Seven University of Zambia (UNZA) students who were supposed to take plea in a charge of idle and disorderly conduct today did not do so because their two colleagues were absent.
Over 20 UNZA students were at the weekend arrested for allegedly participating in a riot. They were subsequently charged with one count of idle and disorderly conduct contrary to section 178 (f) of the penal code chapter 87 of the laws of Zambia.
It is alleged that the students jointly and whilst acting together conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace.
When the matter came up for plea before magistrate Ireen Wishimanga, two of the students were not available in court when their names were called out.
This prompted the court to adjourn the matter to Wednesday, December 18, 2013 for taking of plea to allow the two other accused persons to avail themselves before the court.
Student’s police bonds have since been extended.
Yesterday, 18 students and a chef at one of the restaurants at UNZA pleaded not guilty to one count of idling and disorderly conduct in the Lusaka magistrate court.
The 18 students appeared in court in two separate groups.
One group, which consisted of 12 students and a chef, appeared before Resident Magistrate Lameck Ng’ambi and trial for them has been set for January 16, 2014.
The other group of six students appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Mwaka Mikalile and will appear for mention on January 17, 2014.

We humbly ask the police FORCE to respect others. The FORCE, do not teargas the clinic and the residences. Twamipapata. Some of our homes shelter human beings who suffer from asthma. PLEASE ACT LIKE HUMANS AND NOT ANIMALS. WE ARE NOT RIOTERS!!! Are you a caring police force or POLICE SERVICE?
You are useless punks. No wonder you rank 66 on the continent. Had you been blessed with half a brain of a monkey, you wouldn’t have voted for the imbicels that are now in government. You chose a retard over a graduate. Stop complaining and accept what you voted for.
