The Lusaka High Court has sentenced Clifford Dimba, commonly known as General Kanene to 18 years with hard labour for defiling an underage girl.
In his judgment, Lusaka High Court Judge, Chalwe Muchenga said the sentencing is meant to deter would be offenders because the scourge is escalating.
This was in a matter in which the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court convicted Kanene for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old schoolgirl contrary to the Laws of Zambia.
On February 4, 2014, Lusaka magistrate Rodgers Kaoma convicted Kanene after finding him guilty of defilement and committed him to the High Court for sentencing.
It was alleged that Kanene on unknown dates but between January 31 and February 1, 2012 in Lusaka had unlawful carnal knowledge of a girl under the age of 16 but he had denied committing the offence.
Oh ! 18 years is such a long time.I feel sorry for the brother.How a few minutes of enjoyment in an underage girls entertainment system can change somebody`s life forever.This is a lesson to all of us men, it is important to use our brains to think and i mean the big brain in the head not the little brain in the pants.This habit of akapya walya and akana kangwena kakulila kwitete must stop.

Politicians are sentenced to not more than 5 years whatever the crimes. Questionable justice. How fair and just is such justice. The girl’s age was only determined by looking not ADM. 14 years then 18 years with hard labour? Gen K’s case was winnable, any he can appeal against that judgment and the stay of the sentence, if only

Mwembeshi! It is really sad indeed how are fellows think and analyze issues. Children should be left to be children and be protected not defiling and raping them. Besides these cases are just too much in our communities and we must enforce stiff punishment to deter the culprits and protect the children. 14 Billion can be paid back but the harm done to the girl will never be erased!

Hey high courts, 18 yrs? I do agree that offenders of crime must be punished but is 18yrs the best,we still have politians among us who in the past have raped our treasury but running free as we speak, I guess those with fat wallets are able to buy the judiciary.

But GK’s case still has some grey areas…. what was the girl’s EXACT age when the crime was committed…??…..These days its very deceiving/misleading to determine the age of these girls just by looking or circumstantial……

Good judgement, however a lot of the same goes on everywhere, these days morals have gone to the dogs with girls losing their virginity as young as 13 on average, not only in Zambia but throughout Africa. In the rural areas girls are married at 14 to 15, which is unacceptable yet it continues and very few arrests are made because it is a so called traditional marriage, yet the “long arm” of the law is ready to arrest cannabis growers and leave child defilers alone…let the law enforcement wings get their priorities right.

The women lobby is so powerful that a sentence short of what GK received would have seen the presiding judge/officer out of a job, probably. It took 2 to tango. I hope the girl has a conscience too. If you asked the women “matrons” of Lusaka if the girl was ready, they would probably say yes. We see them very active in the lucrative business of initiating small girls into “womanhood” all over. Any girl who goes through that initiation will gladly consent to advances by a man if they like him. Law is blind on such things. It is a question of whether one is caught. The same law has no ears and eyes to hear and see criminals at heart such as Gen. Kudos, Haleisa Haleisa, Kamba et al who have publicly made incriminating statements. What a hypocritical society!!!

18 years is pretty harsh considering there is no precedent for this! But i guess if the lesson has to be taught this would be a good one. i love the general’s music, but being a father of two young girls, he would be lucky to get away with his life if he defiled my child. I only hope, in the name of justice, that the evidence was conclusive and not just based on hearsay. The court is within its right to set a maximum term such as this as a deterrent in a place where it is a sub culture for old men with families to sleep with minors and young women. But this must be an ongoing thing and not just use Kanene as an example and then let our richer more prominent defilers WALK! Sorry GK, we will miss you, but silly thing to do.
