COPPERBELT Minister Mwenya Musenge has urged Radio Stations in the province to seek police permits whenever they are having political leaders as guests on air.
Mr Musenge said in an interview yesterday that radio stations should seek security from the police when political leaders appear on radio in order to protect their equipment from being damaged by rival party cadres.
He said the political party leaders should also desist from carrying a span of cadres when appearing on radio programmes.
Last week, United Party for National Development (UPND) and Patriotic Front (PF) cadres clashed in Ndola temporarily disrupting operations at Sun FM when UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema was appearing on the station.
Mr Musenge said radio stations should always take precaution whenever they invite political leaders on radio to protect their own property and personnel .
“Radio station should inform the police so that they can be advised on how to go about it, especially where political leaders appear on radio and make statements that anger supporters of other parties. The media, especially radio stations should always liaise with police,” he said.
Mr Musenge said the community radio stations were playing an important role in informing and entertaining the nation and that Government would not want to see them close due to damage of property by unruly political party cadres.
The Minister also urged opposition leaders to seek police advice whenever they are having metings including appearing on radio stations.
He said that Copperbelt was a stronghold of the PF and that opposition leaders should always put it in mind that whenever they are in the province and make negative statements against Government on public radio.
Mr Musenge, however, condemned the behaviour of the cadres from both the ruling party and the UPND when Mr Hichilema appeared on Sun FM Radio.
dull mwenye musenge! where did you get or read that law from?? so should radio stations seek police permits when hosting PF cadres in southern provinces,,, because thats UPND stronghold?,,, and in the north western province should radio stations seek police permits when hosting PF cabres because thats MMD stronghold
WHAT! I think Mwenye is being destroyed by the gods, he has been made mad first.
If you still had some salt in you, you would have undertaken to advise your violent cadres first. Why should your cadres go and destroy property at a Radio Station if there was discipline in your party? These are the same cadres who matched against Kabimba, tomorrow it will be you they will stand against and we will ask you to get a permit and tell you that you are not popular in Zambia, Copperbelt, Lusaka, wherever!
I will not be surprised if tell us to be getting permits to talk to our spouses very soon.
How can you claim to be popular when you are intimidating others.Very soon we shall need permits to go to church and when going to our bed rooms.Where is the freedom of expression, assembly and speech i read in my civics in grade 8.Zambia has gone to the dogs as this is coming from the minister.Who told you that when somebody is against your views then you become enemies.
Can any one help me how far did musenge go in education with this low level of ignorance.
The statement from Mwenye Musenge makes sad reading indeed, ohh my GOD where is this country heading to with the likes of Musenge as Provincial Ministers. We were warned by Chamba Chishiba but we did not listen. Country men and women where is the country heading into? Radio Station to apply for permit when hosting political guest? Musenge you are one of the useless Ministers Sata talks about you fool and *****. PF u were allowed to campaign freely on radio stations and round the country by MMD government but u have failed to give opposition political parties the same amount of freedom you enjoyed in opposition. This mInister is promoting lawlessness and thugery behaviour in the copperbelt he must be arrested and appear in the hegue for attocities against the Zambian people.DICTATORSHIP IN
Zambian Watchdog has been right all this time. Yes, we have dictatorship taking root in Zambia. Zambian we need to vote correctly come 2016.
Unfortunately, the sentiments from the minister seem to be official PF position. What Musenge should concentrate on is teaching his cadres to be tolerant and accommodate divergent views. if any politician insults or incites violence, we have enough provisions in law to deal with such. can Musenge tell us, what HH said on radio that angered his cadres? Where these cadres not waiting with a premeditated plan to assault HH? It is so surprising why none of the senior PF members has expressed concern over its cadres carrying fire arms in public…
Musenge is just an i.diot ! This is what we mean when we say Sata and his bunch of retards have turned Zambia into uncivilized country.
Elizabeth Chitika said Chiluba said it in 2001 that i can’t give the Presidency to Sata; “teti asunge abantu, kuntu abapatanya” and here we are.
