President Michael Sata is deeply concerned with the high number of road traffic accidents occurring on Zambian highways and other road links in the country.
President Sata has since urged the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA), the Zambia Police Service and other government agencies to intensify education campaigns and other interventions to reduce the rate of accidents on the roads.
In his latest facebook posting today, Mr. Sata said he strongly believed that there was need for an urgent, pragmatic and integrated approach to address the road carnages occurring across the country.
President Sata’s concerns come in the wake of 14 people that perished last week in two separate accidents in Mazabuka and Kaoma in Southern and Western provinces respectively.
Twelve people died in an accident that happened in Mazabuka in Southern Province while two others died in Kaoma in Western Province.
The Mazabuka accident happened when a Marcopolo bus carrying 72 passengers collided head on with a South African Truck.
Zambia Police Spokesperson Charity Munganga-Chanda said the Mongu accident happened when a Toyota Haice mini bus overturned after a rear tyre burst.
23 passengers sustained injuries in the Southern Province accident while seven were injured in Western province.
The Head of State reiterated the PF government’s commitment to develop infrastructure in ambitious programmes such as the Link Zambia 8,000 where huge sums of money are being spent.
He said government sympathizes with the families of the people that have perished through these road mishaps and assured that his administration was doing the very best to arrest the situation
“As government, we commiserate with the families of the people that have perished through these road mishaps and we commit to do our very best to arrest the situation,” Mr. Sata said.
ZANIS
there is too much road accidents because zambia is being government by an old man full of lies, give people their constitution bwana.
at least this time he noticed that fatal incident of diarrhoea on the road!! thanks mr presido,
Sata is not concerned. Sata doesn’t even go to and check that so called facebook page.
A concerned President will fly to where a major accident like the one’s we’ve experienced since PF assumed Power. A concerned President will call for a caucus meeting with all concerned and not hide behind facebook. The last time I checked George Chella as the one updating Sata’s facebook page.
But never heard of MP or minister in accident, I mean dying. Kambwili, Sichinga all survived damnt!
What you have said is contrary.Be fair. The subject is Road accidents on our roads.
The problem we have is that our highways are still two lanes in this era. Only UPND will the highways dual carriageway. What you expect from people with no agenda and priorities for Zambia
Ba Sata, you are spending too much time on facebook instead of showing leadership and addressing people in the public gala as your predecessors did. Why should we be reading about your concerns on facebook? How many people in the remote areas that you campaigned in even have access to computers, let alone internet. Let’s be serious about leadership. This is not what was expected of you. Friendly advice from a registered voter who will be exercising her right to vote in 2016.
Sata is never on facebook, that is Chellah boy on the move, may at time even Mumembe
Why is it that since Sata and his PF took over every bye-election is preceded by fatal traffic accidents in which numerous people perish?
food and drink. flesh and blood bwana.
Mr. President stop poking me.
Using the words ‘commiserate’ and ‘sympathise’ does not read very well in the circumstances. Lives have been lost. Its more apt, assuming its genuine, to use ‘deep sorrow’ or something to that effect. We normally commiserate with people who have lost a job, for example, or a game of sport.
Is this all he can do???? Cant he think of any other solutions sure??
I thought he was the self-appointed CEO of the road rehabilitation program? What is the progress report?
That sacrifices are not working to the advantage of the PF no matter how many are created?
Dual carriageways is the answer, can’t you see that 97% of these fatalities are head-on collisions ???
PF is on truck…only the bitterly blinded clever fools cannot see the developments going on.
Shame on you! Stop being arm chair critics and do something to better zambia for our children and our childrens children.
Your bitterness wont change nothing…
Concerned about what ? You know these are satanism sacrifices which are done. I have observed before any bye election this country experience fatal road accidents. Stop troubling Ratsa when you know what you do. God will soon catch up with you. Time will tell.
We know you.Mwine mushi natumishiba nomba. We know you busy hiding muli ba Ratsa. Stop sacrificing innocent souls but your family. You don’t know what is happening in Zambia. Church leaders please save us from these ruthless shameless leaders.
Mwe bekala calo! Umuntu teti ateke umuntu munankwe.
As someone has suggested, stop the useless roadblock they have zero effect on prevention or having people obey traffic rules being that they are stationary. Instead buy these traffic offucers cheap bikes and a lot of Corollas (2nd hand ones but still strong), paint them in police colors and have them dotted around to scare careless driver and catch them in the act.Patrols must be increased not increasing roadblocks- those things are just ATMs for corrupt police.
WHO CARES?
