People’s Party President Mike Mulongoti has supported calls by MMD leader Nevers Mumba for President Sata to call for fresh elections.
Mr Mulongoti said Dr Mumba’s statement should be taken seriousness in the interest of democracy.
He said President Sata should seriously consider dissolving Parliament and calling for new elections.
Mr Mulongoti said in an interview that the cost of holding the upcoming by elections and for those seats that are yet to be nullified is equivalent to the cost of holding a general election.
“Dr Mumba is therefore correct to demand that the country abandons this selfish expensive exercise aimed at creating a Parliamentary majority for the PF.”
“If the PF seems it fit to hold by elections in 50 seats constituencies then it is only fair that the House be dissolved and the nation goes to a general election. You cannot have a House who two thirds of MPs have had their seats petitioned.
It raises questioned about the legitimacy of the House,” Mr Mulongoti said.
He added, “Just on the issue of costs, Dr Mumba is correct that the cost is astronomical and goes to derail the development of this country.”
Mr Mulongoti observed that a simple cost analysis reveals that the cost of holding elections for all the petitioned seats shows that it is almost equivalent to the cost of holding a general election.
On Saturday, MMD leader Nevers Mumba held a State of the Nation address from his Kabulonga residence where he demanded for the holding of fresh elections due to the record number of MMD nullified seats.
But State House moved quickly to dismiss Dr Mumba’s demands that the statement lacked merit.
Dr mumba is right when we look at the cost of by elections.
Pwetete Party; what the hell!
Lets have a recall petition to get this ruinous and visionless PF villagers outta state hse.Let Sata serve his 2nd term @chimbokaila.
It is very unlikely that the Sata ted government can accept to go for an early election. If the opposition is really serious about this matter, all OPPOSITION MPS should reflect on this statement and resign.Dr. Mumba has made very valid observations which every progressive Zambia must support.
Am one of those people who is fed up with these by elections nonsense.
Taking Democracy seriously we need to see the present democratically elected Govt serve its full term and mandate. Numerous bye-elections are indicative of how corrupt the trounced MMD at all cost tried to win 2011elections, only God intervened. As for the trainee future president Mr. Mulongoti hold the appetite for the presidency till 2016. It is funny, when Court rules in favour of opposition it is justified, but when it legally rules in favour of ruling Party courts are labelled corrupt under influence of ruling Party. I believe even if we went for new elections tomorrow the opposition would lose pants down because God willed 2011-2016 to PF. Probably only thereafter would another party if ever at all emerge as winners.
Mike keep making noise…but you know deep down that can NEVER happen. But its nice to hear from you every now and then haha
Capacity to store information is quite limited in many people. Its not long ago, we saw and knew how corrupt MMD under RB was. Taking legal action was the only was anyone could and prove the rampt corruption that exisited. Legal action or petitions were made and results are being seen. But because legal process takes long, that small capacity to remember that corruption was there, has been forgotten! Its unfortunate the process is long and costly, but a wrong is a wrong and must be corrected. That will be a basis for better political morals, no corruption. Sata cannot give up his presidency and loose his MPs tenure before the scheduled general elections, just because of corrupt acts of MMD. Illutions.
“People’s Party President!
WHERE IS YOUR HQ SITUATED?
SERIOUSLY, I WANT TO SUBMIT MY CV FOR YOUR PARTY SPOKESPERSON.
he is the spokesperson himself
No worries we can have fresh bye elections for all MPs and not presidential elections. Moreover, even if we say that we go for early general elections, which opposition candidate can bit the cobra? we don’t have opposition materials for president.
Zambia, a country full of empty tins where the educated cannot even exibit their profesionalism in the running affairs of their government. This is enough evidence that even the so called graduates function as mere clerks who don’ t play a major role in the decision making processes. How on earth can you accept a situation where the government in power decides to suppress the people’ s power by its dictatorial tendencies ? Only in Zambia and Zimbabwe it can happen because their people, even those with powers are cowards.
Many times the educated ones in Zambia just scheme how st steal and build a house or buy a car. That our mental set problem. Remember MMD under FTJ and the so many educated ministers who just ended up destroying the parastatal companies. They stripped even ZCCM. Its a long way many educated fellas start thinking of real national development.
No general elections soon until 2016, mufisanji amambala wa opozishoni? The Pf won the erections through a hard way we can’t just give it out like that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Anyoko,
‘Erections’ really?
Too many by erections!
Mumba is right!
Defence minister Geoffrey Mwamba has with immediate effect resigned from his Cabinet position.
Mwamba announced his resignation today from his Kasama constituency residence where he was visiting the NOT Gazetted Bemba Royal Chief, the Mwine Lubemba Chitimukulu.
‘m sure he went to consult and also inform the chief about his intention and to reveal how heartless Sata is.
Ba kabilo sort out SATA, u don’t have black magic kwena!!!
@ Anyoko, I agree with u , the PF won the erections and not elections by a large majority – that’ s why the majority of women are now mourning.
mwalitumpa bamambala nama “ERECTIONS” yenu kwati kuti mwayawina!!!!!
