Movie review: 300- Rise of an Empire

Share

300

Based on Frank Miller’s latest graphic novel Xerxes and told in the breathtaking visual style of the blockbuster “300,” this new chapter of the epic saga takes the action to a fresh battlefield-on the sea-as Greek general Themistokles (Sullivan Stapleton) attempts to unite all of Greece by leading the charge that will change the course of the war. “300: Rise of an Empire” pits Themistokles against the massive invading Persian forces led by mortal-turned-god Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro), and Artemisia (Eva Green), vengeful commander of the Persian navy

PROS

  • Great acting by the whole cast ,especially Eva Green who played the role of Artemisia .
  • Interesting story-line ,that one can easily follow even if they haven’t watched the first 300 movie .
  • intense action scenes

CONS

  • There was an unnecessary love scene that had nothing to do with the plot of the movie

FAVORITE QUOTES

Themistocles: Better we show them, we chose to die on our feet, rather than live on our knees!

  1. Xerxes: I am your king!
  2. Artemisia: Do not forget who put the crown on your childish head! I will lead all my ships against Themistokles. Sit and watch from your golden throne, and enjoy the safety I provided you.

CONCLUSION

300:Rise  of an Empire is a must watch movie . Whether you have watch the first 300 or not ,you will definitely enjoy this one . Lovers of action movies will really enjoy the excessive amounts of blood splattering in slow motion and naval battles  brimming with grisly gore. It is action packed from beginning to end and has a great story-line . The whole cast was great , but Eva Green had the stand out performance . Her character, Artemisia,  may go down as the best female villain ever .

    • I AM IN FULL AGREEMENT WITH YOUR COMMENT MUSHOTA (not that I am a fan of you). I WONDER WHY SOME OF THESE SO CALLED DEVELOPED AND CIVILISED NATION ENJOY THE IDEA OF MASS-MURDERING PEOPLE. CAN’T A FILM SELL IF THEY ARE NOT MURDERING PEOPLE IN IT?

  1. Can’t imagine wasting 90 minutes on a distorted tale of history. I’d rather check out “12 Years a slave” to recall how our souls were brutalised.

    • To claim it is distorted, means that you are almost indirectly claiming that the Persians won these world-changing battles in history. And if this is the case, you know nothing of the history, as is the case with most people on this planet today.

Go read a history book. And please remember, considering a fact that, sure, they twisted a few things, and that Miltiadis in fact led the battle of Marathon and not Themistocles, but keeping the outcome the same…

…THIS IS A HOLLYWOOD MOVIE, NOT A DOCUMENTARY.

  2. I will certainly watch this movie. I really enjoyed the first installment of 300 and can’t wait to see the sequel.
I hear Eva Green played the villain so well. I am a fan of Greek mythology.

“We choose to die on our feet than live on our knees!”- great saying. Love it

    • Greek mythology is full of darkness. Pray you dont get carried away. There is a difference in being a scholar and and a fan.
