INSPECTOR General (IG) of Police Stella Libongani has warned political parties to desist from proposing violence through statements and public gathering.
Ms Libongani said all political players were expected to abide by the law by refraining from any conduct that instigates violence especially among their counterparts.
She said in Kitwe yesterday that political parties should be mindful of their conducts during public functions and how to relate with one another.
“We have had incidences where political parties are proposing violence through statements made but they should know that we have police in place and we want all political parties to feel protected by the institution,” she said.
Ms Libongani said political parties should refrain from taking the law in own hands because the police would not tolerate that.
She said as much as politicians had the right to freedom of expression and gathering, they should not exercise that at the expense of other citizens who also deserved the same rights.
And Ms Libongani said police reinforcement had been deployed to Kasumbalesa to beef up security around the border post area following the last Saturday shooting of a couple by suspected soldiers from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
“We have two groups of officers in Kasumbalesa. The mobile unit group and a police station and following that shooting, we have reinforced the mobile unit,” Ms Libongani said.
On earlier remarks that police intended to establish a permanent platoon at Kasumbalesa, she said there was already a permanent platoon in the area and the only thing needed was to reinforce.
Ms Libongani said the reinforcement was made two days ago but was not in position to give the number of officers deployed to the area.
Meanwhile, Ms Libongani said the problem of police infrastructure such as accommodation and new stations round the country was receiving positive attention.
She said Government was aware of accommodation challenges and that very soon, the Ministry of Home Affairs would commence the construction of 20, 000 housing units for various security wings including police.
Ms Libongani said similarly, the police command had earmarked some areas of high economic activities including new districts for construction of new police stations.
The inspector general who was in Kitwe for an on-going familiarization tour of districts was accompanied by Copperbelt police commissioner Joyce Kasosa and a number of senior officers from Lusaka Headquarters.
This is the most uzilesi IG of police Zambia has ever had. prepare to face court charges for being a PF cadre after 2016 for tolarating PF violence. u and your boss are unfit to hold the offices you are occupying.
It is mind boggling to imagine the violence on HH by PF cadres happened when the IG was touring the Copperbelt. This is further testimony that the Police in Zambia has lost their integrity and credibilty
You are the most useless and stupid police IG Zambia has ever seen.
Ebwafya bwa ncito shakubosha. Mayo bombeleni ichalo. Mulekwatako insoni mulifimo fimo ifyakulanda landa.
God help u I we Stella. 2016 is coming, Ala ukamwenako!
What warning should an IG sound when evidence is before her of PF cadres showing off with all sort of weapons including pangas, stones, pistols and others. What is wrong with you madam Libongani. Wait till you are asked to account for your acts. For it is clear you are on the side of PF thugs.
She is a fool this woman
“Familiarisation tour!” Will this country ever be more serious? Has she run out of right things to do when the whole service has become more indisciplined than a class of grade pupils? Zambia is going down…..
What I think she meant is that having party meetings IS proposing violence to PF cadres and their toothless counterparts in uniform. So the Police will not tolerate any political party that incites PF cadres to beat them up.
STELLA LIBONGANI You are a very stupid en useless IG i have ever seen in the history of our country. You will go down in history as a toothless and unprofessional IG Zambia has ever had. One wonders whose interest you are serving. Instead of arresting the PF thugs who almost assassinated HH you busy generalizing things. Please just step down coz you have failed the zambian people.
IG means stands for Ignorant Girl. Is that what she is?
When the useless PF cadres attack innocent people, Lobongani threatens the opposition. When the same stupid cadres kill each other out of greed, you arrest the opposition. There are so many uniformed street kids begging from motorists; why not send them to arrest the foolish sons of b1tches (PF cadres)? Have you started taking orders from id.iots like Sturdy Mwale?
This lady is completely lost in her job. She is clueless that her job entails maintenance of law and order in the country. Opposition parties are not ‘permitted’ to have rallies, on radio stations they are phyiscally followed to be harmed. If they book a hotel to have a conference it is later cancelled. Stella, what should opposition do pela? And you are called IG, what a joke!
Stella what a shame is this what people do to fill their bellies. You have destroyed your future by accepting a job from a clueless President who does not allow you to work professionally. If I were you I would just shut up and not make myself look more stupid even by drunkards who can tell that your Auntie who put you in that position by shagging Sata is giving you instructions. Shamuna bane Shame
It seems like Zambia is now practicing political instability. We have reached the equilibrium state of affairs. There 50% chances of war or no war since now one part sounds to fool around with violence which the government has not seen bad for such acts. Law can be bend when one is pushed into a tight corner that he or she can not breath well and to fear suffocation, definitely one retaliates to the opponent.
These guy one day it shall cost them. We are not animal mind you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