I am very upset that innocent citizens are being harassed just for belonging to a different party. Chili ndwii mu state house and very primitive as usual. wake up and start leading, iwe chi Sata. Say something about the violence. Also there is a provision for resigning in your contract in case you are not aware.
@Elizabeth.
For sure Sata is dividing us.
But I ve learnt ONE THING of the GOD I serve. He gives wht His Children cries for so tht they learn. Chikdren of Isreal asked fro a King and He gave thm Saul but DAVID WAS on the way to bring glory.
Soon things will b ok.
Viva HH Viva Zambia.
When MC Sata was in opposition he was all over this nation and he was tolerated to do his campaigns without getting a police permit or being intimidated for him to be on any radio station, but what has changed today Mr Musenge you are really proving your usefulness in the PF govt.
what a f00lish proposal
This is so becoming undemocratic and an infringement of freedom of expression. The biggest problem we have is the cadres who are acting with the blessing of the executive and the police. Mwenya should be issuing warnings and threats to the cadres who disrupt radio meetings. It is high time we banned cadre-ism and the wearing of political regalia altogether! Indeed the country has gone the big dögs!
This country has really gone to the dogs. how can a minister utter such nonsense and then in the end try to advice rival camps? thats ridiculus of him! he is just too careles with his mouth no wonder Sata called him a fool and useless publicly three times. firstly he should understand that it was PF that followed UPND an not otherwise. Now he puts the blame on both. SHAME on u and u re useless indeed!! God warned us thru Chanda Chimba but we did not listen so we just have to get used to such because i see us not going for the polls in 2016 coz DICTATORSHIP would have swallowed our democracy. Opposition leader are likely to be slaped with treason to bar them from participating in 2016. People like Kabimba can do any thing to serve their interests.Only if we can act now will we save our…
Musenge you missing the point… the problem is PF
Did Sata ever get police permission to appear on radio when he was in opposition?
Was Sata ever victimized by cadres from other political partys?
The problem has nothing to do with opposition leaders and radio stations, the problem is with Sata and PF. PF seems to have instructed cadres to be violent towards the opposition
This is the most useless 1diot Sata has as minister! Is that how he wants to translate the Public Order Act? To hell with stone age proposals. Zambia is a democracy and every citizen has the right to express themselves without fear of the PF thugs.
What permit is required? Or does he mean they should inform the police so that the police are alert to possibilities of violence from this violent ruling party? How come this announcement comes immediately after Al Bashir bans opposition parties from holding political meetings? He is actually just confirming that the PF is indeed a terrorist organisation linked Sudan.
Why even inform the police that so compromised, I hear the police officers were there watching these Paya Farms beating UPND sympathisers.
You mean from PF cadres? But how do PF police cadres protect the opposition from fellow PF cadres?
useless
Mwenya Musenge,so are telling me that when I go to drink at your Chillers’s Corner (Club Zero) night club I should inform Riverside police station that I need security to protect me from your unruly cadres. When you host musicians there do you inform police to provide security,if so why did you provide security when Mampi and Mark2 performed that led to the patrons almost rioting. Mwenya Musenga you are an adventist you should speak the truth, quit politics and stop selling or dealing in alcohol as its against biblical principles.
The Minsters statement about the media is redundant. Radio stations don’t need to seek permission to host anybody because it’s a public media and doing so is unprofessional.
The media is an established institution and it would be wise for the Minister to show some professionalism in his work.
It is reliably proven that as you gain weight something happens to your brains. If that minister could tone down his weight he might just realize how stu.pid he is.
This is total madness. Sadly this is the level of PF leadership – very shallow and dull. Let Musenge and his kind confine their warped minds within PF.
Mwenye Musenge, you are another stupid, ***** and useless deputy minister. Which law are you quoting that says radio stations should be getting police permits when hosting polital party leaders? Thats why zambia cannot develop coz of having people like u in leadership positions. U r as useless as your appointing authority.
