First Lady Christine Kaseba, has implored Zambians to use the euphoria the just-ended 2013 20thSession of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) has created to market the country’s tourism potential.
Speaking after being conferred as an honorary ambassador of tourism for Zambia, Dr Kaseba said the legacy that the just-end conference left should be a springboard for citizens to effectively market the country’s tourism potential to the outside world.
The First Lady noted that Zambia has a number of waterfalls dotted around the country and a variety of wildlife species that the country can benefit from if well marketed.
Dr Kaseba told heads of delegations and senior government officials that attended the function dubbed “The First Lady’ Health Gala Dinner-Health for Improved Tourism” under the theme: “A Healthy Nation is a Wealthy Nation” held at the Zambia Air Force (ZAF) Banquet Hall in Livingstone last night.
She reiterated President Sata’s warning against the pitfalls of over-consumption and implored Zambians to protect the physical environment and cultures by promoting sustainable tourism.
Dr Kaseba advised old people to promote the balance of nature and cultural biodiversity so that it can be preserved for future generations.
Earlier, UNWTO Secretary General, Taleb Rifai, said Zambians should be proud for successfully co-hosting an event that has put the country on the world market.
Dr Rifai commended the Zambian government for taking a step on promoting health tourism in line with the World Health Organisation (WHO) which has since appointed goodwill health ambassadors to promote the cause.
Meanwhile, Tourism and Arts Minister, Sylvia Masebo, said tourism and health go together, hence the launch of the promotion of health tourism in the country aimed at maintaining cleanliness in tourist spots.
Ms Masebo noted that the successful co-hosting of the event has given Zambians the impetus to consolidate and enhance cleanliness and healthy campaign across the country.
She said the event has repositioned Zambia as a favouarble destination for tourists, hence the need to continue marketing the sector.
In attendance was Republican Vice President’s wife, Charlotte, who led Ministers’ spouses, Deputy Secretary to the Cabinet, Ambassador Peter Kasanda, who lead Permanent Secretaries and some District Commissioners.
Also in attendance was Defence Minister, Geoffrey Mwamba and his Commerce, Trade and Industry counterpart, Emmanuel Chenda.

Yaba! This is an excuse to spend Tax payers’ money touring the world before they check out of Statehouse
This is unfair, honorary-Ambassador should have gone to Charlotte Scott!! Charlotte is the number one, super-woman.

Total rifraffs these two women….ati a healthy nation is a wealth nation. The nation has run oout of ARV Drugs and no BCG in the hospitals…iwe chi kaseba, how does a nation remain health when all funds are channneled to byelections?cHI MASEBO ATI cleanliness when you have failed to provide decent enviroment for vendors to trade in. …look at lusaka.it should be renamed as cabbage town coz no one cares
this is no news, it’s a lifestyle of Dr Kaseba.
These are the women love associating with- Marked Avhievers, hard working commando women and results tell for themselves, marked ACHIEVERS indeed…. congratulations Dr Kaseba i look up to you.
She is a doc who has not said a thing about ARV shortages and lack of BCG vaccines in hospitals. This only shows that her mouth is where the money is, she has no concern for the affected patients and babies.
THE OPPOSITION CAMP IS QUIET, THEY HOPED IT WOULD BE A FLOP THAT’S WHY SOME STAYED AWAY. JOB WELL DONE ZAMBIAN PEOPLE.
UNWTO was not a PF project. May you thought it meant UWATO. Just concetrate on the civil war in PF.
@U.W.T.O
The UNTWO was a national event NOT pf event!!
Tourist attraction.
More money in her pockets. She will be asking for more money from parliament to fund her trips abroad. The right title for her is’ Zambia’s leading tourist’.
Why maintain cleanliness only in tourist spots?
Is it acceptable for the people who man these tourist spots to live in filthy homes and neighbourhoods?
You need to promote clealiness everywhere and educate the populace.
Exactly what I was thinking. Cleanliness shouldn’t just be for the tourists, it should be the way of life amongst the general population.
Well, Dr Kaseba will attract more tourists with her mouth that is always open full blast.
I think of all the first ladies, Dr Kaseba has the most beautiful and very natural smile! I know you agree with me!..C’mon guys stop the hate!
@xfactor, It is said that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. So do not expect everyone to agree with you.
Congratulations to our First Lady, she deserves the honour.
PS. The boy in the pic above better learn how to smile. Life is not a bed roses and circumstances can make you frown sometimes but even all psychiatrists agree that laughter is the best medicine.
