The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested suspended Copperbelt Police Commissioner Mary Tembo for abuse of Authority of office contrary to section 21 (1) of the Anti-Corruption Act No.3 of 2012.

Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) Public Relations Manager Timothy Moono disclosed this in a press statement made available to ZANIS in Ndola today.

Mr. Moono said Tembo, 53 of house number 4, Bokafu Street, Ndola has been arrested and charged with two counts of abuse of authority of office.

Particulars of the offence are that in the first count, it is alleged that Ms. Tembo, on dates unknown but between the May 1 and June 30, 2013 abused authority of her office as Commissioner of police for the Copperbelt Province by obtaining a Toyota Corolla registration number AAX 5716 from Grizzly Mining Limited, which she registered in her names thereby obtaining benefits for herself.

Mr. Moono noted that in the second count it is alleged that Tembo on dates unknown but between November 1 and December 31, 2012 in Ndola, abused her authority of office as Commissioner of Police by asking Grizzy Mining Limited, a private company, to fix her personal vehicle namely Toyota Cressida registration F 100.

He said Tembo took her vehicle to the said company using public resources.

The Public Relations Manager further noted that Tembo has been released on bond and will appear in court on November 18, 2013.

Mr. Moono has since urged all public officers to be upright in their execution of duty adding that they should conduct themselves diligently and with integrity at all times.

    • @Ndobo, please stop drugging GBM into issues he has learn yet, I mean such street fights/attacks are known by Sata, Kabimba, Mumembe… and maybe Mutembo.
GBM knows crimes like those of Mary Tembo, bribing police officers on road-blocks.

    • There’s only one difference between her & her colleagues, or her and her bosses – She was careless enough to be caught. Otherwise they are all birds of the same feather…

    • AAX 5716 is registration for which year? 1995? I think there is something else.

Can someone show me the picture for this car, Guys this is a corolla registered 20 years ago when it had already done 15years in Japan. God help us!!!!

    • @ek not that I support either GBM or Kabimba but please help us by providing evidence of the crimes they committed. Mare allegations cannot be acted upon. There was enough evidence against Ms Tembo to warrant her arrest.

  1. The only true Judge is God. He knows the truth. Let the law prevail. This should serve as a lesson to others holding big positions. No one is above the law.

  2. Its intresting to note how the law is being applied in zed. why has Kabimba,GBM been spared lets hope Bob Sichinga will also be investigated and if found wanting will aslo made to account.

  3. Problem with ACC is that they are not credible, only arresting those not in good books with SATA. There are many PF members who have done worse things but still running free and stealing more. Hope whatever case will be fair with No bias. Let this be a start of cleaning true corruption.

  4. These are minor charges and I hope she will get out of this mess. She has been smeared terribly. I wonder why serious cases are left rotting and instead pounce or irrelevant issues. This is not a case that the ACC should be wasting their resources on, there is merely no case. Get a good lawyer and counter sue them afterwards!

  5. What about those involved in the fertilizer scam….?we talking about ACC being fair in appliying the laws to all citizens-no matter what colour whether FBI or otherwise.

  6. Zambians! – You are difficult people to please and you always thrive on criticism. I would have thought arresting a Police Commisioner on corruption charges should really send a strong message to the country on the fight against it. let us support the govt on what they are doing and if we disagree with them lets resolt to our democratic right and vote in 2016.

  7. Well, what? Cressida and Corolla , what business are we talking about? Go for GBM and Wynter ba ACC, though uyu woman was very rude also, I guess maybe that is what is paying for, rudeness and not corruption.

    Bakapokola mu Ndola bayanjile bingi!

  8. St . Jude Guy Scott was not prejudging anyone. Banda was arrested and put in jail hence his comment that she would have become dark being she is an FBI. It’s good she is out on bail though. Jail and prison, as much as they may be similar are two different things

  9. Men are such***** in Zambia, why targeting women why not Kamimba and all those policemen who even chenga when you give a 5kwacha even saying ” but madam we are five of us this wont be enough to share” what a scam!

    • Prejudiced against men? Then we can take Mary Tembo for a gender change operation but mind you, we are always told that a man represents an individual, and a woman represents the whole nation. So tell me, who has the propensity to be corrupt?

  10. Why are many of u bloggers fond of mentioning Kabimba’ s name whenever you want to write something, is he the only law breaker in the PF or there are many of you ? Don’ t mention other people’ s names out of hate simply because may be he/ she’ s not your tribe mate or relative. It’ s time to be truthful with life because God, the true judge knows what is at the helm of your evil hearts. You don’ t feed Kabimba neither does he need the dirty food that you live on out your poverty. Kabimba is rich, he’ s got a farm and a lot of animals which can take him a long way unlike you who live on maggots or catapillars which is food for birds. Out of your poverty striken life you hate an innocent person who has got no case against you. Fake !!!!!!!!

