Mbita Chitala advises Kabimba to step down

Political analyst Mbita Chitala says Patriotic Front (PF) secretary-general Wynter Kabimba should resign or be “excused” from the party to save it from more damage.

Dr Chitala says it is evident that unless Mr Kabimba leaves the management of the PF, the ruling party will suffer more damage and could deter further foreign investments in Zambia.

Mr Kabimba could not be reached for a comment because his mobile phone went unanswered after several attempts to contact him.

In recent weeks, however, Mr Kabimba, who is also Justice Minister, has been quoted as saying he would not quit and that those demanding his removal are a clique of tribalists promoting anarchy in the party.

But Dr Chitala says for the good of the party and the country, Mr Kabimba should not be at the helm of the governing party.

“We who helped form this government are only hopeful that this instability can be quickly stopped by either Mr Kabimba himself excusing himself as has been demanded by PF cadres countrywide or the PF Central Committee should live to its mandate and excuse Mr Kabimba so that peace and harmony can return to the PF and that the PF government can successfully execute its development programme of our country,” he said.

In a statement to the Sunday Mail yesterday, Dr Chitala, one of the founder members of the MMD in 2001 and a supporter of the PF in the run-up to the 2011 elections, said events in the PF have potential to scare away investors.

“No clever investor will come to a country where there appears to be an insurrection such as the events in the PF appear to show now. It is obvious that many PF members do not want Mr Kabimba to continue,” Dr Chitala says.

He reckons the rebellion by PF members against Mr Kabimba is self-made and self-induced.

“He has been too drunk with power and forgotten about the virtues of being modest and grateful to colleagues in public affairs. All his work however good comes to naught for not appreciating the contribution of others and being too self-centred,” Dr Chitala says.

The former minister and diplomat says that by claiming that some PF leaders are corrupt and tribal and threatening to spill the beans, Mr Kabimba is committing an act of “self-preservation”.
“(It) appears to be an act of blackmail, which should not be tolerated. This is the same cry we have heard from many Africans when they fail in their good-for-nothing schemes,” Chitala said.
He said Zambians will always be united and thanks must go to patriotic nationalists who united the country.

Dr Chitala said the creation of parallel structures without the consent of the party is like instituting a creeping coup.

“Events in the PF are a good reminder that those of us who serve the public must always respect the people that voted us. And if people feel unhappy with us and demand our removal, however wrong or unfair they may be, we must oblige. We cannot force ourselves on them.

On Wednesday, President Sata called for an end to the infighting in PF and to instead concentrate on developing the country.

The following day Vice-President Guy Scott was quoted by the press saying Mr Kabimba is “here to stay because he is not expected to be removed as secretary general of the PF”.
There have been ceaseless demands that Mr Kabimba leaves the position. Party representatives from all 10 provinces met in Lusaka recently and resolved that for the good of the party Mr Kabimba steps down.

A member of the party’s central committee, Jean Kapata, put the demand in writing that Mr Kabimba be disciplined. This was backed by former PF Lusaka district information and publicity secretary Wellington Musonda.

  1. though i hate Kabimba ,,,,now it is too much of you guys ,,,this news is boring now, why do u want kabimba to leave his party? let us be fair in judging others dr…you were fired by RB and now you want to encourage WK

  2. There goes Mbita again!!! my people why do we hate other tribes so much? Iam now getting frustrated.

If there is a proper case for winter, let him be charged and the due process should follow. You dont just wake up and say he must step down just because in your mind he is gulity, what happenned to the rule of law?

What if people demostrate and say they want Sata out will Mbita say the same?

    • This is the very man Kabimba who was behind the call for the expulsion of his friends in PF. Did he avail to them space to prove their innocence? Kabimba used the very cadres to villify his opponents now it is him facing the same cadres. He may not be bemba but he is a very divisive element. Is it because power is so sweet or he will be irrelevant when he steps down hence not wanting to let go?

  3. This bizzare and craziness events wouldn’t happen in UNIP and MMD era only in the King Cobra era. President has totally failed to show leadership. Shame shemuno ba PF

  4. The writer does not make any mention of his excellence the Cobra who is allowing this confusion to grow in strength. Winter Kabimba will continue being a destabilizing force for as long as the Cobra is not going to act to put an end to this pandemonium. Sata needs to demonstrate leadership which is lacking at the moment.

