President Michael Sata is tomorrow expected to hold a public rally immediately after the 49th independence anniversary investiture ceremony at Kitwe playing field in the Copperbelt province.

This will be the first time the President will grace an independence anniversary commemoration out of Lusaka since independence in 1964.

Minister of youth and Sports Chishimba Kambwili said in an interview with ZANIS when he visited the venue of the function that the President will be in the Copperbelt province to commemorate the 49th independence celebration and address a public rally.

Mr. Kambwili has since called on the people of Copperbelt province to turn out in large numbers the President’s public rally.

He said the President was expected to explain government policies during his address to the people of the Copperbelt province.

Mr. Kambwili, who is also Roan Member of Parliament in Luanshya and Patriotic Front national youth chairperson said the President’s decision to shift independence anniversary commemoration to the Copperbelt was an indication that he regards all provinces and district as equally and important.

And Secretary to the Cabinet Roland Msiska, his Permanent Secretary Anne Mwewa, Deputy Inspector General of Police Solomon Jere, and many other officials this afternoon visited the venue to check on the preparations.

At the time of their visit, all the marquees that will accommodate invited guests had already been set up.

Zambia this year commemorates its 49th independence anniversary under the theme, ‘commemorating God’s favour of Zambia’s 49 years of independence for continued peace, unity, democracy, patriotism and prosperity.”

  1. Seems like every annointed time is a chance for a “political moment ” for this kolwestan. And get the real Uhuru from Kenya to show you how to celebrate “turning down insensitive raises”

    • press conference or state of nation address would make more sense!! some one please advise ´Sata that he is not an opposition party leader, he is a president of Zambia,, addressing Zambia is what he is suposed to do not addressing a small portion of the zambia population in kitwe,,,but zoona kaponya ni kaponya whatever happens

    • Sir you can’t change history HE Sata is our President and we are to respect and honour that office.HE Sata will Definitely leave a mark. For your own information Cbelt has produced great men and we are greatful to The Lord no wonder the Bemba launguage is spreading like fire it’s second to English pa Zed so no jealous baba only enemies of the state will comment negative stuff .Zambia is our country cheers

    • This is why HH finds it unpalatable to attend uhuru celebrations bcoz it will be a PF rally and not a unifying “national convention” He could hold it in Monze or Livingstone if he truly wanted national healing.

    • Who cares whteher Hakaivotele Humwine attends or not. Let him give his 100, 000 plus to his tonga relatives because he will remain their. A tonga bull with nothing to show for. The less he attends these national programmes, the better other parties are getting better. After all the fight is between MMD and PF and not ngombe ilede ( a place of the sleeping cattle. Let him sleep and wake up in 2021.
      )

    • @cindy
awe,, this might be rare but it wrong in every way!!..political rally on indepencence day are meant for small people like Father Bwalya, mulongoti who are trying very hard to get noticed!!!

Even just going to kitwe itself, is questionable why not Ndola which is the provincial capital??.. the president must address the nation and share his vision ( if at all he has one) for country to the people not campagning!!

    • This whole thing about George Chellah being Saulosi is beginning to make a lot of sense. For curious mind Google “Saoulosi” tag Lusaka Times and read all the comments he has made up to date. You will catch some of his Diploma English.

    • ….you guys are not in opposition anymore.

      Eish, your excitement……

      U make me laugh!!! LOL!!!

    • The problem with your idol is that he is likely to just spend time insulting members of the opposition instead of articulating issues that concern the nation and further the image of his party.

    • @ Saulosi, did you read what Ndobo wrote above? He asked a head scratching question, let me put it better ” Why Sata decide to address people in Copper-belt, and why not in Batoseland or Monze so he can show some Zambianism”? The best he could do is to be on neutral ground that is the TV.
We know he running away from HH in Lusaka.

    • Now you are missing him even in western province? I thought you guys through the lungnynambo something said you can throw him out and create your own state. Who is stopping you? Now you want to talk to the president of the republic of Zambia who has support from everywhere. Go ahead and take over the government. Nobody is stopping you.

  2. “President’s decision to shift independence anniversary commemoration to the Copperbelt was an indication that he regards all provinces and district as equally and important” Next year he’ll be back in Lusaka and the year after.

  3. of all the first ladies zed has ever had,did you know that tandiwe banda is the only first lady who was never asociated with aldutery while in state house?of all the presidents that zed ever had,kk is the only one who married once in his lifetime?

  4. Sir you can’t change history HE is our President and we are to respect and honour that office.HE Sata will Definitely leave a mark. For your own information Cbelt has produced great men and we are greatful to The Lord no wonder the Bemba Laughage is spreading like fire it’s second to English pa Zed so no jealous baba only enemies of the state like you will comment negative stuff Zambia is our country cheers.

