DEC nabs two French nationals, nine others for trafficking in cannabis

The Drug Enforcement Commission in Eastern Province has arrested two French nationals for trafficking in cannabis.

This is contained in a statement to ZANIS in Lusaka today by Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) Public Relations Officer Theresa Katongo.

She said the arrested people include Muller William and Martial Houston both 28 years of age for trafficking in 10 grammes of cannabis each.

Ms. Katongo said the duo who are waiters by profession were apprehended at Mwami Border in Eastern Province on a Lusaka bound bus as they were coming from Malawi.

Meanwhile, the Commission in Central Province has arrested nine people for trafficking in various quantities of cannabis after conducting an operation in Luano valley in Mboloma’s area.

Ms. Katongo said among those arrested are Analyosi Chisenga, 38,of Mboloma area for trafficking in 36.2kg of cannabis, Evaristo Mwamba,45,also of the same area for trafficking in 27.4kg of cannabis.

She said in the same area DEC has also arrested Methias Mumba, 38, for trafficking in 18.4 kg of cannabis.

Ms. Katongo said others arrested include Patrick Cement, 37, a peasant farmer of Kampoko village in Moboloma area for trafficking in 17.6kg of cannabis and Alex Kasonde , 29, of Mulungwe village in Mkushi for trafficking in 800g of cannabis .

She said all the suspects will appear in court soon

  1. What is the justification for these inhumane and prejudiced laws against a beneficial plant that has been used by Africans for centuries? Europeans arrived in Africa and along with them their ridiculous laws outlawing the utilization of this miraculous herb. Who the hell are they to dictate to Africans what plants they can and cannot use?
    Morocco is taking a serious look at legalising cannabis and if they do they will make millions of dollars per year from its production and sale.
    The rest of Africa should follow suit especially now that America has states which are starting to legalise cannabis for recreational use by adults over 21.
    Why are Africans supporting a law which has inherently racist origins? That is a question that I would love to have answered.

    • Because they are white, such menial jobs are off limits? Westerners are more adventurous. They don’t wait till they earn tons of money to embark on an adventure, they work their way through.
