Share

A TWO year old boy of Nchelenge district in Luapula province has died after being electrocuted.
The mother of the deceased Charity Mwila and the Zambia Electricity Supply Corporation (ZESCO) Nchelenge branch manager Chibesa Kangwa separately confirmed the development to ZANIS in an interview in Nchelenge today.

Ms. Mwila of Nkomba village in chief Kambwali’s area a few metres from the heart of the Kashikishi business centre identified her deceased son as Solomon Kapotwe who died this morning.

She said her son met his fate whilst playing in the yard around 09: 30 hours when he made contact with a live wire carrying electricity.

And ZESCO branch manager for Nchelenge Chibesa Kangwa said an on the spot check at the scene has revealed that the accident was caused by dangling wires of an illegal connection.

Mr. Kangwa said a cable measuring about twenty meters was illegally connected from the meter box of the main house to the servant’s quarter.

He explained that the cable which was partially buried in the ground had a good piece of its one point five live wire unsecured.

Mr. Kangwa has since advised the residents of Nchelenge to refrain from illegal power tapping to avoid unnecessary deaths.

    • The ones who made the illegal connections should be charged and prosecuted. They caused the death of this child plus endangering the lives of people plus making the illegal electric connection.

    • Especially, zesco and the one who illegally connected to the wires. Zesco have computers to detect such illegal connections and other malpractices.

  1. Too bad for the young boy !! This is my home town and i feel sad.

Zesco, please ensure that we have an inspectorate team in every area so that these illegal connections can be lessened. Anyway, it’s not Zesco’s fault.

May the soul of the young boy rest in eternal peace.