  11. When individuals who are supposed to uphold the law are corrupt themselves, any wonder we are still in “The Dark Ages”
Lets not be mislead, corruption does happen in the developed world as well, but the difference is leaders DO NOT have absolute powers, therefore, if one is found wanting, they are prosecuted & face the full might of the law, whereas in Zambia, the President intimidates Anti Corruption officers, bullying them to seek his permission before arresting, & investigating corrupt Government officials.
Of course being appointed by the President, & knowing not to bite the finger that feeds, the A.C.C, ends up being an inept rubber stamp. Hope more Corrupt people especially leaders, could be investigated as in the above case.
    THERE ARE MANY!

  12. “Toyota Corolla registration number AAX 5716”?
This must be a wreck of a car. AAX vehicles were registred during the period 1999-2000. Assuming it was bought brand new in the year 2000, then this corolla has pounded 13 years on Zambian roads. Surely it’s not worth going to jail over such ramshackle.

  13. to be honest with you i dont see corruption here think twice before you judge a person it look like Sata is a chief AAC PROSECUTOR please before you take this lady to jail for a cheap car think twice we have senior politician who are more corrupt than italian Mafia…investigate 85% of your ministers and ask their bank statement for the past 5 years then you will found out who is more corrupt than the poor of the poorest kapokola it is time to act before the new government of HH walk in.

  14. The question we should be asking is what favours did she do for Grizzly Mining for them to give her a car and fix another?

  15. AAX 5716 is registration for which year? 1995? I think there is something else.

Can someone show me the picture for this car, Guys this is a corolla registered 20 years ago when it had already done 15years in Japan. God help us!!!!

  16. Mary Tembo created a lot fo problems for herself by fighting with the junior ranks, she for got to be a team captain and failed to practice what she was preaching. Good action by ACC so that others including our minister should know that if you run after two hares you will catch neither.
Lesson two, ACC should investigate all leaders mentioned to practicing corruption.

    • yes, she was egocentric. we ve a lady like that at our work place. she pretends to be holier than thou. But recently, she caught pants down negotiating for a jeep for her to downsize a project worth K1.5m to. 5m. Thanks to the developer he refused and reported her. but alas, our boss is still protecting & shielding her. we are all suprised. so women are just as corrupt as anyone else.

  17. @NSILIBI ZILALUMA

I HAD NOT BEEN TO LUAPULA SINCE 1976 UNTIL 4 MONTHS AGO WHEN I DROVE ALONG THE VALLEY TO PUTA / CHELENGE VIA KAWAMBWA.

I WAS FLABBERGASTED AT HOW HIGHLY THE FOLKS THERE REGARD THIS KABIMBA MAN!…

THEY TOLD ME THE FELLA BROOKS NO NONSENSE WHEN IT COMES TO CORRUPTION, DISCIPLINE AND THE LAW.
IN FACT ONE PHD GUY TOLD ME, THAT HAD IT NOT BEEN FOR THIS GUY, THE PRESIDENT COULD HAVE SUCCUMBED TO THE SILLY DEMANDS TO HAVE THE CHIEF JUSTICE REMOVED.

NO WONDER EVERYONE IN THE OPPOSITION AND IN PF IS SCARED OF THIS GUY!

  18. Other Zambians hold a different but valid opinion on the state the nation under the PF “rule”. If you happen to a Mary Mubanga or Mary Chanda, you will be covered by the prevailing Presidential Decree to the effect the ACC cannot investigate cases of corruption without the permission of President Sata.

The case in point is the plight of our dear RB & Family, Dora Siliya, Sebastian Zulu, Maxwell Mwale, Prof Chirwa etc, etc.

There are serious cases of corruption involving senior Politicians and Civil Servants who are untouchables because they are protected by State House. The Five-Year (2011-2016) season is the era for feasting by the worst crooks on the land. One has to be intelligent to comprehend these sentiments representing the plight of many non-Bemba plus non Sala/Soli…

  19. How about the company giving the bribe nothing for them. ..she is only being persecuted for impounding Fred Me’embe’s post trucks that had stolen copper on them. …what happened to that story?

  20. Very tricky waters she has found herself in but Mary of all people i mean being Commissioner is aware and knowledgeable enough to know about rules or implications of receiving gifts and other forms of hospitality. By accepting that gift she overlooked what the principle of integrity imposes and that’s being straightforward and honest in professional dealings. She also compromised what the principle of objectivity imposes which is one must act in a manner which will not cloud their professional judgement because of bias or undue pressure like influence from others in this case Grizzly Mining Ltd. She is in trouble but anything is possible. Some big political figures fighting for control of government will protect her besides corruption is nothing new but a culture thing like some right.

  21. Dr. Doom your analysis is very good, actually sounds like you are an accountant. Ba Mery sunk so low as to accept a toyota collora. Surely a commissioner of police to be given a collora is a shame to me as a citizen of zambia. If Grizzly mining had constructed a house for her it could make some sense