There is nothing ticklish or enthusiastic about being exploited! The boy was taken advantage of!
Does this mean we’ll be seeing pictures of her at these far-flung places? Somehow I doubt it very much.
New York, London, Paris is more her style.
Fyabupuba ifi. Kaseba and Masebo seem to be on perpetual holidaying, dancing and smilling to cameras and i dont know wat else when tot being photographed. Really shameful acts from supposedly enlightened ladies
@ Zabwino Palibe. UNWTO may not have been a PF event but PF made sure it was successful. Give credit were its due. Had it failed you would seen how many mouths would have opened to condemn, even the dumb would have had their speech restored just for this moment. Opposition has turned green with envy.
You know!…exactly my thoughts!
Draw a line between PF and the government of zambia,, the event was handled by the government of zambia on behalf of people of zambia,,,
PF didnt make that event a successful but the government of zambia did.
Get over your blind reasoning
@ ndobo: Don’t even bother yourself with defending differences between government and party. The question is, who actually said it was a success on the Zambian side?
Some people are just born haters, even where there is absolutely no need to criticise, they look for magnifying glasses to find that slightest flaw…mmm awe sure! Congrats Madam Kaseba!
“The First Lady’ Health Gala Dinner-Health for Improved Tourism”
What does this even mean? Seriously, this first lady Doctor Without Borders is quietly digging deeper and deeper into our hard earned taxes. This is just making up silly names for events to just chew some more. And who ‘conferred’ her with this so called honorary ambassadorship? Wake up my fellow country people!!!!
By the way, the name of the so called ‘Health Gala Dinner’ is just as stu.pid as ‘Gabon Disaster Heroes Of ’93 Who Died When Their Plane Crashed Into The Sea For Still Unknown Reasons Off The Coast Of Gabon So We Remember Them Stadium’. PF and its names!!!
Kolwestans’ maize field.
If she is going to be loitering around in the name tourism ambassador, who will resuscitate Ukwa when he next faints for 45 minutes?
jELO
Building as many castles in the air as much as possible and attach them with all kind of fantastic names. Cultivate as many maize field fields as much as possible, for the monkeys to harvest from.
Accompany it with all kind of titles and accolades, no shortage of grinning and hissing cheer leaders.
At what expense to the tax payer I ask?
Its really all pie in the sky stuff and is bound for some ‘recall’ at some time in the not too distant future. Ask Tandiwe Banda, she still wringing her fingers!
Dr Christine Kaseba please stick to what what you know best ,and that is Cervical Cancer prevention and treatment which you have hijacked from the pioneers, whom you know very well. Now you want to hijack or you have hijacked tourism. The problem with you Christine is that you are used to eating easy money from your crooked husband. You are putting yourself in big trouble come 2016 or earlier, that tax payers money you busy chewing with impunity when BCG and ARVs have run out of the country will haunt you for the rest of your life. You are young and you a professional direct your energies to what you can defend.Tourist won’t come to Zambia because of your smiles but because of the facilities ,safety clean environment which you hubby does not believe in .The just ended UNWATO is just…
continued…is just another reminder how poorly the country fails to attract tourist, more tourists went and spent their money in Zimbabwe than in Zambia because of sanity there and not Zambia. How do you expect a tourist with his or her earned dollar come to the Zambia side and use a toilet which has no running water ,no toilet paper? All the money was stolen by your PF thugs. If your smile is cheating you why didn’t Zuma make his seven wives ambassadors who more beautiful than you and much younger? He has the financial muscle much more than our poor country.Christine please spare us ,if you are bored behind those walls go back to UTH there is a massive shortage of doctors in case you have forgotten.T.O.P specialist, tulekusosha utupopo ka?Restless like a headless chicken!
Tourism is Zambia needs more than just words. War torn countries like Rwanda and Sudan attract more people than Zambia does. Why can’t we move forward. PF govt are jumping on every vehicle and causing chaos. There is no proper agenda whatsoever. Look around and learn from others – government look after housing, healthcare and education. Business sector is not govt job – leave that to people who know better. To market tourism, govt should slash duty and visa full STOP….! Cut the red tape and encourage people to visit Zambia. In the 1990s countries such as Spain and Portugal were worse off than Zambia – now they have bigger and better hotels, better tourism industries and millions of visitors are welcome every year..! Zambia has lots to offer, so why are we failing?
