The Foundation for Democratic Process (FODEP) has described as grossly unfair the suspension of former Defence Minister Geoffrey Mwamba from the ruling Patriotic Front.
FODEP Executive Director, McDonald Chipenzi tells Qfm that it is extremely unfair for the Patriotic Front to suspend Mr. Mwamba from the party for merely resigning from his ministerial position.

Mr. Chipenzi says the move by the governing party is an indication of a lack of intra-party democracy in the party.

He states that the Patriotic Front being the governing party should be in the forefront of promoting democracy.

Mr. Chipenzi says he foresees the expulsion of the Kasama central Member of Parliament from the Patriotic Front thereby leading to a by-election which Zambians are tired of.

  1. We want him to address the nation regarding the ZNS contracts whether it is true or not, let him clear the air first, supporting him is not a problem. And were is UPND and MMD, they are quiet about the ZNS revalations, had MGB been in GOVT today as a minister you would have heard. People would have climbed on top of the Hero’s stadium to make noise.

  2. Resigning because of declaring interest on an issue is not what a party can expel it member from it. This man is simply saying he resigned because of the issue involves his relative, his extended family, the paramount Chieftainship. Its not easy to see your uncle who is the right heir to the throne being blocked, being unrecognised and being mistreated. GBM is right on principle. If we can do politics based on principles, then there can not be this rush to expel GBM from PF. The man did indeed even contribute a lot to usher in PF to power. Some of the loud guys did very little. Give GBM a benefit of doubt. He has not done a punishable offense. Politics built on quick sand is wrong, we need principles.

  3. It’ s me who gave the instruction to the PF Northern Province Committee to have him expelled from the party. He betrayed me and I don’ t need him in my party.

  4. If this suspension is done in a transparent manner and there are no hidden agenda and that is done according to the law, it is fine. Now I doubt because this government is full of hate and bitterness and the PF president who is also the Republican president quite on these issues and one wonders whether these issues have no blessing from the head of state, if it is so God forbid.

  5. African politics are extremely backwards. Guys, just as the President can appoint and fire his Ministers, Ministers also have a right to resign. Nothing wrong with that! why should PF demonise a man who resigns and not demonise the one who fires? But ba PF??? so you are telling me that once one is appointed he is in ‘JAIL’ until the appointing authority releases (fires) him??

  6. Collective agreements are difficult especially if againest your family GBM be strong and avoid unnesessary publicity.Sad for boma inonge,we are looking.

  7. I agree with Fodep interpretation of the facts surrounding the suspension of GBM. It seems to me that the Provincial office bearers were acting emotionally. In the first place, senior party officials must not be suspended by junior officials. It is a mater of protocol and administrative procedure. In any organization, the management hierarchy needs to be respected. Secondly, there is no need to rush to suspend a senior member of the Party. It is better for the Provincial party leadership to address any allegations, concerns, doubts or recommendations to the Central Committee. Third, Parliament must enjoy full authority and respect from political parties and from members of the public. The announcement that Kasama Central had no MP was an act of misinformation. Stop it!
