FORMER Information and Broadcasting Services minister, Newstead Zimba has told the court that he is a Christian who does not believe in divorce because experiences encountered by him after previous divorces have taught him lessons.

Mr Zimba, however, told the court when he was asked by his former wife, Naomi Mbewe’s lawyer as to what happened with his first two marriages if he did not believe in divorce that he divorced the first wife and abandoned the second one for Naomi.

This is in a matter where Naomi has appealed against the Lusaka local court’s decision to grant Mr Zimba a house on Woodlands’ Nalikwanda road after the divorce last year.

Ms Mbewe contends that she equally contributed to the purchase of the house while in marriage as such, she should also benefit from it.

Mr Zimba who is a former diplomat has also appealed against the local court’s decision to give Naomi one of the two vehicles claiming the vehicles were his.

During continued trial before Lusaka resident magistrate, Ireen Wushimanga yesterday, Mr Zimba urged the court to throw out Naomi’s request saying he wholly bought the house on his own.

“When I was in Foreign Service, I was getting a lot of money, K38 million per month at some point. I was already minister when I married her so I had money” he said.

Mr Zimba said the money which Ms Mbewe was making from her Salon and other business was a hand to mouth.

He said that he allowed Ms Mbewe to co- hold the title of the house but that did not mean that she had contributed to its purchase and cannot claim ownership.

Meanwhile, Ms Mbewe’s lawyers yesterday asked the court to intervene over Mr Zimba’s decision to refuse to release Ms Mbewe’s personal property such as under wear, clothes and the house.

Ms Wushimanga has since advised Ms Mbewe to put in a formal application to the court so that the matter could be attended to.

Mr Zimba confirmed to the court that there were several personal things belonging to Ms Mbewe at his house but that he was not one who asked her to leave the matrimonial home.

  1. Naomi, you can deal with Newstead and all that property can be yours. Let me know if you need help, don’t waste your time going to court.

    • She needs to go back to take care of the husband. And Newstead Zimba need not let that body go away from him..

    • The statement by Newstead that he made 38 Million Kwacha as minister in MMD should alarm all of you. This is one of the reasons Zambia has failed to develop. Ministers and other politicians are eating too much at the expense of poor taxpayers at the bottom of the food chain. I PF has continued with the same trend. And have you observed that this ka so called Nubian Fimo fimo is always jealous of other women who are good looking and successful. She is also a Sata(N) lover and therefore useless!!!

  2. Insala ba naom yabanyokola, mama concetrate on yo saloon and that pre school which u were given by the court.you want to grab everything from him be fair banaom naimwe.

    • iwe leka bamupwishe former minister.i don’t feel soory for newstead…these ministers balisamwa sana in the chiluba era…they divorced their wives when they became ministers….a damn good lesson. His wife and children really suffered. NOW ITS REAPING WHAT HE SOWED…AND FINALLY NGA BAMUPWA, HE IS GOING TO MEET HIS MAKER NAKED AS HE CAME….enjoy the ride newstead!!!!!

  3. And I have 4 houses on rent, and I consider myself poor & struggling. So much for a former minister and diplomat…. !!

  4. They say”when the dick is hard the brain is soft”
Obviously the old fool never thought of the ramifications of “adding her name to the title”.
    Zimba deserves this.

  5. Newstead deserves this. How can he divorce 3 times in his life? Does it mean that all the women he has had are wrong? No! He is the wrong person/ Shame on this useless Tumbuka of Lundazi. This is what happend when you fail to live by the 10 commandments- You may divorce only if your partner is unfaithful—-and when he or she dies.

    • Better yet, when you divorce, just don’t remarry. I don’t understand what it is with guys and remarrying…

  6. “Zimba nalikwebele ati ntapila amenshi wakana !” Ha ha ha couldn’t help singing that song from childhood that we used to sing whenever somebody found him or herself on the receiving end of something. This is what an insatiable appetite for young lasses can do.Mr Zimba sir they say Karma is a bi*c*.Remember how you neglected your ex-wife and children after young Naomi`s cleavage and figure clouded your judgement.I personally could care less if you lost everything.Hope this episode will bring you some wisdom.

Even if the experience has made him more wise what will he do with the wisdom.
They say “wisdom is the comb that life gives you when you no longer have hair.”

  7. “I was getting alot of money” one would be mistaken for thinking he was running his own business yet he was syiphoning taxpayer’s money. I DON’T see him winning this case you should opted to sort this outside court.

Exactly my point. That is the calibre of leaders we have.Compared to the present ones it is like they are getting worse.Even the appointing authrity calls them useless.

  8. This is why most men are not building houses and owning property because we gat so many gold diggers all over the show. This women is a killer. She can kill you over material things. Gentlemen, you need to be careful over these women.

    • These days we have men digging gold. So both men and women must be careful BUT how careful is careful???? Lord help us!

  9. In a case of divorce and property sharing is disputed then the court can make a very fair ruling. “Property acquired when the marriage contract is valid then both spouses are deemed to have contributed equally towards the acquisition of that property regardless of the source of funding”. In this case both parties have a 50% interest to the said property. The only fair ruling is to dispose of the property at the current market value and share the proceedings on 50% basis. or whoever is in a position can out purchase the other 50% according to the current market value.

  10. Bashi Lameck, I hope the experience has made you wiser and you will now make a very good advisor to those who may want to learn from you….

  11. If love existed between the two each one would have known what they owned. Maybe marriages should now be accompanied with signed declarations that im not for your property but marriage so that when things end each goes their way with their property
