician Vernon Mwaanga has observed that opposition Political Parties in the country are not doing enough in holding government accountable and providing the necessary checks and balances which are necessary in a democratic society.

Mr. Mwaanga says it is unfortunate that opposition Political Parties seem to be pre-occupied with other issues totally unrelated to their co-function.

Mr. Mwaanga is however hopeful that going forward, the opposition will develop a culture of working together and approach burning issues in the country with one voice.

He cites out delay in the constitution making process and implementation of the public order ACT as some of the burning issues on which the opposition should demand clear road map from government.

Meanwhile Mr. Mwaanga has noted the need for government to be tolerant towards the opposition stating that they are not enemies of the State.

He says the opposition has a clear duty to provide checks and balances to the government of the day.

Mr Mwaanga states that there is need for the opposition to be given democratic space for them to operate freely.

  1. Good observation bwana VJ.I also wonder why they don’t do that but instead they prefer to continue talking about president Sata’s health and chances of him dying. We surely lack issue based politics and politicians in our country.

    • Vernon Mwaandrax!!! at last we agree on something!! If I ever become president of Zambia people like VJ, Sata, Kabimba, Nchito, Mmembe, Regina Chiluba, Maureen Mwanawasa, Kalusha Bwalya, FTJ (though dead), Ben Mwila, Col. Nkunika, Ron Shikapwasya, John Sangwa, Castro Chiluba (though dead), Masebo, and many many others would be made to pay back for the pillage and plunder they have done to Zambia and Zambians. And that’s the dog-on Truth, so help me God!!!

    • Don’t be foolish all of you when do they get the chance to do that when they can’t even be allowed to meet in their own bedroom!

    • @Saulosi,
It’s not only the opposition talking about the president’s ill-health, currently the PF big wigs are so divided and busy jostling to take over from Sata and they privately base their imminent succession on the fact that his health is failing. Why are they fighting so early when the president still has 3 years on his term?

    • POLITICS OF THUGGERY AND DISHONESTY HAVE KEPT MOST UPRIGHT ZAMBIANS OUT OF THIS GAME, BUT IT CAN’T BE LEFT TO CONTINUE THIS WAY WHERE THUGS & THIEVES FORMULATE AND IMPLEMENT, EDUCATION, HEALTH, FINANCIAL AND DEVELOPMENTAL POLICIES OF OUR LAND AND WE JUST STANDBY AND LOOK. IF YOU OPPOSE THEM YOU’RE CALLED “ENEMY OF THE STATE”. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH… IF THE EGYPTIAN WAVE HAS TO COME TO ZAMBIA, LET IT BE SO…..

    • That is VJ for you dont trust him, he says one thing and means the other,, dont forget he is a big election rigger!! he is looking for aka punda to `sell` his rigg ideas to willing political parties

  2. Its the culture that will take time to eradicate through education, tolerance, consciously notifying the national through media on laws and governance . I have a seem well educated men and women get corrupted by the system too politically….hence i strongly believe religion plays an important part here…..selfishness and personal enrichment seem to precede the honor of the deed

  3. Opposition can do more in an environment that is free and fair not where the party in Government continues to thrive on outdate laws (Public order Act) and other underhand methods to intimidate the opposition. If SATA was given the kind of treatment he is meting out to the opposition today he would have probably given up the campaigns whilst in the opposition. The opposition are not enemies of state, but provide checks and balances for the good of the country. But under PF the rules of engagement have certainly changed for the worse. The PF must accept that they do not hold a patent to the development of Zambia and as such other parties may have very good ideas- Chipimo has been very level headed and put forward very good suggestions to the PF but he has been ignored for obvious reasons

  4. But if they act like enemies of the state they should be treated as such. You can’t use opposition as an excuse

  5. Oposition busy yurpng wantng to be in plot 1 bt without adresing how to get there.Treatng symptoms not the causative infection!Evn the so called educted politcal maniacs ve no vision nor strategy at all.And cal yrselves educated id.ot.ic f.o.ols bunch of craps! Why waste yr talent carelesly?

  6. From history VJ only talks when the fruits are maturing for the picking……………………………..

  7. VJ, is one good reason why men of high integrity keep out of Zambian politics as it full of fortune seekers like himself. Mulungu watu, could you please fwikila this plunderer for us? You took LPM, man of integrity and yet you still continue to spare this sickler…..this crook………God forbid if HH or Sata will embrace this man! My power Mulungu could you also fwikila william banda, mukombwe as these chaps would &%$# their old mayi bawo for a position. Men with no regard for others do not deserve an inch of respect …..Mulungu ni kululukileni.

  8. VJ could you please rest in peace. we have had enough of you as much as we had enough of kaunda for 27 years? Some of us would be happy if you concentrated on your ailing health? I see…you need money to maintain your ill health. The only way you know how to earn money is through your mouth…zed politics I guess?

  9. @mp u have never made any meaningful contribution to the world apart from hauling insults at people but Vernon Mwaanga has done much not only to Zambia but the world as a whole. you should learn to grow with substance in your head and the world is going to appreciate your services. Vernon is going to leave a legacy to the world, what legacy are you going to leave behind with such level of insults in your mouth ?

  10. @Lord Smith, tell us which legacy VJ is going to leave, because even bad legacy is legacy anyway! “Vernon Mwaanga has done much not only to Zambia but the world as a whole”. What has he done? For it is possible he has done bad things for the world e.g. rigging elections in Zimbabwe, malawi, DRC etc, please is a mere example of possibilities not that he has done them. Some Zambians can even praise death due to the benefits they get or inheret from the deceased. Tell us… not yes yes for personal gains

  11. @Lord Smith “Vernon Mwaanga has done much not only to Zambia but the world as a whole”. Tell us what he has done, its possible he has done much damage not good e.g. master elections rigger in the continent, in Malawi, Zimbabwe, DRC etc. Please note that this is a mere example of possibilities not necessarily what he has done. Because ‘Some’ Zambians even praise death due to benefits the get or inherit from the deceased’s estates. Tell us….. not yes yes for pernal gains. We want to know we must know.

  12. Vj remember umodzi kummawa and wako ni wako also kwasha mukwenu, pf is practising this quietly. You work with HH quietly also and develop a strategy for upnd to win .nothing wrong working with your own, pacts can be made later with ba kummawa.

  13. My grandfather VJ has not even built a single toilet in his home village and only talks when he wants something. PF and UPND don’t embrace him and keep him far away from your parties.