  5. This is another conspiracy on the part of Micheal Sata. We knew him and he was labeled “man of Action” I once watched a ZNBC program soon after his ascendance to plot 1. The school children acted and called him man of action. What we have seen this far is a different man of action. Perhaps father Frank Bwalya was right when he said that “The Sata people voted for Died a long time ago”. We cannot have our country held to ransom by a party such as PF. The fact that they are in power means that all Zambians look to them to manage the affairs of our country properly and when they start fighting the country suffers and this is why people are complaining. But for those who cannot see beyond their noses it is busnes as usual.

  6. This news has become so boring such that I will suspend myself this morning from reading any news about Zambia for a fortnight. I will check the Brazil Zambia friendly from other soccer websites.

    • It is because Kabimba has jumped the Gun too early to expose his presidential appetite two years into the mandate of a sitting president Kabimba begins to plot, propagate and organise how to become the next president. People we have running mandated Govt needing partriotic support even as party cadres, opposition or non-partisan we are obliged to ensure this popularly elected Govt delivers its manifesto. Tribalism aside, have to strongly oppose whoever has to derail this mandate. GBM is equally presidential hopeful, but not as over-zealous as Kabimba. Please give chance to PF to govern in peace towards genuine development up to the expiry of its present mandate!

  7. Big lip has also joined the band wagon. Loud mouth winter in big trouble only muzungu opusa and crook Fred on his side. Only time will tell if winter will survive the ceaseless on attack with Sata not protecting.

  8. Anthony Mukwita on the payroll of Mwambas (PS and minister of defence).
    Chitala looking for handouts.
    The original Mbala Mafia.
    Failed bank project
    Failed stone business
Failed Libya posting and hallucination with Gaddafi
Failed aspiration to become Minister of Finance.
Permanent Failure joins the bandwagon of another Permanent Failure (PF) to do ‘wako ni wako’ dance.

  9. MBITA CHITALA go to the toilet and s.h.i.t. What credibility do you have to advise Kabimba. You MMD chaps are infact lucky, in a dictatorship you should have been executed for the numbers of people you killed between 1991 and 2001. You are a murderer MBITA CHITALA, don’t take our quietness for granted. Concentrate on your tattered reputation and ARVs.

    • Now I know why politicians don’t want to develop our healthcare facilities. They will never use them for fear of their medical information being divulged in public fora like this one. So they say “fvck ’em, let them roast, we will go to SA, India, and UK on their backs!”

    • I hope you this was said tongue in cheek. Derrick and Mbita Chitala are one and the same person. He saw the light and did away with a Western name and started using a traditional Zambian name.

  10. “On Wednesday, President Sata called for an end to the infighting in PF and to instead concentrate on developing the country.”
Why are people still commenting on this issue let alone continue to demand the removal or stepping down of an S.G. This is total disrespect for the President.
I believe the call by the president was a way of saying give us time to look into this matter.

  11. In the kangaroo courts of monkeyland, the accused is presume guilty until proven innocent. Hence the ongoing outcry that Kabimba must abdicate his powerful party position of secretary-general of PF. It’s clearly not to their liking that he is in that position.

  12. Mbita the man you should advise is Sata and not Kabimba. Sata is the one who should be excused as you put it before he damages Zambia further. Kabimba is trying his best to put order in PF which is orderless because the head is rotten. PF is a failed party and because of Sata Zambia is becoming a failed state. Your analysis is failed too. Anyone can see that the problem is Sata who appears to have no clue how to run a country. If you are looking for a job from Sata, you should ask your friends there who have been very disappointed with his style of leadership. Sukulu is important and to leave the country to this grade seven is the greatest mistake the country made.

  13. God is an equaliser, though I am not a lubinda fan, what winter did to him was uncalled for. Chaona muzako chapita mawa chili pal I I we. By the same measure bwana! Tapalati.

  14. Pride comes before a fall.Ba Derick, I thought you had retired from politics..?cos you and Dean failed us during the MMD era.Let The Presido resolve this issue..gather evidence and then later make a decision. As for the SG if its true , kindly resign on moral grounds beacuse we cannot let the sleeping dog continue to lie.

  15. our father who at in heaven come and remove kabimba from his position, there’s difference between lubinda and kabimba.
apakomaila nondo ninshi pali ubulema, nangu mushyebwa ale namafi kubuko.
