Forum for Democratic Alternatives (FDA) president Ludwig Sondashi has observed that the excessive powers vested in the Presidency have undermined the country’s democracy because they are dictatorial in nature.
Dr. Sondashi says it is because such excessive powers vested in the presidency that President Michael Sata has been able to deny the people of Zambia the opportunity to have a new constitution that reflects their aspirations.
Dr. Sondashi, who is a constitutional lawyer, has further observed that it is such same excessive powers enjoyed by successive Presidents that some of them could have engaged in corruption.
He says with chances of the country having a new constitution slowly diminishing, Zambians should demand that President Sata let go of the constitutional making process for it to proceed as scheduled.
Dr. Sondashi has however told Qfm News that being a constitutional lawyer he would have preferred that the country’s new constitution leaves the Head of State in a position where he does not engage in politics.

@Cycle Matako,@Jo,@Gen
You are all f©©ls.What Sondashi said is the truth,Sata is using dictatorial powers by using the police in unnecessary matters. Every time fighting the opposition leaders for nothing.Always talking negatives in what ever issue raised by the opposition.If RB was the same way Sata is.Would he be a president at now ?Guys use your heads.
For any democracy to be successful, checks & balance should exist. I think even ministers should be appointed from outside parliament so that MPs are not just looking to become ministers. Sondashi is right on this one. The judiciary, parliament, the press and the people are disadvantaged when one considers the almost kingly powers of the president. Accountability is non existent, MPs useless, judges feeble, press completely lost, the are masses blinded. The guy in plot 1 is a politician not a statesman(statesmen always try to do what is good for the nation as a whole not for themselves). The worst thing is excessive presidential powers in the hands of a buffoon! Zambia is slowly heading towards a path where people will unfortunately be forced to pick up arms.
before 2011 elections I told some people that this one does not care what people think and when he attains the highest office he will use all means to stay in power. He is selfish and single minded, even the chaps licking his boots now will face hot soup sooner or later. We have a person who admires not what is good in Mugabe but the worst attributes. We are headed towards a situation where someone will have to use a gun (sorry to say but the guy is stubborn and he will only understand force not grammer) This one can only be removed by fasting and prayer! Hot non stop fire prayer
Amen. Sata(n) is sure destined for hell. We don’t want a civil war in Zambia but the way this f0ol is going I don’t know.
THIS IS THE GOSPEL TRUTH!!
Zambian’s are forever dreaming of Good Governance, & always being promised such. Apart from Mwanawasa, who tried, & was the only Zambian President who I can say was Democratic & allergic to corruption, the rest have been Dictators’ some through no fault of their own, but due this outdated Draconian constitution we currently have.
Zambia will NEVER Develop, even if Sata is gone, as whoever comes in to rule will find a Constitution that allows She/ Him to use the Government & its resources to further their party’s interests & line their pockets in the process.
Any leader who tries to hoodwink Zambians’ telling us the current Constitution is good is a ” Lying Dictator” who will Steal our money for the benefit of Family & should be got rid of
