PF Matero Constituency Member of Parliament, (MP) Miles Sampa has declared Matero ‘No pit latrine’ area.
Officially launching the third connection works of the Maiteneke Water and Sanitation project being undertaken by the Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company (LWSC) in his constituency today, Mr Sampa urged Matero residents to be paying their water bills regularly and avoid vices of theft and vandalism.
Mr Sampa observed that unplanned settlement, dilapidated infrastructures and poor culture of bill payment by the residents have contributed to blocked sewer systems thereby denying the residents accessing water and posing hazardous diseases like cholera and diarrhoea.
Mr Sampa challenged the water utility firm to consider scaling up the project to other six constituencies in the city. Under the Maiteneke project, 600 households would benefit.
Mr Sampa, who is also Commerce Deputy Minister, said government shall continue to deliver on its mandate to improve the living conditions of the people in the country.
He said government is aware of the challenges faced by LWSC but reiterated the PF’s commitment to reviewing water reforms and invest in the water sector by providing quality clean safe piped water and sanitation services to the people through collaboration with its
partners.
The Deputy Minister also disclosed that government has sourced U$S355 million from the US Government through the Millennium Challenge Corporation to invest in the water sector.
And speaking earlier, LWSC Managing Director, George Ndongwe, disclosed that the 13.2 kilometre stretch Maiteneke phase-one project has gobbled K3.7 million.
Mr Ndongwe commended Government and the national water regulator, the National Water Supply and Sanitation Council, for the support his organization was receiving.
Passing a vote of thanks, James Sichone, a Matero resident, thanked the Matero MP for his hard work that had enabled the people in the community to benefit.
Pastor Sichone said the welfare of the people would be changed following the rehabilitation of sewerage services that dates way back in 1960s.
Meanwhile,Miles Sampa has donated pens and pencils to Kasamba Primary School in his constituency.
The donation is worth thousands of Kwacha.
The MP says he is aware of the challenges some vulnerable families go through to educate their children.
Mr Sampa directed each pupil at the school get a pen and pencil each.
He disclosed this in Lusaka today when he addressed school pupils at Kasamba Primary School grounds.
Mr Sampa, who is also Commerce Deputy Minister, warned school authorities at the institution against abusing the donation.
He further pledged to assist the school with other education materials to ease the burden especially on the learners.
He said government is determined to improve the education standards in the country and urged the parents and guardians to rally behind the able leadership of President Micheal Sata.
The Deputy Minister further urged the parents to support the new education vernacular curriculum policy introduced by Government.
And Kasamba Primary School Head Teacher, Isaac Kaping’a, commended the area MP for the gesture in improving the education sector.
Mr Kaping’a, however, appealed to government through Mr Sampa to consider giving his school a bus for conducting education tours.
He said pupils need to be supported by well meaning Zambians at individual level and should not be left to government alone.
He is actually good looking in my opinion
I would vote him
Thanks
This is so sad, 400 people checked out the story, and all walked away with no comments. Kekekekekekekeke… Sata’s family.
Meaning there are no pit latrines in Matero or that people can’t build them anymore? Ninshi people will be going to Sampa’s house to do their business? Please clarify.
I believe miles is one of the few USEFUL MPs in the PF. He is just in the wrong party and related to wrong people.
#1 Mufyoto learn to shut up!
“Mr Sampa observed that unplanned settlement, dilapidated infrastructures and poor culture of bill payment by the residents have contributed to blocked sewer systems” – missquoted or properly quoted; speaks like uncle Sata; don’t see the connection clearly from reading the sentence. In fact the whole story and the heading do not tie!
In my view, the likes of Sampa seem to be the ones ACTUALLY working and producing tangible results for people and not just explaining theories and stuff you find in text books and Financial markets websites.
People already have been complaining that some MP’s have never been seen and are as rare as an Eclipse…..!
It’s simple things like this done over a period of time that eventually make a community a good place to live in!!
An approachable man, and someone you can talk too…. This is RARE in most Zambian politicians!!
Guys, lets not only comment when we see mistakes, but also give some encouragement, as we all know these comments are read by them!
Don’t just become serial critics.
This issue of 1.8 million Lusaka residents defecating in the ground is serious and is the next major pandemic waiting to happen at any time. Recall 60% of water supplied to homes officially is from boreholes around this same city. The govt needs to show leadership by either stopping supply of borehole water to homes or connect all homes to proper sewage system, the homes being referred to here are those in Kalundu, Kamwala South, Chilenje South, Chalala, Northmead, Kabulonga, Ibex Hill; what a shame to the city planners. Please PF show true leadership as soon than later this city will be at pains to handle the diarrhea diseases to come especially in the so called upper mwampa areas.
My friend, leadership is what we lack in Zambia. This is why we change governments hoping we can find leaders. So far 2011 was a ‘miss’ and we are changing again in 2016. We will keep searching!!
Totally unbelievable and shocking that 50 years after independence there are still some citizens in the capital city using pit latrines. Zambia proud and free on pit latrines!
