The 15th Extraordinary council of the African Union has opened in Addis Ababa , Ethopia to discuss Africa’s relationship with the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Executive Council Chairperson Tedros Ghebreyesus during the official opening of the Council expressed concern over the way the ICC has been treating Africa and Africans.

Dr Ghebreyesus who is also Ethiopian Foreign Affairs Minister said that the ICC had transformed itself into a political instrument targeting Africans instead of promoting justice and reconciliation as well as contributing to the advancement of peace and stability on the continent.

He said that the AU had made attempts to engage with the ICC with the view of finding a solution to the unfair treatment but that it had not received desired response.

Dr Ghebreyesus said that AU Member States should speak with one voice and ensure that they receive a fair treatment from the ICC.

He said that he was confident that the Extraordinary Summit will send a strong message to the International Community on the issue of Africa’s relationship with the ICC.

The Extra ordinary Summit has been convened following a motion passed by Kenya’s upper and lower parliament last month to take the country out of the ICC because of the trial of its President, Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto.

Foreign Affairs Deputy Minister Gabriel Namulambe is attending the Extraordinary Executive Council. Mr Namulambe will also represent President Michael Chilufya Sata at the Extraordinary Assembly of the Heads of State and Government tomorrow.

This is contained in a statement signed by First Secretary Press and Tourism at the Zambian High Commission to Ethopia, Dorcas Chileshe.

  1. AU member states should just agree to collectively pull out of the ICC and establish their own institute of justice. How long must we keep saying “yes” to everything imposed on us by the west?
Sometimes I wish we had more Mugabes and Gadaffis on the continent to awaken the conscience of our people to reclaim full ownership of their land, initiate and follow their own agenda.

  2. Just lock up Mr Kenyatta and his bloodthirsty deputy Ruto and throw away the keys.Kenya should be geographically removed from africa as it has the worst brand of africans.

  3. Africans must stop these politics of convenience . What are African governments doing about Eastern Congo , Darfur in Sudan , the matebelle massacre in Zimbabwe, the Tutsi genocide in Rwanda , the Mali atrocities or even the atrocities inIvory Coast. NOTHING. And we complain that if such crimes were in Europe like kosovia the west would be interested. Now the West shows interest and you claim you are being victimized . Ok then Let Africans kill each other bcs one small Bantu dialect claims intellectual superiority over another . The world should not care

    • Go mind your own bussiness and concetrate on your onw problems such as Pedophilia, Racisim, Euro going down, Drugs, Homo sexualilty, supplying african rebels with amunition, stealing minerals from Africa and so forth and so on!
If you want to blog here, use your bongo bongo otherwise, you have problems in Europe that need urgent attention, dont come here scream as if you are talking to people who dont know whats happenning aroud the world, those days of “Dark Africa” are gone too late dear!

    • @Ubermensch you are very right. When the West delayed going in during the Rwanda genocide the Africans were up in arms. Sorry Africa but to date ordinary Africans and the leaders complain and feel short changed, when the West take a position you complain. What would be suitable for Africans kanshi? Should the West be psychic?

  4. For the ordinary African citizens, ICC is the only caveat against African leaders’ brutality and impunity against their own peoples. Without the threat of ICC on their heads, African leaders will murder their people like flies.

It wasn’t long time ago when our President publicly ordered his troops to use live bullets against a section of his own people. That’s how far and wide the African leadership’s impunity can dangerously go.

  5. African Nations castigating ICC are hypocrites, violeters of fundamental human rights. No way the civilised pipo wud watch Rwanda, Kenya massacres perpetrators must be punished and ICC is the best incorrigible arbiter. It’s doing a commendable job.