    • Your kind of knowledge makes me wonder if you and Sata are ever thinking at all. Firstly, yes we can never change history. It has already been observed that Sata is not a mature leader at all. As you say, this will remain historical. Your boasting about bemba language being used by many people, does not feed or help the now suffering masses. Was that the main reason that Sata and your PF were gunning to do to us? Only to impose the Bemba language and nothing else? Will Kabimba and other tribes like your statement?

  5. This should be welcome news except that once that mouth opens, it is everyone’s guess what is going to come out of it. He has not been and has never been coherent unless he is shooting down someone or spitting out insults. Articulating policy has never been his strongest point, hence, he is more likely to appeal to people who lack depth in analyzing issues. Let us wait for this time tomorrow to find out if anything of substance will come out of the man. The timing of the event is very questionable.

  6. Independence na rally pamo pene ninshi this time around ba police nabafula to atend al functions tht wl b going on tomoro plus raly.

  7. How does this fool turn a supposedly national function where other Opp leaders, CSOs, diplomats would be there into a rally? Why not initiate a rally at your own time. Please don’t sabotage a national event into a PF noise making time. I only wised we all stayed home. Attend at your own risk

  8. we need press conference, I really what is left of Zambians integrity and the ability to protect the people and its heritage,,,

  9. Sata shall spend money from his pockets and not waste national resources on useless functions that will make PSs, MPs and cabinet ministers, DCs +Police to travel and waste a lot of national resources.

Sata is a waste and a drag on national resources. He is a “Tick” living on the blood of hard working ordinary Zambians.

  10. Gee a rally? I mean seriously? He is not an opposition leader anymore, he doesn’t need to address a rally. But he should be applauded for overcoming his glossophobia where Zambians are concerned. And has he lost so much support in Lusaka that he has chosen to go to the copperbelt – the first time in 49years that a head of state shuns independence day celebrations in the capital. This Presidential reasoning leaves many of us shaking our heads.

  11. Good evening

I’m asking myself what’s wrong with addressing a Head of State addressing a public rally?

It somehow reminds me of a grandmaster who rams the grandstand in a stadium as compared to an ordinary artiste performing on a stage show. Anyway, let’s wait and hear what he has to say.

  12. The opposition must brace themselves for Sata will surely take a swipe at them. Campaign 2016 has begun and the choice of Copperbelt for independence anniversary commemoration is more than the bufi explanation that it is an indication he regards all provinces and district as equal and important. The truth of the matter is that the rising discontent in the Copperbelt is of concern. The opposition must take note of what will be said and counter it in constructive debate.

  13. Please go and enumerate all the projects
your government is undertaking – roads,
dual carriage ways, universities, bridges etc
hunger alleviation will follow when enough investors
are attracted to our beloved country.

  14. Statehouse,,I hope you have done your home work, and the strategy is well planned we don’t want unpleasant surprises.Independence day is a national day & is better left that way…

  15. Why articulate gov’t policies at a public rally on Independence day?Independence day is for unity commemorating our freedom fighters… The location, the setting and the speaker is just wrong….if Sata is eager to articulate policy why not hold a press conference at a hotel in Kitwe then go for his rally.

  16. There is no real independence to celebrate in Zambia. White clonialists have been replaced by black oppressors. Free all political prisoners – the innocent Barotse prisoners. Stop the uneven distribution of development and raping of the rest of provinces resources to develop one province Mchinga and Sata’s clan and tribesmen. Abash Sata, PF and Post newspaper!

  17. Ndobo,

You must understand why Kitwe was chosen as the venue. It is more centrally located on the Copperbelt and every town is approximately equidistant to Kitwe than Ndola. This would therefore allow more residents to attend the event in Kitwe than Ndola. It would for example be cheaper for a resident of Chililabombwe who wants to attend the event to travel to Kitwe rather than Ndola. Apart from this, Kitwe is the second largest city in Zambia and deserves this honour. At a more sentimental level, Sata grew up and spent most of his productive early life in Kitwe in the 1950s and 1960s and regards Kitwe as his home town just like Mwanawasa regarded Ndola as his home town. So why shouldn’t he hold this event in his home town?

  18. Now we now that the whole thing is nothing but a rally in Kitwe on a national day. who is acting irresponsible in this case? This day is supposed to be a national day and not politics of a party, PF in this case.

  19. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE PRESIDENT ADDRESSING A RALLY ON INDEPENDENCE DAY. IT’S NOT A PF RALLY BUT ONE THAT IS NATIONAL IN NATURE.

  20. It’s a welcome move. Though we expect it to be a national rally in character than a PF rally. Next year it should be held in Choma.
